Pick of the Day: Eliot Glazer’s Haunting Renditions 4/3

March 29, 2021

Once more, Eliot Glazer‘s Haunting Renditions was a true and rare thing of beauty and hilarity that we got to enjoy pre-pandemic. Glazer’s rearranging of notorious pop songs into grand, sweeping epic reimagined versions of the song were sights and sounds to behold and we all have been fortunate enough that Eliot has done a virtual version of the show throughout quarantine.

This latest round of Haunting Renditions will not only feature very special guests Whitmer Thomas (The Golden One) and Brent Sullivan, but also be giving some of its proceeds to the National Association for Music Education.

So, enjoy some beautifully redone songs that have been reviled by music history and support arts education via Haunting Renditions (presented by Dynasty Typewriter) on Sun. Apr. 3rd at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets are $5-$10 and you can (and should) go them here.

On his debut comedy album, Brent Sullivan displays the marvelous juxtaposition of his dulcet voice and cadence and his anxiety ridden life that seems to be hilariously unraveling at every turn, kind of like what an actual Barf City would be like.

Seriously, we’d wager you won’t hear a more soothing sounding story about a sexual identity crisis from anyone else.

So, pick up Barf City fresh off the presses of AST Records (also available on iTunes and Amazon).

Brent Sullivan has been very keenly described as a smooth operator when it comes to doing stand-up. He also has sharp, cutting material that juxtaposes quite nicely with that slick delivery.

His very first set on Conan was a solid exhibition all of that and you can see so for yourself here.

Want to Hear What Comedians Obsess Over? Listen to Brent Sullivan’s “Completely Obsessed”

Whether you’re aware of it not, much of the material that comedians present to the world is a result of their personal obsessions. It may be an obsession of any kind, but often times it’s an fascination with the darker, wierder corners of humanity that often get glossed over by polite society. From that angle, you can see where there’s a driving force in a good percentage of humor.

Brent Sullivan has sought out to delve into and explore these particular comedian obsessions in his aptly named podcast Completely Obsessed. The likes of Anthony Jeselnik, Sean Patton, Kate Berlant, Dan St. Germain, and more really get into the nitty gritty of anything from plane crashes to pornography to Christmas. Brent is also fascinating himself as his various neuroses and anxieties come into conversation in discussing these various subjects of odd interest.

Give it a listen here and you might just see some of the parts of the sausage, so to speak, that makes up a lot of jokes.

As mentioned above, the very funny Brent Sullivan made his late night stand up debut this week on The Pete Holmes Show. From this set, you can note that getting letters that you sent yourself from 10 years ago might be not as great an experience as it was sending them.

Watch the set here.
