Get Your First Look at the New ‘Clone High’

April 5, 2023
News
bill lawrence, chris miller, clone high, hbo max, phil lord, teaser

Between the trio of Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Bill Lawrence, there is a veritable comedy empire that spans movie, TV, live action and animation. Since 2002, their paths have led them to critical and commercial darlings including The LEGO Movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Afterparty, Scrubs, and Ted Lasso.

Also, in 2002, they all created a cult animated favorite, Clone High, the first in many milestones of their quick-fire, smart off-beat humor. Over 20 years after it first premiered, Lord, Miller, and Lawrence are reviving the series of HBO Max and though reboots/revivals/refreshes/etc. are getting tiring as a commodity, this particular new edition of Clone High looks pretty damn fun (especially with almost all the core elements/characters intact).

After all, if Lord and Miller could make a beloved movie franchise out of LEGO, they certainly can redo their own series with Bill Lawrence.

See for yourself in this first teaser for the new Clone High here, coming to HBO Max soon.

Get Your First Look at the Final Season of Barry and the Conclusion of Hitman Comedy

March 7, 2023
News
barry, bill hader, season 4, teaser

Over 3 seasons, Bill Hader and Alec Berg have dazzled us all with the bleakly dark, but still very hysterical Barry, following a troubled hitman desperately trying to being an actor (and a better person) and nothing but chaos trailing him at every turn. For our money, it’s one of the best dark comedies that there ever has been and has elevated the game in terms of how comedy can be directed for TV (or even for movies-the show is one of the most cinematic comedies).

Without giving too much away, the seemingly impossible redemption path for Barry, at the outset of season 4, seems even more impossible now, at least on Barry’s terms. This first teaser for season 4 is already so enticing and yet leaves so many possibilities open to what end Barry might ultimately come to (a happy ending? probably not in the capital-H sense).

Get a taste of this fourth and final season of Barry here, then make sure you have access to HBO on Apr. 16th when it premieres.

Here’s the Very First Teaser for Bob Odenkirk as ‘Lucky Hank’

January 24, 2023
News
amc, bob odenkirk, lucky hank, teaser

There was a whiff of a teaser that we’ve gotten for Bob Odenkirk‘s next big thing AMC, Lucky Hank, but there wasn’t much more to go off of other than seeing Bob’s face as the character and the source material, Richard Russo‘s novel Straight Man. That’s especially intriguing considering whether the split between comedy and drama would be for this show.

Seems like, from this very first teaser, that Odenkirk, as the titular Hank Devereaux, will be falling more into the comedy side of things. That seems explicitly clear as Hank seems inundated with the sort of life that makes his nickname ironic (especially the final moment of the teaser).

It’s just a tiny morsel, but it’s a pretty tasty one and one that is signaling perhaps a third acclaimed show Bob Odenkirk has been in on AMC.

Look for the premiere of Lucky Hank on Mon. Mar. 19th on AMC and AMC+.

Atlanta Announces Final Season to Premiere in September with Very Trippy Teaser

July 22, 2022
News
atlanta, fx, hulu, premiere date, season 4, teaser

What started as a dramedy about coming up in the rap game in Atlanta has become something so expansive in its artistic scope that it’s hard to truly define or categorize in most traditional ways. Donald Glover’s vision for dissecting race, class, and the history of the two that we all carry with us has been electrifying and why Atlanta has been an award winner right out of the gate.

The reverberations of these past three seasons of the series have already had a ripple effect in terms of what TV could be a doing away with any sort of previously enshrined rules of narrative or genre. We have no doubt that’ll be the case for season 4 of Atlanta especially with an announcement teaser that features Coconut Crunchies falling from the sky, striped gators, an ostrich being born and grown to adulthood in mere seconds, the inverse of a mic drop, and more.

See for yourself here, then get hooked for the fourth and final season of Atlanta when September comes around (thank goodness we don’t have to wait another indefinite amount of years between seasons).

Get Your First Look at Season 2 of Hacks (Teaser)

April 14, 2022
News
hacks, hannah einbinder, hbo, jean smart, lucia aniello, paul downs, season 2, teaser

Hacks, the latest freshman single cam comedy to be critically acclaimed and award winning out of the gate (Atlanta and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend being the others in recent memory) has been such a lauded show that it, like those others freshman phenoms, feels like it has been around a lot longer than it actually has.

Well, that’s kind of what happens when a show is that good out of the gate. Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, Jen Statsky, Jean Smart, and Hannah Einbinder all make for one of the best explorations of stand-up comedy and fighting your way through the entertainment biz as a woman, no matter where you are in age or station, and the second season has been highly anticipated since the credits rolled for season 1.

Lucky for us all, season 2 is kicking off very soon, Thurs. May 12th to be exact, on HBO Max. You can take your very first look at all the fights and cool looks of mutual respect between Ava and Deborah and everything in between here (as this season will follow them out of Vegas and on the road).

Here’s a Welcome to Human Resources, The Otherworldly Workplace Spin-Off of Big Mouth

February 7, 2022
News
big mouth, human resources, netflix, teaser

Hormone Monsters, Shame Wizards, Love Bugs, and more are the workforce in the Big Mouth Cinematic Universe that help guide human thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the wildly, oxymoronic way that only humans really relish in. They’ve been the lords of both chaos and healing of their assigned humans and the most stand-out part of Big Mouth. As such, Netflix went all in on a spin-off that’s focused on all the magically real creatures that people have come to know and love over several seasons of Big Mouth.

With that in mind, you might want a more formal, “corporate” introduction to them including some brand new folks like “Logic Rocks”, which should be a very fun foil to the extremities of a Depression Kitty or the Anxiety Mosquito. Get your welcome to the most fun version of a Human Resources department here.

Get Your First Look at Chris Redd, Langston Kerman, Sam Jay, and Jak Knight in Peacock’s “Bust Down”

January 28, 2022
News
bust down, chris redd, jak knight, langston kerman, peacock, sam jay, teaser

Though Peacock reported yet another loss for the mega media conglomerate Comcast NBC Universal to the tune of several hundreds of millions of dollars this week, they did also report a healthy subscriber base of 17 million. That’s a pleasant surprise considering they were a late entry into the streaming service game.

Part of that has to do with the sort of content they’ve amassed and put out, perhaps the revival of cult favorite MacGruber being part of that reason. NBC’s streaming service has another card to play in the coming months of 2022 with a brand new comedy in Bust Down. The cast of Jak Knight, Langston Kerman, Sam Jay, and Chris Redd, all rising star comedians through SNL, Big Mouth, Insecure, or maybe even their own show, Pause with Sam Jay, is a selling point all on its own.

The premise of “Four casino employees in a dead-end job in middle America attempt to find self-worth in their bad ideas,” from Luke Del Tredici and Dan Goor could very well be frosting on this cake of a show. It might end up being the sitcom for these late stage capitalist, ongoing pandemic-ridden, climate change ravaged times that makes any and all of us in the thick of struggle feel less alone.

Or, it could be a great vehicle for Redd, Knight, Kerman, and Jay to show off, which we’re also on board for.

Whatever the case may be, get the very first look at Bust Down here, then look for it stream on Peacock starting Mar. 10th.

Human Resources, Big Mouth’s Otherworldly Spin-Off, Gives First Look

January 12, 2022
News
big mouth, human resources, netflix, teaser

Arguably, the last season of the raunchy, yet vulnerable coming-of-age animated comedy Big Mouth, was a big set-up for the spin-off Human Resources that focuses in on the world where all the monsters and creatures that are in charge of human emotions/feelings/thoughts/fears/anxieties/insecurities come from. Hormone Monsters, Shame Wizards, Love Bugs, etc. and their bureaucratic and nuanced adventures will drive a whole new facet of what will inevitably the Big Mouth Cinematic Universe.

You can get your first sneak peek as to what that will entail with Human Resources‘ “recruitment teaser” and wonder what the Moai head manger-esque character will be called (Logic Liason?)

Look for the series premiere of Big Mouth‘s Human Resources on Fri. Mar. 18th on Netflix.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4 Gives You Its First Look

November 30, 2021
News
alex borstein, amazon prime, marvelous mrs maisel, rachel brosnahan, season 4, teaser

The last time that we got to check in with Midge Maisel, there wasn’t really a pandemic to speak of. As such, it seems like a decade has passed since the last season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (it’s our belief that ten years have passed in the last two years).

As a sidebar, we do relish in the irony that one of Midge’s touchstone moments in doing stand-up is performing in a park during a protest and the actual reality of comedians doing such things last summer were, of course, so much different.

The world has changed irreversibly for so many reasons and plenty of folks have come out of lockdown with a renewed fire to shake up the world. So, it’s only fitting that this latest season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel sees Midge hellbent on breaking the systemic fallacies of the biz that are keeping her down as a parallel to what’s happening in 2021 and will hopefully continue happening in 2022.

Season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel seems to promise we’re getting back to the Maisel that drunkenly riffed on her cheating husband, the original spark for the whole series.

Get a taste of all of that with the very first teaser for season 4 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel here, then mark down Feb. 18th for this season premiere.

This Season 3 Teaser of Atlanta Is the First New Bit of Atlanta We’ve Seen in Years

November 1, 2021
News
atlanta, donald glover, fx, season 3, teaser

There are a lot of mysteries to the much lauded Donald Glover series Atlanta including the sort of schedule it goes by. Glover’s penchant for breaking form, shifting tone, refocusing characters, etc. are part of the electricity of the show and why it was immediately beloved by viewers and critics alike from season 1.

Parallel to that is the actual production and release of the show, which seems to be teased in passing by Glover or FX’s John Landgraf out of nowhere. Even then, we’re not exactly sure what or when to expect other than a somewhat quixotic journey through the hip hop world in Atlanta, GA.

That said, three years ago, the series teased the next season promising rapper Paper Boi the next level of his career with Earn in tow. The world has irreversibly changed since then and we can only imagine what Glover and company has cooked up to bring us season 3 of Atlanta during this side of the COVID-19 pandemic. The echoes of “it’s after the end of the world” hints at the show reckoning with what we’re all reckoning with.

See for yourself in the season 3 teaser here, then look for the season 3 premiere of Atlanta in 2022 (hopefully in the earlier part of it)

Get Ready to Learn More of How To (with Things You Took For Granted) with John Wilson (Season 2 Teaser)

October 25, 2021
News
hbo, how to with john wilson, john wilson, season 2, teaser

The wholly surprising and endearing (and acclaimed and also, very funny) docu-series How To with John Wilson is set for its second season in just about a month, thankfully, right after Thanksgiving.

Wilson slyly charmed with his deftly edited documentary footage of everyday life in NYC, but focusing on hyper specific niches, like scaffolding or wrapping furniture in plastic (and, of course, the humanity that is behind all of that). Based off of the teaser for this second season, we’re pretty sure there’ll be episodes on how to parallel park, how to move apartments by yourself, and how to get ready in the morning when you’re in a rush.

Whatever the episodes end up being, we’re thrilled to get another round of Wilson’s lens of minutia of the sweetness of life that we so often overlook, especially if you’re caught up in the tornado that is life in NYC.

Look for season 2 to premiere Fri. Nov. 26th on HBO/HBO Max.

Get Your First Look at S3 of What We Do In The Shadows (as Nandor Tries VR)

July 20, 2021
News
first look, fx, season 3, teaser, what we do in the shadows

One of the most heralded comedies (that is so glaringly absent from the field of this year’s Emmy nominees on a technicality) in recent memory, What We Do In The Shadows is set to return very soon (though not soon enough if you ask us).

The master vampires of Staten Island return with their increasingly mysterious familiar Guillermo for their third season on Thurs. Sept. 2nd on FX (and next day on Hulu). That is indeed weeks away, but at least we have this very first teaser to look at (and just hope that there are more to come like there have been in the past two seasons).

Funny enough, this first look is also a first look for Nandor as he ventures to try a VR headset for the first time. Enjoy this as much as you can over the next month and change.

Get a Taste of Season 4 of FXx’s Curated Short Form Series “Cake”

News
cake, fx, fx on hulu, fxx, season 4, teaser

The first three rounds of FX’s Cake brought several slices of a wildly multi-layered, multi-flavored “cake” featuring live-action, animation, musical comedy, etc. from all round the world.

They’re thankfully doing another round of it and that will be served up shortly on Thurs. Mar. 11th in fact. Apparently, it will be premiering on FXx, but it’s very likely that you’ll just stream it on Hulu the next day (when it’s available for streaming).

There’s a bit of teaser that just gives a little dollop’s worth of what’s to come. If you need a break from reality (and we’re guessing that you do), this new season of Cake might be just what you need.

Watch the teaser for season 4 of Cake here.

Black Mirror Creator Charlie Brooker Is Making a Netflix Mockumentary Comedy Special, “Death to 2020”

December 7, 2020
News
charlie brooker, Cristin Milioti, death to 2020, Diane Morgan, Hugh Grant, Joe Keery, leslie jones, lisa kudrow, netflix, samuel l jackson, teaser, tracey ullman

Without question, 2020 has been one of the worst years that anyone alive has been living. It will very likely be the worst year that many of us (who have many years of living ahead of them) will have lived through in our lifetime. COVID-19, Trump, climate change, and the uprisings from systemic/racial/misogynistic/classist/transphobic oppression have made 2020 a terribly tragic year on a historic level.

With that in mind, master of dystopia Charlie Brooker, creator of Black Mirror, is going to do a very special mockumentary style comedy special dedicated to how especially awful this year has been. Brooker is very aptly calling it Death to 2020.

Outside of it being a mockumentary Netflix “comedy event” and the cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Tracey Ullman, Leslie Jones, Diane Morgan, Cristin Milioti, and Joe Keery, there’s not very many other details to be had at this time as you can see in this teaser here.

As far as 2020 goes, it makes total sense that someone who is responsible for giving you nightmares about robotic dogs hunting humans to extinction would be doing a comedy special about this year.

Here’s an Insane Teaser (as You’d Expect) for Season 5 of The Eric Andre Show

October 1, 2020
News
adult swim, eric andre, season 5, teaser, the eric andre show

The Eric Andre Show has long been a wild break from this plane of reality and certainly a twisted-fun-house-of-mirrors reflection of the world of late night. With each of his four seasons at Adult Swim, Eric has managed to up the ante from past episodes while refining his grasp on controlled chaos (i.e. being a little more aware of how to get arrested less during sketches).

This fifth season looks to keep up the absurdist, dadaist vibe going strong, but, this time around, as it is 2020, the world seems actually more crazy than the world of the show. With that in mind, it would still be a nice break from the sort of lives we’re all afforded in quarantine.

See for yourself  with this teaser for season 5 of The Eric Andre Show here, then look for the season premiere on Sun. Oct. 25th at midnight.

Woke, the TV Series Based on Artist Keith Knight, Gets Its First Teaser

July 10, 2020
News
hulu, keith knight, teaser, woke

The journey of Keith Knight, a noted political cartoonist, to where he is today with his work was already pretty timely before 2020. Yet, it’s even more timely than ever as there does seem to be a worldwide awakening that’s here to stay to how deep and embedded divisions between race really are.

So, Hulu has a series following that very journey with Woke. It, of course, follows a black cartoonist who gets “woke”/radicalized after being racially profiled by the police. As it’s focused on an animator, reality does get bent in more ways than one and there are echoes of the sort of magical realism of Sorry To Bother You. Starring Lamorne Morris as Keef, this series seems to reckon with everything that’s in upheaval right now (except for COVID-19).

See a bit of Woke for yourself here, then look for all episodes to begin streaming on Sept. 9th.

Justin Roiland’s Latest Series “Solar Opposites” Gets a Teaser

News
hulu, justin roiland, solar opposites, teaser

While you’re waiting for new episodes of Rick & Morty, well, actually, while you’re waiting for a lot of stuff to get back to the way they were, it’s nice to know that Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has a new animated series on the way, Solar Opposites, coming to Hulu.

In fact, Solar Opposites doesn’t seem to be all that far off from Rick & Morty (maybe living in one of the other universes within the Rick & Morty-verse). It follows an alien family trying they best they can to acclimatize to earth, but, of course, dealing with all the sorts of chaos Roiland has founded his entire career on. Intergalactic warfare, zombie outbreaks, a plethora of jauntily named fictional creatures, and plenty of family squabbling are all part of this new show.

See all of that and enjoy the teaser here, then look for the series premiere of Solar Opposites on Hulu, starting May 8th (even though we’ll probably be let out of our houses at that point).

If the intriguing short form streaming service Quibi indeed gets to launch next month as planned, we’ll all get to see the return of Reno 911, the beloved parody of long running docu-series Cops.

Looks like the whole cast is back in action and their dynamic is picking up right where they left off. See for yourself in this sneak peek here.

As it stands right now, the current launch date for Quibi is April 6th, but, as with everything right now, that is subject to change.

Season 1 of What We Do In the Shadows managed to expertly pull off both adapting the beloved movie of the same name from Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement into a TV show, staying faithful to the look and tone as well as introduce a new facet of the “grounded” vampire universe with a whole new cast of new characters.

Truly, one of the best things we saw last year.

Season 2 is right around the corner as you can see in these teasers and, thankfully, it’ll be one thing (probably) that won’t get postponed. Look for season 2 of What We Do In the Shadows to premiere on Wed. Apr. 15th on FX.

Not much is given away in this teaser for Run, a sort of mystery thriller/rom com. Yet, it feels like so many subtle hints are actually given by the looks and brief lines shared by Domnhall Gleeson and Merritt Wever. Also, the glimpse of the titular inciting incident kind of has us hooked as well.

Additionally, being in the hands of a wondrous duo behind the beloved Fleabag, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and frequent collaborator Vicky Jones, has our mind racing as to what sort of satisfyingly risky and unforeseen territory this series will take us.

Guess we’ll have to find out on the series premiere, Sun. Apr. 12th 10:30PM on HBO. For now, you can just enjoy this teaser for HBO’s Run.

Armando Iannuci’s Latest Series “Avenue 5″ Gets a Teaser and You Can Behold Hugh Laurie at the Head of a Space Cruise

Up until very recently, Armando Iannucci pretty much wheeled and dealed in devastatingly funny political satire with In The Loop, Veep, The Thick of It, Death of Stalin.

This latest HBO series sees one of most brilliant comedic voices of our time take on something more in the realm of sci-fi. Avenue 5 follows a space cruise (kind of like the one in the Fifth Element) for the ultra-wealthy and how things, of course, go awry. Also, Hugh Laurie gets to be a series regular again as well as the apparent head of this space cruise named Avenue 5. Thus far, we’re on board for whatever this will end up being.

See for yourself in this teaser, then be thankful you only have to wait until January to see the premiere.

Dave Chappelle’s “Sticks and Stones” Gets Announced by Morgan Freeman

Uncategorized
dave chappelle, morgan freeman, netflix, sticks and stones, teaser

Well, the fifth Netflix special, Sticks & Stones, from Dave Chappelle (also making it the fifth special since his long hiatus) is coming later this month.

Whoever was there for the taping definitely knows what to expect. For the rest of us, it’s hard to say as Dave plays things pretty close to the chest these days (more so than almost any other comedian probably), often announcing shows on the day of at very intimate venues and being an industry leader of those Yondr bags. Also, that last special at The Comedy Store’s Belly Room seemed more impromptu than a crafted hour.

So, this latest hour, to most of us right now, could be any number of things. We suppose that might be all part of Dave’s plan, a way to keep his mythos of being this living, breathing icon in comedy going.

No matter what your feelings of those four previous Netflix specials are (and lots of folks have mixed feelings about them), it’s very likely that we will all watch it because Dave indeed is still that aforementioned comedy icon.

Certainly, this teaser doesn’t tip off too much other than Dave is going to speak his mind as announced by none other than Morgan Freeman. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s going to happen on Aug. 26th when Sticks & Stones drops.
