Pick of the Day: Josh Sharp’s New Thing (in NYC)

June 21, 2024
News
brooklyn, josh sharp, littlefield, nyc comedy, stand up comedy

Leave it one of the stars and minds behind the groundbreaking Dicks: The Musical to try something so ridiculous ambitious as having hundreds and hundreds of slides accompany brand new stand-up material.

Come Thursday, July 25th, Josh Sharp will attempt to have a 1000 cues memorized as there will be at least that many slides in a presentation coinciding with his new hour of stand-up. May some grace smile on the tech person in tech booth that evening and that Sharp revel in this pretty absurd (albeit very funny) challenge.

Josh Sharp’s New Thing is set for 8PM that Thurs. 7/25 at littlefield. Tickets are $18.67 a pop and you can (and should) go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Drunk Bollywood (in NYC) 4/26

March 19, 2024
News
bollywood, brooklyn, drunk bollywood live, littlefield, nyc comedy

Sure, you’ve seen Drunk History and multiple iterations of things being recounted or reread or re-enacted while inebriated, but it’s pretty new territory to give that treatment to the multiplex cinema of India, better known as Bollywood.

Drunk Bollywood Live aims to do just that with a live staged reading of a celebrated Bollywood production, but done with, as one might have guessed, a drunk cast. For this latest edition of Drunk Bollywood Live, they’re tackling big budget action hit Main Hoon Na! starring one of Bollywood’s biggest action stars Shah Rukh Khan.

Even if you’re not well versed in India cinema, we have a hard time imagining this wouldn’t be one hell of a good time. This next Drunk Bollywood Live is set for Fri. Apr. 26th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $31 and you best go get them here.

Pick of the Day: An Untitled Evening with Ikechukwu Ufomadu (in NYC) 10/1

September 13, 2023
News
ikechukwu ufomadu, littlefield, nyc comedy

When we use the adjectives “innovative” and “sensational”, we don’t want to ever use them lightly as many a press release has overused such words to boost up whatever comedian they’re talking about. That said, we’d like to use those two modifiers and pair them with “absurd” and “ornate” when describing the comedy of Ikechukwu Ufomadu, a strange, but very true gem of NYC comedy.

Ufomadu subverts much of the traditional trappings of stand-up, but does so with such a refined execution that there is a satisfying otherworldly-ness of his performances, especially if you’re a fan of Emo Philips or Andy Kaufman. That’s why you shouldn’t really miss out on him presenting An Untitled Evening with Ikechukwu Ufomadu at Littlefield in Brooklyn come Sun. Oct. 1st 8PM. He and Eudora Peterson, Pat Burtscher, and Edy Modica will bring you a night of comedy that you will very likely never forget (yet another saying that we don’t want to use lightly).

Tickets are only $15.54 and you can and should go get them right now right here.

Pick of the Day: Return of Butterboy (in NYC) Starting 9/4

August 28, 2023
News
brooklyn, butterboy, littlefield, nyc comedy, stand up comedy

School is back in session and, thankfully, so is the Monday night comedy institution that is Butterboy @ Littlefield. Jo Firestone, Maeve Higgins, and Donwill took a bit of Summer break (because can adults do that too/Edinburgh Fringe usually sees a lot of LA & NYC go to Scotland for a month).

So, now you can find your way to Gowanus to Brooklyn staple, Littlefield at 8PM sharp for one of the most surefire ways to make Monday feel not like a Monday (with NYC and beyond’s best stand-up comedians). Per usual, tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door and Jo, Maeve, and Donwill will greet all of those coming back with them on Mon. Sept. 4th.

Oh yeah, their first line-up is a bunch of irrefutable NYC favorites including Napoleon Emill, Caitlin Cook, Petey DeAbreu, and Cansu Karabiyik.

As always get tix, more info, etc. at butterboycomedy.com.

Pick of the Day: Babe Motel Pays Their Dues (in NYC) 9/13

August 10, 2023
News
babe motel, brooklyn, littlefield, nyc comedy, sketch comedy

We’ve been lucky in LA to have the likes of silly, yet irrepressibly clever of Babe Motel going up all around town on a regular basis. Haley Stiel, Avery Girion, and Kel Cripe have faithfully brought their rambunctious spirit on stage time and again for a couple years now, but such spirit should be shared with more folks.

With that in mind, they’re returning to NYC to do a “solo trio show”, which could mean any number of things, but all of them pretty damn fun (even if the show is called Babe Motel Pays Their Dues). Also, an amuse bouche of comedy from Hayden Johnson and Richard Perez will be served first for this special NYC Babe Motel show.

Babe Motel Pays Their Dues is set for Wed. Sept. 13th at 8PM. Tickets are $15.54 and we highly suggest getting them here.

Pick of the Day: Don’t Break (in NYC) 7/11

June 15, 2023
News
brooklyn, comedy game show, danny catlow, david brown, don't break, littlefield, nyc comedy

David Brown and Danny Catlow‘s Squid-Game-ish comedy game show, DON’T BREAK!, wreaked its havoc in LA and is now coming to NYC to put the mettle of comedians to the ultimate test. The very best of the NYC scene will see how far they can go without laughing even one iota.

For this special NYC edition of DON’T BREAK, the likes of Sarah Squirm, Edy Modica, Ike Ufomadu, Rachel Kaly, Nathan Min, Molly Kearney, and William Banks will competitively push each other buttons until there is one stone-faced player left. Oh, it should be noted that the audience is completely free to laugh (and will since comedy doesn’t get much more absurd than this).

Set a reminder for Tues. Jul. 11th at 7PM at Littlefield for this NYC DON’T BREAK! and go get your tickets here at $15.54 before they sell out.

Pick of the Day: Why Would You Ask Me That? with Martin Urbano (in NYC) 5/31

May 1, 2023
News
brooklyn, game show, littlefield, martin urbano, nyc comedy

Throughout quarantine, one Martin Urbano found that he had a knack for hosting offbeat, darkly comedic game shows. Who Wants $2.69? was born out of a need to do comedy virtually, but that was something outside of stand-up, Urbano’s usual bread and butter. The perfectly named game show found quite the fan base through streaming weekly on Chris Gethard’s virtual comedy community Planet Scum and even had some live shows a couple of years ago.

Urbano has gotten back into the thick of stand-up since everything has reopened, but that doesn’t mean he’s giving up his impeccable skills as a game show host with a cheeky title. He is doing yet another game show with ironically “problematic trivia” that has a grand prize of $69 called Why Would You Ask Me That? with Martin Urbano. It should be a rollicking night of awkward answers from NYC comedy’s finest including Ariel Elias, Brittany Carney, Chris Gethard, Kenice Mobley, Steven Castillo, and even someone from the crowd in attendance.

Why Would You Ask Me That? is set for Wed. May 31st  at 8PM at Littlefield and tickets are $15.54. Best go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Why Are You Single? (in NYC) 2/22

News
dave mizzoni, littlefield, marie faustin, nyc comedy

Undoubtedly, there are millions of people who are headed into Valentine’s Day without a significant other and wish that wasn’t the case.

With that in mind, post-Valentine’s Day this year, NYC comedy favorite Marie Faustin is going to tackle this issue head on by running three eligible New York singles through a gauntlet of dating challenges to ascertain why the hell they’re still single. Who knows? Maybe it is the world’s fault? You’ll have to come see Why Are You Single?, created by Faustin and Dave Mizzoni, at Littlefield on Wed. Feb. 22nd at 8PM to find out.

Tickets are $19.29 for such a juicy, spicy comedy show and, also, if you want to be a contestant, you can submit via IG @reeezy.

Pick of the Day: Joe Castle Baker is Gordon in COME, LOVE (in NYC) 2/14

February 3, 2023
News
brooklyn, littlefield, nyc comedy, valentine's day, what to do

Again, that pesky Valentine’s Day is coming very soon and it would just so happen that Feb. 14th is going to be on a Tuesday. That probably makes planning, should you choose to partake in specifically cherishing your partner that day, a little complicated between the weekend leading up to it and an early weekday.

Do you just do the Valentine’s stuff on the day of or get it over with on Saturday/Sunday?

Well, we don’t know that particulars of whatever relationship/situationship that you’re in currently, but we can tell you that NYC comedy staple Joe Castle Baker will be playing a facsimile of himself, Gordon, to host a stellar comedy variety show on Valentine’s night. Apropos to the day, COME, LOVE ought to be a fantastic evening of comedy as NYC comedy stars Sarah Sherman, Max Wittert, Edy Modica, Chloe Troast, and Francesca D’Uva will be joining with Gordon/Joe at 8PM at Littlefield in Brooklyn will prove that going to a live comedy show is far from one of the riskiest things to do on a date.

Tickets for Joe Castle Baker is Gordon in COME, LOVE are $19.29 and you best go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Tinder Live Valentine’s Day Special (in NYC) 2/11

January 27, 2023
News
brooklyn, lane moore, littlefield, new york city, nyc comedy, tinder live, valentine's day, what to do

When it comes to love and comedy, there is kind of no better option than Lane Moore‘s brilliant creation, Tinder Live, where she actually swipes and messages and gets into all other manner of dating hijinks via the popular dating app.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, you ought to know that Lane is doing a very special Valentine’s Day edition of her show and, again, we’re pretty sure it’s your best bet for comedy when corporatized love is in the air (even if you’re rolling solo that day/weekend). This Valentine’s round of Tinder Live will feature special guest NYC comedians Gabe Gonzalez, Anna Borges, and Dan Chamberlain and happen Sat. Feb. 11th at 8PM at the show’s Brooklyn home, Littlefield.

Tickets are only $25.35 right now and you best go get them now here.

Pick of the Day: Pregame! (in NYC) NYE

News
aparna nancherla, brooklyn, Joe Castle Baker, jordan carlos, josh sharp, littlefield, natalie rotter laitman, new year's, new year's eve, nyc comedy, nye, richard perez

If you’re in NYC for New Year’s Eve, you’ve got, perhaps, too many options that all sounds oh so enticing. After all, there is only so ground you can cover between countdowns leading up to the ball dropping (or, rather, slowly being lowered) in Times Square.

Littlefield in Brooklyn is affording you the opportunity to get in a great comedy show, Pregame!, at a more than nice price before you really get going to a several stops for your NYE’s (unless you’re doing the thing where you stand for hours on end in the middle of Times Square). Starting at the early hour of 7PM, you can enjoy the comedy stylings of Josh Sharp, Aparna Nancherla, Jordan Carlos, Joe Castle Baker, Natalie Rotter-Laitman and Richard Perez, then have plenty of time to galavant across whatever boroughs your heart desires (or go in for the $60 VIP package that gets you into Parklife’s afterparty).

Tickets for Pregame! are only $15.54 (versus some of the close to triple figure admission fees you might right into elsewhere in town) and you really ought to get in on this deal here.

Pick of the Day: A CHRISTMAS CAROLE KING: A Hastily Written Musical Starring the Audience! (in NYC) 12/18

December 9, 2022
News
aaron jackson, brooklyn, jo firestone, josh sharp, littlefield, live comedy, musical comedy, nyc comedy

What would holiday music be without caroling or people just singing in unison in general? Arguably, it would be, perhaps, just annoying (shout out to everyone playing non-stop holiday music for all of December)?

With that in mind, Jo Firestone, Aaron Jackson, and Josh Sharp are upping the ante here with making a Christmas version of their “Hastily Written Musical Starring the Audience” entitled “A Christmas Carole King“. Indeed, you the audience will be the center of this yuletide tinged round of chaos that will probably be more fun than every holiday party you go to this year.

Get in on A CHRISTMAS CAROLE KING: A Hastily Written Musical Starring the Audience! set for Sun. Dec. 8th at 8PM at Littlefield in Brooklyn. Tickets are $12.47 a pop and you can (and very much should) get them here.

Pick of the Day: Chris Gethard: A Father and the Sun (in NYC) 12/16

November 25, 2022
News
brooklyn, chris gethard, littlefield, nyc comedy, stand up comedy

Even as we near the three years since the COVID-19 pandemic started, there are still things coming back that took a large sabbatical from being live and in person. Chris Gethard doing stand-up comedy is thankfully one of those things that we can say is finally making a return to the world of the living.

Gethard, the beloved comedy multi-hypenate between TCGS/Beautiful Anonymous/Planet Scum/his own solo comedy, has a new hour he’s working on and has an exclusive date set at Brooklyn’s Littlefield just before the big, looming holiday break.

Fri. Dec. 16th at 7PM, Chris will give you the rundown on his whole world through his stand-up and you really ought to not miss out on it. Tickets are $25.35 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Tinder Live with Lane Moore & Guest Janeane Garofalo (in NYC) 11/5

November 2, 2022
News
janeane garofalo, lane moore, littlefield, tinder live

It should be a given, whether you follow us closely here at The Comedy Bureau or not, that Tinder Live with Lane Moore is an absolute must see show whenever it plays even remotely close to you wherever you are. It’s one of the most electric shows simply from Lane’s undeniable charm and whipsmart wit while diving headfirst into Tinder.

NYC gets treated to Lane’s Tinder escapades on a monthly basis at Littlefield in Brooklyn, but we wanted to highlight this one a little more as indie comedy legend Janeane Garofalo will be the featured guest that will be offering her hallowed counsel on whatever dating profiles come across Lane’s screen. Thus, it’s an extra, double-plus must see and there are tickets still available for this 11/5 edition of Tinder Live.

They’re going for $25.35 and you best snag them here now.

Pick of the Day: Looking Forward to It: Pro Choice Candidates (in NYC) 9/27

September 20, 2022
News
abortion access, alison leiby, brooklyn, emily's list, josh gondelman, joyelle nicole johnson, karen chee, littlefield, Michael Cruz Kayne, nyc comedy
As it’s National Voter Registration Day today, it’s only fitting that we recommend the comedy show dedicated to voting, Looking Forward to It. Throughout the last couple of years, this show has brought together the very best of the NYC comedy scene to raise funds for voter engagement, which is very much in dire need as it has been for years and years now.
This upcoming edition of Looking Forward to It on Tues. Sept. 27th at Littlefield at 8PM will be specifically supporting Emily’s List, a fund dedicated to pro-choice female candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. Making up any ground from Roe vs. Wade being overturned is a crucial cause and, very likely, abortion access will be the defining issue of this upcoming 2022 Midterm Elections.
So, with all of that in mind, you’ll be supporting essential work as well as enjoying the comedy stylings of Joyelle Nicole Johnson, Michael Cruz Kayne, Karen Chee, and hosts Josh Gondelman and Alison Leiby. Again, they’re some of the most beloved comics in NYC right now.

Tickets are $19.51 and you can and very, very much should go get them here.

Pick of the Day: A Night with Dylan Adler (in NYC) 8/29

July 19, 2022
News
brooklyn, Dylan Adler, littlefield, nyc comedy

In the not so distant future, it’s not hard to imagine that the incredibly multi-talented, hilarious, and acrobatic Dylan Adler is so busy headlining everywhere that you might not get to see him do an hour in NYC all that easily. NYC (and pretty much anyone who has seen him) has become an immediate fan and his silly, but bombastically dark and vulnerable comedy has captured the attention of the whole of NYC comedy.

With that said, you shouldn’t miss your latest chance to catch him headline next month at Littlefield in Brooklyn. A Night with Dylan Adler is set for Mon. Aug. 29th at 8PM ET. Tickets are $12 you really ought to go get them right here right now.

Pick of the Day: (The Return of Both) Butterboy 2/7 (in NYC) & Good Heroin (in LA) 2/

February 4, 2022
News
aparna nancherla, donwill, jo firestone, littlefield, maeve higgins, nyc comedy, stand up comedy

The Omicron edition of COVID-19 really threw a wrench at 100 mph into everything all of us had going in 2021 to really ruin the start of 2022. Nearly every live comedy show that was already back or had planned to be back in that time took another break out of an abundance of caution.

Thankfully, case numbers and hospitalizations have trended down enough that, fingers crossed, things are coming back and that includes some of the best weekly comedy shows that we rely on for our weekly evening shot of community oriented dopamine. Namely, Butterboy with Aparna Nancherla, Maeve Higgins, and Jo Firestone @ Littlefield in Brooklyn, NYC and Good Heroin @ Stories in Echo Park, LA are returning next week and we can only hope that this return sticks.

Specifically Butterboy is posting up back at Littlefield for your favorite Monday night of comedy in NYC at 8PM ET on Feb. 7th and Good Heroin is taking over the back patio at Stories on Feb. 14th at 8PM PT.

You can get your $10 advance tickets for Butterboy here and have some spare bucks to donate for Good Heroin (or enjoy the show for FREE if inflation is getting the best of you).

Pick of the Day: Butterboy 4 Year Anniversary (in NYC) 11/15

November 4, 2021
News
aparna nancherla, jo firestone, littlefield, maeve higgins, ny comedy

The Monday night 8PM slot at Littlefield in Brooklyn has been a historic one and stewarding it is to be an beloved anchor for the NYC comedy scene. Eons ago, seemingly, it was Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen on Mondays at Littlefield, then it was Night Train with Wyatt Cenac, and, for the last four years, it has been Aparna Nancherla, Jo Firestone, and Maeve Higgins as the smashing trio behind Butterboy.

The NY Comedy Festival is indeed next week and that edition of Butterboy will be part of the festival, but the week after, on Mon. Nov. 15th, Aparna, Jo, Maeve, and their DJ Donwill are going to mark the fourth year of doing Butterboy and making sure NYC comedy has the perfect panacea for any sort case of the Mondays.

Already, they’ve got Joe Pera, fresh off the season premiere of Joe Pera Talks With You, Joyelle Nicole Johnson, fresh from her on The Tonight Show, and Lili Michelle, who just finished her run of one of the best and longest running outdoor shows throughout the pandemic, Peaches & Cream. Undoubtedly, there will be some great surprises TBA.

So, you ought to snag your tickets quick for this one. Yes, they are still $10 right now.

Pick of the Day: Jeoparty! (in NYC) 10/13

September 22, 2021
News
jeopardy, josh gondelman, littlefield, michael kosta, nyc comedy, ophira eisenberg, shalewa sharpe

At this point in time, it doesn’t seem like they’re going to have Will Ferrell reprise his rendition of the late, great Alex Trebek to fill in for the vacant slot to host Jeopardy! (seems like Mayim Bialik wants to be the permanent replacement?). So, that means that a whole row of comedians won’t be the contestants on our personal dream version of the show.

There’s still hope, however, as Brooklyn’s littlefield is doing their very own all-comedians spin on the trivia game show institution called Jeoparty! with Ophira Eisenberg next month. It’ll be even more ridiculous than SNL’s Celebrity Jeopardy if you can imagine. For this go around of Jeoparty!, NYC comedy’s best and brightest in Josh Gondelman, Shalewa Sharpe, and Michael Kosta will be joining in.

Jeoparty! is set for Wed. Oct. 13th at 8PM ET. For $10, here: Where can you get tickets?

Pick of the Day: Tinder LIVE! with Lane Moore (in person & livestream) 6/25

June 17, 2021
News
brooklyn, lane moore, littlefield, ny comedy, tinder live

One of the shows that you should all be most excited about coming back in person is the always electric and romantically mischievous Tinder LIVE! with Lane Moore. Lane had been doing her brilliant show where she works Tinder live on stage, often with the audience playing a huge part, all over the country before lockdown.

Of course, that all came to a screeching halt in March last year, but Lane is now set to not only do a date in Brooklyn at the beloved Littlefield, but is going on a legitimate nationwide Tinder LIVE! with Lane Moore Tour. The Littlefield show will be in person on Fri. Jun. 25th at 8PM ET, but also be available for live-stream, and will be featuring very special guests Joanna Hausmann and Frank Coniff of MST3K. Go get tickets for that show here and get dates and tickets for her nationwide tour here.

Pick of the Day: Return of Butterboy (in NY)

June 11, 2021
News
aparna nancherla, brooklyn, butterboy, jo firestone, littlefield, nyc comedy

One of NYC’s marquee weekly stand-up shows was Butterboy. Even during lockdown, they did a virtual show every Monday that kept so many of us from going stir crazy and was a very appreciated blessing (as well as a great reminder that it was indeed Monday during quarantine).

Now, Aparna Nancherla, Jo Firestone, and Donwill are all set to return to their normal, weekly in-person regimen back home at Littlefield in Brooklyn on Mondays at 8PM ET starting Mon., July 5th (for fully vaccinated audiences). The line-ups will be great, the tickets are reasonable ($10 in adv., $12 day of), and there will be live-streaming for those not lucky enough to be in NYC for only $5.

Get tickets for Butterboy and keep up to date with line-ups and everything else at butterboycomedy.com.

News
brooklyn, emily flake, gastor almonte, jessica delfino, kendra cunningham, littlefield, ophira eisenberg, shalewa sharpe

Even at the very start of lockdown, we had the idea that whenever in person shows could happen again that live-streaming them simultaneously would probably be the way forward.

Well, it looks like that is going to actually become more of a thing as a good deal of Littlefield NYC’s shows will have very limited capacity and also live-stream the show from the venue for a nice price, so the rest of the world (and definitely more folks than the venue can hold) can tune in.

So, one such show is that you can try this out with is the beloved NYC favorite SH*TSHOW, hosted by Ophira Eisenberg and Emily Flake. They’re back at it with a splendid NYC line-up of Shalewa Sharpe, Gastor Lamonte, Jessica Delfino, and Kendra Cunningham and you don’t have to be in Brooklyn, at Littlefield, in-person to watch. You can just pay $5 and get a live-stream link for the show, but witness it like it was something that you were actually at.

SH*TSHOW: F*ck It Edition goes live on Fri. Apr. 30th at 4:30PM PT/7:30PM ET and you can (and should) go get tickets here.

Seeso is wasting no time in getting the second season of live comedy showcase series Night Train with Wyatt Cenac going. The renewal announcement was made today along with the line-ups feature much of the best in NYC and around the country. The tapings are all set up all around Valentine’s Day.

What makes us most excited about this new batch of Night Train is plenty more opportunity for Wyatt to spit the fire that he did with his immediate-post-election album, One Angry Night in November (you can still get it for free here).

You can get tickets, from which the proceeds will go to charity, here.

Given this moment in history, comedy will play a crucial, fascinating role in the weeks, months, and years to come in both speaking truth to power and also assuaging fear.

Much of stand-up comedy leans left and had plenty to say about Trump through this election cycle and will have plenty to say coming up.

In fact, Wyatt Cenac made his latest set at his show Night Train, which were his musings on Trump winning while they were still fresh and raw, into a whole album called One Angry Night in November.

On top of being the first comedy album about the election to come out, it’s 16 minutes and change long and free.

So, without further adieu, get One Angry Night in November here.
