The Daily Show Announces Schedule for First Round of Fill-In Hosts for Trevor Noah

January 5, 2023
News

Trevor Noah had indeed bid adieu to The Daily Show and the search for his replacement is well underway. As announced late last year, Comedy Central has opted to take their time with finding the next successor to The Daily Show mantle and, in the mean time, have a stable of hosts to take on hosting duties (potentially auditioning themselves for the role, perhaps?).

The first round of these hosts will go as follows

Leslie Jones 1/17-1/19
Wanda Sykes 1/23-1/26
DL Hughley 1/30-2/2
Chelsea Handler 2/6-2/9
Sarah Silverman 2/13-2/16

That very well could be a wide expanse of The Daily Show could and will feel like over the next month and a half as Leslie Jones’ Daily Show is probably going to be a tad different from Sarah Silverman’s. One should note that Handler has enthusiastically expressed interest in returning to late night and having a more socio-political bent on top of covering pop culture and Silverman ostensibly had her own version of The Daily Show with the amazing I Love You, America on Hulu.

Also, don’t be surprised if Comedy Central sneaks in some experimentation with the format itself. We personally hope they sneak the panel debate that The Nightly Show used to have back into this sort of show.

In any case, if you’d like to see this up close and personal for yourself and you happen to be in the NYC area, you can get free tickets from 1iota here.

Rhys Darby Is Your New Favorite Pirate in Teaser for “Our Flag Means Death”

Year and years ago, back when Johnny Depp was mostly scandal free, the world fell in love with him as Jack Sparrow, a free-wheeling, fun loving pirate at the heart of the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise.

Of course, on this of 2022, things are much different and Depp doesn’t curry the same sort of a favor with his movies (or his band Hollywood Vampires). Fret not though as there is a new fun loving set of pirates on the horizon that could very well take place of the slot that everyone held for the Disney adaptation of their famous ride.

Our Flag Means Death from David Jenkins (People of Earth) will have the very lovable pairing of Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi play real life pirates Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, respectively. Bonnet, though nowhere near as famous as Blackbeard, ditched his life as an aristocrat for the high seas and a black flag and ought to be a damn good time with Rhys Darby bringing him to life in this series. Also, this would mark Taika’s second time as a famous villain, previously playing Hitler in Jojo Rabbit and now, the infamous Blackbeard.

Get a taste of what all that comedic piracy will be like with this teaser here.

That should be enough for you to make sure you have HBO Max when Our Flag Means Death drops. In case it’s not, know that Leslie Jones will also be showing up in this historical pirate comedy to, of course, regulate.

Black Mirror Creator Charlie Brooker Is Making a Netflix Mockumentary Comedy Special, “Death to 2020”

Without question, 2020 has been one of the worst years that anyone alive has been living. It will very likely be the worst year that many of us (who have many years of living ahead of them) will have lived through in our lifetime. COVID-19, Trump, climate change, and the uprisings from systemic/racial/misogynistic/classist/transphobic oppression have made 2020 a terribly tragic year on a historic level.

With that in mind, master of dystopia Charlie Brooker, creator of Black Mirror, is going to do a very special mockumentary style comedy special dedicated to how especially awful this year has been. Brooker is very aptly calling it Death to 2020.

Outside of it being a mockumentary Netflix “comedy event” and the cast including Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant, Lisa Kudrow, Tracey Ullman, Leslie Jones, Diane Morgan, Cristin Milioti, and Joe Keery, there’s not very many other details to be had at this time as you can see in this teaser here.

As far as 2020 goes, it makes total sense that someone who is responsible for giving you nightmares about robotic dogs hunting humans to extinction would be doing a comedy special about this year.

“Supermarket Sweep” Revival with Leslie Jones Hosting Is Going to Series at ABC

The sheer enthusiasm that Leslie Jones exudes about, well, anything that’s even remotely excited about is what really ought to be compelling with a Supermarket Sweep revival. There probably will be a camera on her at all times capturing her reactions to every second of action during the show.

We’re imagining the same sort of energy that Leslie brought to commenting on the Olympics will be found here on this new Supermarket Sweep that will going up at ABC.

Also, as far as game show hosts go, we’re confident that Leslie might Steve Harvey a run for his money for amount of .gifs made of her from an episode of the show.

There’s been a lot of unfortunate hullabaloo and controversy, much of which is unwarranted, surrounding the trailers for Paul Feig’s new all-female Ghostbusters.

Let’s this very enjoyable second international trailer put all of that nonsense to rest.

Only a few days ago, the trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters dropped and went viral.

Now, the international trailer has arrived and gives you a few more bits (not enough to spoil anything) for you to enjoy/ponder including more lines from Chris Hemsworth as the secretary.

For awhile now, we’ve been trying to imagine what the trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot with an all female set of Ghostbusters would be like, especially since it’s a pretty great team of McCarthy, McKinnon, Wiig, and Jones.

Finally, the first official trailer is here and we don’t have to imagine anymore. It should be pretty obvious, but Melissa, Kate, Kristen, and Leslie all look great together as Ghostbusters.

What does Larry David do that makes these SNL promos with Leslie Jones so great?

Well, for starters, he’s, like you’d expect, kind ambivalent about the whole thing.

Often times, when a man remarries, he goes for a woman that is younger, perhaps so much younger that it’s kind of ridiculous.

So, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler highlighted that point on last night’s SNL with a new, innovative, somehow omniscient game show, Meet Your Second Wife.

Watch Louis C.K.’s Monologue And Trying To Keep Up With Talking Like Leslie Jones on SNL Finale

You’ve might have caught some clickbait headlines about Louis C.K.’s monologue from the season finale of Saturday Night Live last night.

While he did talk about “mild racism”, child molestation, and made an analogy between how he deals with his daughters fighting and the conflict between Israel and Palestine, it was still a great set of stand-up that framed and contextualized touchy subjects into a funny light.

Also, one of the best sketches of the night came when C.K. had to do a Leslie Jones impression.

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon Are Paul Feig’s New Ghostbusters

Rather than further the speculation on whether Chris Pratt will end up being a new incarnation of Indiana Jones, revel in the cast of Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters reboot. Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon will strap on proton packs and take down ghoulies in what’s supposed to be a scarier take on the franchise.

Looks like Bill Murray was right on with two of the four choices.

SNL Bumps Up Leslie Jones to Cast Member

Saturday Night Live hired Pete Davidson as the only new cast member ahead of this season’s premiere, which, apparently, left room for some promotions internally.

Announced yesterday, SNL writer Leslie Jones has made her way to being an official cast member on the show. Jones has already appeared in numerous sketches as well as doing bit of stand-up on Weekend Update.

This leaves you wondering if any more changes are set to come midseason for SNL.
