Pick of the Day: Don’t Break (at NYCF) 11/4

We have no doubt in our mind that one of the most talked about events at the New York Comedy Festival, when all is said and done, will be the demented comedy game show hosted/refereed by Danny Catlow and David Brown, Don’t Break.

A select of very funny comedians, going head-to-head, are saddled with one simple task as stated in the very name of the show. While that premise is as simple as it gets, Catlow and Brown run their game not unlike something out of Squid Game by enforcing harsh judgments and introducing more and more rules/challenges as to prevent any player/comedian from just sitting in a corner and not talking to anyone the whole time.

It’s such devilish fun and with a line-up of Marie Faustin, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Richard Perez, Jo Firestone, Sabrina Wu, Joe Castle Baker, Rachel Kaly, Kate O’Connor, and Wyatt Fair, the competition will be viciously hysterical.

Make sure you set aside plans for Sat. Nov. 4th at 9:30PM to be at Littlefield and get tickets right now at $15.54 a pop.

David Brown and Danny Catlow‘s Squid-Game-ish comedy game show, DON’T BREAK!, wreaked its havoc in LA and is now coming to NYC to put the mettle of comedians to the ultimate test. The very best of the NYC scene will see how far they can go without laughing even one iota.

For this special NYC edition of DON’T BREAK, the likes of Sarah Squirm, Edy Modica, Ike Ufomadu, Rachel Kaly, Nathan Min, Molly Kearney, and William Banks will competitively push each other buttons until there is one stone-faced player left. Oh, it should be noted that the audience is completely free to laugh (and will since comedy doesn’t get much more absurd than this).

Set a reminder for Tues. Jul. 11th at 7PM at Littlefield for this NYC DON’T BREAK! and go get your tickets here at $15.54 before they sell out.

One of the hardest comedic skills to master is not breaking, laughing, giggling, snickering while on stage at someone else’s bit or your very own. For almost everyone, it’s such a hard feat that there are many SNL sketches that are pretty much just seeing when everyone in the scene will break and how hard they’ll do it.

That’s why Danny Catlow and David Brown are making a whole game show out of it, pitting comedians against each other to see who can commit to whatever is happening on stage the longest. Called DON’T BREAK, a $200 prize is on the line for 10 comedians.

For what will be an initial test run of DON’T BREAK, Brown and Catlow have recruited fierce competitors in:

  • Kate O’Connor
  • Izzy Gerasole
  • Scott Egleston
  • Anna Seregina
  • Luke Taylor
  • Camirin Farmer
  • Wyatt Fair
  • Carly Kane
  • Kendra Uncut
  • Kat Toledo

Oh, this will be a FREE rehearsal of what’s sure to be unhinged fun on Sat. Sept. 10th at 2PM PT at The Elysian.

Just when we needed to watch something abjectly silly and absurd and brilliantly dumb today, long time sketch comedy collaborators David Brown and Mike Lane delivered this short film, Ants.

If you need a pick me up today for some reason, this might do the trick.

Enjoy Ants here.

We weren’t kidding about that pull quote from our ‘100 Best’ list from last year.

F*ck This Late Night Show, the late night talk show that has an enemy force actively trying to ruin the show, was so damn fun.

They’re finally doing another version of it next week and you really ought to not miss it.

Tickets are only $5 and you can (and really should) get them here.
