comedy news, los angeles

1) Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes yet again and hopefully celebrities will learn how to take a joke in stride by now.

2) Jerry Seinfeld on Letterman.

3) Rob Delaney wants your help for his upcoming Comedy Central pilot taping.

4) Don’t miss out on Conan tonight as both Jimmy Pardo and Pete Holmes will be appearing (TBS 11PM) or Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and their chat with Bill Maher (NBC 12:35AM).

5) Though very few people seemed to have notice amidst the chaos of Community being taken away from the midseason NBC line-up, Fuel TV’s talk show, The Daily Habit, regularly featuring some of the funniest up and coming comedians/performers in Chris Fairbanks, Andre Hyland, Hal Rudnick, and more is coming to an end even though they were starting hit their stride comedically with their original characters. It was the only TV show where Rob Delaney got to read his tweets while backed by a band. Did you even know that it was happening?

6) Brendon Walsh just started his own podcast that’s aptly title, we guess, Bonezone.

7) Two hilarious sketches to brighten your day (if you’re into that sort of thing): The Walsh Brothers’ parody of Drive and “Secret Admirer” from Uncle Mom.

8) Comedy variety show, Hamclown, celebrates it’s one year anniversary today. Check out this quick retrospective with the hysterical madness they’ve gone through over the last 12 months.

9) Amazing sketch, music, comedy extravaganza Lost Moon Radio needs a house manager for their next run. Interested?

10) We hate the movie Puss in Boots. We also hate the general ‘family comedy’ business model. Read our explanation for both at the Nerdist.

14) When comedians use their notes on stage and attempt to apologize for it in a funny by saying, “I use my notes because I’m a professional,” what they mean to say is, “I’m so insecure I don’t even realize that I should draw as little attention in how I shouldn’t be reading my notes. Please still love me.” FYI.

1) Jesse Popp on Conan.

2) Two albums that you need to be on the look out for REAL soon: ‘Impregnated With Wonder’ from Pete Holmes (which you can stream in its entirety now), out Nov. 15th and ‘Cardio Mix’ from the Beards of Comedy out the week after that Nov. 22nd.

3) Need some more stuff to submit to? How about the Doritos’ Crash the Superbowl Commercial Contest and The Newport Beach Film Festival (where Matt Walsh’s directorial debut High Road had its world premiere last year)?

4) Well, despite our wishes for the self congratulatory pat-on-the-back that awards telecasts are to become done in private, it is sad that Eddie Murphy dropped out as the host of the upcoming Academy Awards. With Brian Grazer taking the helm, there’s hope yet for the show, but as far as hosts go, it’s a sad state of affairs that there isn’t a clear choice for the gig. Personally, we’d love to see Ron Swanson take over hosting duties.

5) Matt Besser joins the handful size genre of true improv based podcasts by starting improv4humans at Earwolf.

6) I mean, is this the best meme ever or what? [via Paul Scheer]

Yesterday, I tried to start a meme based on this picture.  I think it’s working.

4) Though not strictly comedy, the Los Angeles Film Festival still has the acronym LAFF and it’s in LA, so perhaps you might be interested that they’re currently taking submissions for 2012.

5) Yes, we are, in a sense, and entity, but we do have an actual voice that was captured over the last two weeks on the Respect the Danger of Knives podcast along with our old friend and comic, Russell Corona and then on the Guys With Feelings podcast along with guest Andrea Savage. Our guess is that we probably have less bass in our voice than you probably think we do.

6) Who would win in a fight between the recently released trailers of Project X (some call it the new Superbad) and 21 Jump Street (which should be called, I Can’t Believe That’s Jonah Hill From Superbad)? By the way, can anyone animate trailers into living things?

7) At the core of his proposed lawsuit against Ms. Kardashian, Rob Delaney is aiming even just for a heart and mind of an 18 year old girl in North Dakota.

1) Wendy Liebman on kills it on the Rosie Show.

2) Yesterday, Colin Quinn had a meltdown on Twitter (@iamcolinquinn) calling foul over Will Ferrell winning the Mark Twain Prize for Humor. Unfortunate as it is, it’s the precarious temptation of the craft of comedy to delve into jealousy of where one person is versus another, especially if you’re that “one person”, but take Kyle Kinane’s word for it regarding doing comedy, “You just keep going and going because you’re sick about it.”

3) Thankfully, despite the inevitable wave of Kardashian apologists, Rob Delaney maintains his position of suing Kim Kardashian on MTV News.

4) Whether you were wondering or not, Funny or Die is making their version of a trivia show with Billy Eichner, which, as you might have guessed, talking to complete strangers on the streets of NYC and giving (or not giving) them cash.

5) In the world of political comedy: FoD adds another Michelle Bachmann sketch in their hilarious saga following the wacky congresswoman and deranged millionaire John Hodgman defends the 1% on the Daily Show.

6) Huge news in the world of hosting: Jimmy Kimmel will be the next in line for hosting the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and Jerry Seinfeld can find out ‘what the deal’ is with Kelly Ripa when he replaces Regis Philbin on Live with Regis & Kelly
