Comedy Central is doing another round, their 10th season in fact, of their short form digital stand-up series, Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring in LA. As the Satellite has sadly closed its doors awhile ago, CC will be going to another hip venue in LA on Tues. Mar. 1st, the even more kitschy Lodge Room in Highland Park (the place where you can catch Paul F. Tompkins on a somewhat regular basis these days).

Also, of course, they have rows upon rows upon rows of great handpicked comedians that, if you’re reading this, you’ve might have come to know and love by seeing them making the rounds in LA, NYC, and elsewhere. This gorgeous line-up will include (over 3 shows):

6PM: Brittany Schmitt, Mike Mulloy, Jes Tom, Jamel Johnson, Brandon Wardell & Chloe Radcliffe

8PM: Daniel Weingarten, Giulia Rozzi, Niles Abston, Felonius Munk, Mo Welch & Chloe Hillard

10PM: Danielle Perez, Joey Avery, Ali Macofsky, Sean Grant, Katrina Davis & Caleb Hearon

The show is FREE (almost nothing is free at the Lodge Room, FYI) with RSVP to 21+ with proof of vaccination. Go get your tickets right this second at theblacklistnyc.com/ccsufla.

Pick of the Day: Wowee Flower Hour with David Gborie and Giulia Rozzi (Live-stream) Wednesdays

News

We’re in the thick of January, and, from the looks of it, still in the thick of the Omicron wave of COVID-19. That means that there’s still very little live comedy, comparatively, to go to right at this moment.

You ought to, dare we say, tune into a new weekly live-stream with a duo comprised of two superb comedians, David Gborie and Giulia Rozzi? Truly, Gborie and Rozzi could talk about almost anything (Gborie has more than proven this on All Fantasy Everything and watch Rozzi’s stand-up for proof on her end) and make thoroughly funny and engaging.

Their cannabis-centric comedy live-stream variety hour called the Wowee Flower Hour will not only have them humorously showing the benefits of weed can add to your daily life, but they’ll have such fantastic guests as Open Mike Eagle and The Dank Duchess.

Get a dank taste of what’s to come, presented by the cannabis focused community, Wowee, here.

You can catch the Wowee Flower Hour LIVE on Wednesdays at 1PM PT/4PM ET on Wowee’s YouTube and Twitch.

Pick of the Day: I Never Get to Wear This (in LA) 11/20

If you’re the sort of person that wishes your comedy shows has a lot more style and flair to them and not just any old mix of denim, leather, hoodies, and whatever t-shirts are clean, there might be a show now just for you.

I Never Get To Wear This is a carefully curated live comedy show that not only picks the line-up for how great their comedic stylings are, but is also incredibly discerning about which comedians can turn a look. Of course, a show like this has a theme for the performers to inspire an iconic ensemble.

This month will be “Thanksgiving finery” and the line-up of Giulia Rozzi, The Puterbaugh Sisters, Felicia Folkes, Clint Coley, and Sammy Mowrey will undoubtedly put together the best Thanksgiving Day parade of jokes accented by the perfect set of accessories.

This edition of I Never Get To Wear This is set for Sat. Nov. 20th at 8PM PT at Third Wheel Studios. Tickets are $10-$20 (sliding scale) and you really ought to get tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Boast Rattle 5/9

Saying things that are nice to other people is one of the most valuable things you can do in times like these. In fact, even a competition of how nice one comedian can boast about someone better than another comedian that they’re going to head-to-head with, boast for boast, can still help in spreading positive vibes during these dire times.

Thus, it’s the perfect time for Kyle Ayers‘ terrific compliment contest Boast Rattle that has run for years and will now get to run once again on Twitch. Attempting to out-compliment to each other will be an amazing line-up that really ought to make a barnburner of niceness including: Josh Gondelman, Sara Schaefer, Dave Ross, Giulia Rozzi, and Will Miles.

This latest edition of Boast Rattle will take place this Saturday, May 9th at 6PM PT/9PM ET on Kyle’s Twitch here.

Boast Rattle, a Compliment Contest, is back! @BoastRattle!

This Saturday, May 9, at 9p EST / 6p PST! Comedians competitively compliment. Niceroasting.

Giulia Rozzi so expertly gets away so much innuendo on her latest late night set on Conan and it really should be commended. In fact, she might just have our favorite joke about baby wipes (that is also probably one of the dirtier ones we’ve ever heard).

So, go please enjoy her set here.

Well, stand-up shows doesn’t get much cooler than this.

In a loft downtown with baked goods and vintage threads for you to get obsessed with, a fantastic pairing of Giulia Rozzi and Jenny Zigrino will host a line-up of our favorites of in the scene, Byer, Garcia, Jones, and Cooperman, for what might be the most stylish stand-up show, Well-Dressed Comedy, in LA in recent memory.

So, make a note for Wed. Jun. 12th to have at least $5 if not more for treats and a cool new outfit.

A unifying bond of comedians is the painful, cringeworthy start that they all had. Giulia Rozzi’s show First Set gathers comedians that are very funny and revisits those beginnings as well as contrasts it with honed, well-crafted comedy that they currently do. It’s like Mortified, but specifically for stand-up.

Baron Vaughn, Ramon Rivas, Melissa McQueen, and Jade Catta-Preta will be showcasing their comedy “then vs. now” next Monday at UCB Sunset.

Tickets are $5 and you can (and should) get them here.

Jenny Zigrino and Jen Saunderson Made a Cooking Show Actually Inspired by Jokes with “The Filling Is Mutual”

If you’re a fan of any cooking show where chefs all have to use a weird ingredient, you’ll dig IFC web series The Filling Is Mutual.

Hosts Jenny Zigrino and Jen Saunderson pick out a single joke from their comedian guests’ acts and then dream up a dish based on said joke. Sometimes, it’s delicious and sometimes, it really embodies the joke as much as a recipe can.

In any case, you should watch The Filling Is Mutual and maybe get hungry for ‘dicks in a komono’ or ‘white devil eggs’.

Seeso is wasting no time in getting the second season of live comedy showcase series Night Train with Wyatt Cenac going. The renewal announcement was made today along with the line-ups feature much of the best in NYC and around the country. The tapings are all set up all around Valentine’s Day.

What makes us most excited about this new batch of Night Train is plenty more opportunity for Wyatt to spit the fire that he did with his immediate-post-election album, One Angry Night in November (you can still get it for free here).

You can get tickets, from which the proceeds will go to charity, here.

Giulia Rozzi has just released what might be a perfect comedy album heading into Valentine’s Day this year, whether you’re a fan of the day or not. True Love follows Giulia in her loves lost and her own ordeals with relationships in these overly modern times. Though self-deprecating, Giulia has a refreshingly upbeat energy throughout the hour.

Hear for yourself in this preview over at The AV Club

True Love is now available off of Comedy Records on iTunes, Google Play, and Spotify.

Giulia Rozzi tells the story of the latter on the latest installment of This Is Not Happening with Ari Shaffir.

Giulia Rozzi and Brooke Van Poppelen Have Made a Web Series Where Couples Break Up With Other Couples

With all this talk of love in the air as this is the eve of Valentine’s Day, there is, of course, talk of love lost, break-ups, etc. With the talk of break-ups in that smaller fraction in the air, there’s an even smaller subset people that have broken up, though not from each other.

Instead, they’re in a couple that breaks up from another couple.

That’s the idea behind Giulia Rozzi and Brooke Van Poppelen’s new web series Seeing Other People where Giulia and Brooke, each in their own happy couple with Tommy Pope and Patrick Hosmer, break-up with each other.

Give the first episode a watch here.

1) The Big Trouble in Little Tokyo Open Mic @ Señor Fish thanks everyone for coming out and making it a bigger room.  Also, thanks to “cheeseburger cookies” that were raffled off tasting like normal vanilla flavored/chocolate filled cookies.  Come next Tues. Nov. 23rd for the mayhem/fun and another random Japanese food item. Sign up 6:30PM. Starts 7PM. 422 E. 1st St. in Little Tokyo.

2) Stripped Stories @ UCB Theatre gave an increasingly rare experience amongst live comedy shows where performers actually talk about themselves as honestly as they possibly can.  So much painful/endearing humor can be drawn from the horrible/amazing things that happen in life and Stripped Stories showed, beyond a shadow of doubt, how great that can be.  Though the name of the show might lead you to believe it’s just a bunch of vulgar sex stories, I believe that “stripped” is in reference into how every performer on the show strips their normal stage persona and become vulnerable and hilarious in a way that I never expected.  In from NYC, Giulia Rozzi and Margot Leitman stopped here in LA with their amazing show at the UCB Theatre and hosted/shared some sensational and hysterical stories with Michelle Buteau, Tony Sam, and a few musical confessions from Wendy Ho.  Stripped Stories tours nationwide and check back at the Comedy Bureau for the details for the next show.

3) OK, we’ve talked about cloning and I’m pretty sure traveling through time to get to COMEDY CRAWL in its entirety.  Well, you’re going to have to BOTH for tonight’s COMEDY CRAWL: Start off with The Frolic Show! @ Barbarella Bar 8PM FREE, then travel back in time to The Laughing Skull Showcase @ Irvine Improv 8PM $15/2 item min., make a clone, send it to “If This Doesn’t Work Out I’m Moving Home” A Variety Hour @ Harlem Place Cafe 8PM FREE, then have the clone go back in time to Comedy on the Rocks @ Red Rock Eatery & Lounge 8PM FREE, then travel to the future, or present, to Meltdown @ Meltdown Comics 8:30PM $8, then meet up with your clone at Biscuits and Gravy @ Hollywood Improv Lab 8:30PM $5, make another clone and send it to Silver Mullet @ The Hideout 8:30PM FREE, then send the first clone to Punk House @ Westside Comedy Theatre 9PM $8, and go ahead and teleport to Comedy is Dead @ Hollywood Forever Cemetery 9PM $20, then take yourself to Beer in the Shower @ Whitehorse Cocktail Lounge Inn 10PM FREE, and then gather everyone at Anna Lee Lawson Comedy Hour @ The Next Stage Theatre 11PM $5, then kill the clones and destroy the time machines because they turned out to be your doppelgangers bent on making 2010 the new 2012.

4) OPEN MIC RUN: THE BASEMENT 149 Linden Ave., Long Beach, CA/6:30PM, THE SPOT CAFE 4455 Overland Ave., Culver City, CA/Sign-up (lottery) 7PM, LIBRARY A COFFEE HOUSE 3418 E. Sunset Blvd. (walk up Martel past Big Mama’s and Papa’s)/5PM to 11PM/$5/can go up multiple times.

5) Holy Fuck! The Comedy Bureau “Tips Its Hat” to Dave Ross. “@davetotheross ask not what your country can do for you… ask China. they have money.”  Follow him on Twitter here. Great guy/comedian/obsessed with the F word Dave Ross also his year anniversary of his amazing show Holy Fuck! next Tues., Nov. 23rd, 9PM @ Downtown Independent Theatre, which is something not to be missed.

6) The Comedy Bureau will be in at a few open mics, a comedy competition doing only 3 min., and wondering what has become of the comedy scene in Long Beach tonight. Hear all about it as I’ll/we’ll be LIVE TWEETING the whole time here.

7) Donate and I’ll temporarily lift my belief that karma doesn’t exist AND something good will happen to you.  Test that theory here.

8) Tony Parker/Eva Longoria divorce jokes vs. more Prop. 19 failing jokes.  I’m wondering which of the two I’ll hear more tonight and why I’d rather hear more 9/11 jokes.

1) Performing at Keep it Clean Comedy @ 1739 Public House was one of the best times I’ve ever had doing stand-up.  With a crowd intent on listening (minus one of the supporting actors from Eastbound and Down that was wasted in the back of the bar), a perfectly darkened room with a spotlight that’s actually not blinding, and Matt Braunger absolutely “killing” it before I have to close the show, I/The Comedy Bureau actually had fun, as amazing hostess JC Coccoli suggested I do.  As people already like coming down to 1739 Public House for the 64+ beers on tap/that hip Los Feliz atmosphere, the audience is surprisingly receptive to comedy as they were last night with the great line-up of Margie Kment (French Toast), Jono Zalay, Giulia Rozzi (Kimmel), April Richardson (Chelsea Lately), Matt Braunger (Letterman), and myself/Jake Kroeger/Bureau Director of the Comedy Bureau.  Also, if everything else I just mentioned wasn’t enough of an incentive, this show is completely FREE and thus you should come to an edition of Keep It Clean Comedy.  Keep It Clean Comedy: Every Monday at 1739 Public House (1739 N. Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz). Free.

2) It’s a Little Big COMEDY CRAWL tonight with a light spread of some pretty BIG, fantastic shows.  Oxymorons aside, start off with Shits & Giggles @ Club 8572/The Palms 7:30PM $10, then Laughing Skull Comedy Festival Showcase @ Hollywood Improv 8PM/10PM $10/2 item min., then Matty Ballgame’s Laugh Lounge: Writers of Conan Edition @ Red Rock Eatery & Lounge 8:15PM FREE, then Comedy Death Ray @ UCB Theatre 8:30PM $5 (stand-by only), and finish with Stripped Stories @ UCB Theatre 11PM $5

4) Today the Comedy Bureau “Tips Its Hat” to Josh Haness and also wishes a damn fine birthday. RT @fuzzyjosh This month is National Spousal Abuse/Rape Awareness Month. It is being referred to as “No means NO!vember”. Follow him on Twitter here.  Don’t miss his weekly show at Bar Lubitsch, “The Josh and Josh Show” on Thursdays at 8PM.

5) I know I said it already, but BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE TOKYO OPEN MIC is tonight and you need to be there to witness a whirlwind of comedy, cheap fish tacos, cheap beer, and raffles a plenty.  Señor Fish, 422 E. 1st St. in Little Tokyo/Downtown. Sign up 6:30PM/Starts 7PM.  LET’S WREAK SOME HAVOC without breaking anything.

6) The Comedy Bureau’s reach just got a little longer.  In a good way.  We’re on the national comedy forum “A Special Thing” now, which will just lead you back to here, again, in a good way.

7) Comedy adventures with the Comedy Bureau every night LIVE TWEETED here.  Follow as I go anywhere from comedy purgatory to comedy hell (surprisingly large area in LA) to normalcy.  Again, right here.

8) “Donate to the Comedy Bureau.  This is actually a good cause.” -a good person.  Listen to this person and donate here.
