The Worst Person In the World (Thankfully) Untangles The Manic Pixie Dream Girl

February 11, 2022
News

The 2021 release The Worst Person In The World from Joachim Trier doesn’t even hint at trying to fit any prescribed genre or sub genre boxes and, along with its wide spectrum of emotional complexity, ends up being one of the more illuminating and hilariously affecting movies in the last few years. Trier’s following of Julie (Renate Reinsve) and her fleeting nature in every aspect of her life shines a bold light on the near impossible nature of love in any way that it has been idealized in any sort of mainstream sense. In a more conventional rom com, Julie might be a foil for the actual love interest because of her unpredictable, flighty, sometimes self-destructive patterns or simply folded into the so-called “manic pixie dream girl” narrative. The Worst Person in the World does more than just fully realize her as a person, but give voice to what has unfortunately become an often infantilizing and reductive stereotype.

Rather than experiencing a character like Julie through the lens of some emotionally immature, but charming enough male protagonist, we, instead, go on her journey through her wavering whims in a quixotic quest to find herself and happiness. No matter how many times she switches up her career or her lovers or her motivations, the movie sticks with Julie, not blaming her for any of her decisions, but merely shows it all to understand (and maybe have some empathy).

It’s too easy to think of someone as the title of this movie and write them off as this towering ex in one’s life for the rest of time. The Worst Person in the World subsequently presents every single character with all their virtues and flaws, hellbent on showing just how complicated love can truly be. Trier dissects the finer points of how everyone in a relationship is involved in its sunrise as much as they are in its sunset. In almost one stroke in the “frozen-in-time” scene(s) when Julie does her version of “running to the airport for love”, you can see how beautiful and cruel love can be at the same time (as well as how absurdly funny the contradiction is).  There are numerous dramas that attempt this (recently Marriage Story, Scenes from a Marriage come to mind), but almost the entire sub-genre of romantic comedy wheels and deals in idealism and desperately avoids how impossible love can actually feel. Lovers and exes all are human and have their pros and cons and The Worst Person in the World shows them as valid whether it be Julie, whomever she’s dating, whomever those people were dating, etc.

Though this clearly isn’t an escapist fantasy in the order of the upcoming I Want You Back or Marry Me, Trier shows off so many tiny moments being smitten with or falling for someone that still make this film so romantic and worthy of a deep laugh from your soul. The genre trappings of sweet embraces and staring into the sunset are very much here in The Worst Person in the World, but just more thoroughly examined. 500 Days of Summer brought a certain level of that to the forefront, but also contributed to the manic pixie dream girl narrative. Trier goes further in that quest for a presentation of love in real life and results in a much more affecting film that ought to be talked about for years to come.

If you’re looking for an answer to how to know how you’re in love, this movie has no answers, but has a damn good time making you laugh at why you’re so obsessed with that question and living your life in reenactments of fiction.

The Worst Person in the World is in theaters in the U.S. now in limited release. Watch the trailer here

Pick of the Day: Hasan Minhaj: The King’s Jester (in NYC 2/25-2/27 & LA 4/24 & 4/26)

February 11, 2022
News
bank of america performing arts center, los angeles comedy, nyc, nyc comedy, radio city music hall, segerstrom center for the arts

Hasan Minhaj’s stellar comedy special Homecoming King came out in 2017 on Netflix, which is awhile ago, but feels even longer for the seemingly interminable amount of time that has made up the last two years. Since that time, Minhaj made his presence known through his very own topical late night comedy show Patriot Act (we’ll always think that was a horrible call on Netflix’s part to cancel it) and then got a key role in the second season of The Morning Show. Oh yeah, he just launched his very own production company 186K Films and is building his own entertainment empire.

We’re thankful that doing stand-up/storytelling on stage is still part of that ascent as Minhaj is currently on tour with his brand new hour The King’s Jester. He’s touring throughout the country, but will specifically be stopping by Radio City Music Hall in NYC from Feb. 25th-27th (tickets for 25th still available) and coming around LA via Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Apr. 24th and Thousand Oaks’ Bank of America Performing Arts Center on Apr. 26th.

Tickets start around $45 and go up from there. You really ought to get them sooner rather than later, especially if you wanna snag ones at that price. Get tickets for all the aforementioned dates at hasanminhaj.com.

Pick of the Day: Ron Lynch Presents Hook Up! The “Tomorrow!” Dating Show (in LA) 2/12

February 10, 2022
News
amber preston, brady novak, dating game, elysian, los angeles comedy, mark fite, randy liedtke, ron lynch, steph tolev, valentine's

OK, if you have to go to something romance or dating themed this weekend because of Valentine’s Day in LA, we’d make sure to tell you about how much of corporate money-grab that Valentine’s Day is rooted in THEN tell you to enjoy one of our all-time favorite shows, no matter what time of year it is, Hook Up!, the dating game edition of Tomorrow! with Ron Lynch.

As far as dating games go, it’s not as wild in the sense of Temptation Island or Too Hot to Handle, but it’s still a crazy, absurd mutation of the classic Dating Game and we have loved it for that very reason for several years. Given our hatred of Valentine’s, it’s one of the only things that we’re looking forward to this weekend (also, we couldn’t care less about the Super Bowl).

Ron Lynch will be presiding as host of the romantic hijinks and chaos and be also joined by the stand-up comedy stylings of Steph Tolev, Brady Novak, Mark Fite, Amber Preston, and Randy Liedtke.

This edition of Hook Up! will go down at Tomorrow!’s new home, The Elysian, this Sat. Feb. 12th at Midnight. Tickets are still only $10 and you best go get them here.

Katrina Davis has not only charmed the LA comedy scene in the years since she moved here, but has become a trailblazer for being one of the first comedians to have both a virtual audience and live audience together at her show. In general, her passion to continue with both in-person and virtual comedy ought to light the way for more stubborn or purist comedians. Here’s the First Full Trailer for Better Things Season 5

February 9, 2022
News
better things, celia emrie, fx, hannah alligood, mikey madison, olivia edward, pamela adlon, season 5, trailer

It’s not enough to say that Pamela Adlon’s Better Things is one of the best comedies on TV during this current Golden Age of Television and the rise of prestige comedies. It’s truly one of the most beautiful shows on TV for how much unfettered humanity it explores, especially in regards to a relationship between mothers and daughters. Also, Adlon has a multi-sensory feast of preparing delicious food on the show, having a great soundtrack, and truly show off LA (or any other city the show visits) in such a luminous way (on top of having iconically hysterical moments) that we believe that this show will stand the test of time.

It’s only a few weeks more until the premiere of the fifth and final season on Feb. 28th on FX (streaming on Hulu), but, in knowing that, these coming days will probably feel so damn long. In the meantime, you can re binge the whole series on Hulu and watch the trailer for this new season.

OK, go ahead and get any and all Back to the Future puns out of your system so you can enjoy the good news that Futurama is being revived once more, this time at Hulu.

Hulu ordered up 20 episodes of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s worthy younger sibling to The Simpsons with the voices of Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr and David Herman all coming back. This will be the 11th season of the show when it premieres next year.

In regards to this revival of the series, which, given that we kind of live in a future we imagined here in 2022, feel so timely, Cohen commented, “I’m thrilled to have another chance to think about the future… or really anything other than the present.” Groening added, “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again.”

So, get out your Fry “shut up and take my money” memes at the ready, especially if you don’t have a Hulu subscription.

In an Era of Truth Telling Comics, Ms. Pat’s Y’all Wanna Hear Something Crazy Is Still Something Wholly Original

February 8, 2022
News
comedy special, ms. pat, netflix, stand up comedy, y'all wanna hear something crazy

Drawing for the marrow, that’s to say, being brutally honest and unfiltered, in stand-up comedy has become commonplace the way that Jerry Seinfeld’s style of observational comedy used to be copied, both knowingly and unknowingly, by comedians by the dozens. Being thoroughly original and also standing out as a truth-teller in the 2020s of something of a feat as there have been countless stories podcasts, albums, specials, solo shows from many a comedian that espouse their wild former or current life. Thusly, the style in which comedians proudly wear their damage or trauma has its own formula that has seen plenty of success, but does feel oversaturated at times.

The idea of a former drug dealer getting on the straight and narrow by way of sharing their life in a humorously distilled sense isn’t even entirely new. Yet, Ms. Pat, former drug-lord-turned-truth-telling-comic, and her hour special Y’all Wanna Hear Something Crazy still feels like a hilariously sobering breath of fresh air.

At 49 years old, Ms. Pat has not only lived more life than most, but she earnestly engages with the current moment in a way that many comedians her age opt out of as a way to feel superior to the younger generations. So many times throughout her stories in Y’all Wanna Hear Something Crazy she boldly shows the many wild colors that her life is painted with, whether it’s talking about getting pregnant as a very young teenager or raising “crack babies”, but also tries her best to not espouse an agenda a la the “back in MY DAY…” angle of a joke. When touching upon class, race, sexual identity, family structure, Ms. Pat always comes back to her very personal experience as specific (and often, so damn blue) it can be, making something that we’ve never really heard or seen before in all of years of consuming comedy.

Even when it feels like she’s getting into dicey territory (your ears might perk up about when she talks about her lesbian daughter), Pat really doesn’t shy away from her own flaws and misgivings, which makes her version of truth-telling beautifully human on top of being just flat out funny.

Ms. Pat: Y’all Wanna Hear Something Crazy is now streaming on Netflix.

Here’s a Welcome to Human Resources, The Otherworldly Workplace Spin-Off of Big Mouth

February 7, 2022
News
big mouth, human resources, netflix, teaser

Hormone Monsters, Shame Wizards, Love Bugs, and more are the workforce in the Big Mouth Cinematic Universe that help guide human thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in the wildly, oxymoronic way that only humans really relish in. They’ve been the lords of both chaos and healing of their assigned humans and the most stand-out part of Big Mouth. As such, Netflix went all in on a spin-off that’s focused on all the magically real creatures that people have come to know and love over several seasons of Big Mouth.

With that in mind, you might want a more formal, “corporate” introduction to them including some brand new folks like “Logic Rocks”, which should be a very fun foil to the extremities of a Depression Kitty or the Anxiety Mosquito. Get your welcome to the most fun version of a Human Resources department here.

Pick of the Day: Improvised Stand-Up with Rory Scovel (in LA) 2/27

February 7, 2022
News
elysian theater, improv, improvised, los angeles comedy, rory scovel, stand up comedy

There are plenty a comedian that try to do, shall we say, comedy alchemy by, ostensibly, taking nothing and making comedy gold out of it. There’s even a long running improv comedy podcast called Alchemy This that seeks out to attempt this feat.

Rory Scovel has made it a mission of his to completely improvise his stand-up sets and, for our money, we think that he has figured it out. His fearlessness in getting abjectly silly and then masterfully dissecting his own flights of absurdity is truly captivating for an hour. All told, it really feels like magic.

So, all of LA, you shouldn’t miss out on Rory’s latest trek into the comedy unknown at the end of this month at The Elysian. Improvised Stand-Up with Rory Scovel is set for Mon. Feb. 27th at 7PM PT. Tickets are only $12 and you best go get them now here.

The Yes, And… Laughter Lab Is Looking for Comedians Who Want to Make a Social Impact

February 4, 2022
News
open call, social justice, submissions

It’ll be a never ending debate as to whether a joke can actual change the world for the better. Certainly, comedy can demonstrably start a conversation (ex. Joe Rogan and disinformation via his podcast). Also, comedians who are also activists can give a comedic bent to their activism (ex. Lizz Winstead and Abortion Access Front/Feminist Buzzkills).

Wouldn’t be it great if that happened more often?

Cue the Yes, And… Laughter Lab, an incubation and training program that seeks out diverse comedy folks that are looking to make a difference in the world with their work. They’re accepting submissions for their program that will offer pitch training, development of whatever comedy project and initiative is accepted, opportunity to connect with philanthropists, social justice orgs, and entertainment industry leaders. Oh yeah, there will be some cash for finalists ($2000) as well.

FYI, applications are due Feb. 18th at 11:59PM ET/8:59PM PT. Finalists will be notified on the week of on Apr. 4th.If you’re intrigued, find out more and apply at yesandlaughterlab.com.

The Omicron edition of COVID-19 really threw a wrench at 100 mph into everything all of us had going in 2021 to really ruin the start of 2022. Nearly every live comedy show that was already back or had planned to be back in that time took another break out of an abundance of caution.

Thankfully, case numbers and hospitalizations have trended down enough that, fingers crossed, things are coming back and that includes some of the best weekly comedy shows that we rely on for our weekly evening shot of community oriented dopamine. Namely, Butterboy with Aparna Nancherla, Maeve Higgins, and Jo Firestone @ Littlefield in Brooklyn, NYC and Good Heroin @ Stories in Echo Park, LA are returning next week and we can only hope that this return sticks.

Specifically Butterboy is posting up back at Littlefield for your favorite Monday night of comedy in NYC at 8PM ET on Feb. 7th and Good Heroin is taking over the back patio at Stories on Feb. 14th at 8PM PT.

You can get your $10 advance tickets for Butterboy here and have some spare bucks to donate for Good Heroin (or enjoy the show for FREE if inflation is getting the best of you).

Even Though You Think You Already Know It All, You Really Ought to Watch “We Need To Talk About Cosby”

February 3, 2022
News
bill cosby, documentary, showtime, w kamau bell, we need to talk about cosby

For how public Cosby’s long, long fall from grace was, it’s easy these days to make a cursory acknowledgment of how he was a monster. That line of thinking really avoids the critical work that society at large needs to do. The system and webs of complicity that allowed Cosby to operate as a deity that took sacrificial tribute in the form of drugging and raping women he desired need to be examined at such a acute degree if we all really want to move forward and never have this happen again.

Thus, it’s pretty crucial that most folks watch W. Kamau Bell’s critical and very important docu-series We Need to Talk About Cosby and his latest work to date (trigger warning to anyone sensitive to very detailed accounts of sexual assault and rape). Bell’s judicious lens painstakingly paints a devastating portrait of a man, who believed he essentially was a god, beyond reproach for any of his actions because his benevolence was plentiful (his legendary comedy career, multi-million dollar donations to HBCUs, advancing representation in entertainment for black people on all fronts, etc.). The level of detail and the wide scope of conversations (with survivors, people who worked on The Cosby Show, experts of all kinds, and, of course, comedians) presented in We Need to Talk About Cosby show that acknowledge the gravity of Cosby’s crimes and betrayal of the public trust he gained that absolutely needs to reverberate and never be forgotten.

The four episodes of We Need to Talk About Cosby accomplish its eponymous goal and digging into answering the age old question of “Can you separate the art from the artist?” and, more importantly, trying to figure out whether we should be separating the art from the artist in the first place.

We Need to Talk About Cosby is now streaming via Showtime.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 97: Erik Abriss & The Actual Good Fight

If you’ve listened to the nearly 100 episodes of The Comedy Bureau Field Report that have been recorded and released, you ought to know that there are an unbelievable amount of forces pushing and pulling at each other underneath the shiny, delightful surface of comedy. As of 2022, there is stil no real union that comedians have largely organized behind and, as such, fairness and equity for labor in comedy is one of its most critical issues (and is connected to inclusivity, access, safety, etc.). Intrepid LA indie comedy producer Erik Abriss and TCB’s Jake Kroeger get into the thick of these intersections of comedy, labor, representation, and really trying to figure some sort of North Star to look for and follow to a better future in comedy.

Yes, that means we talk about Joe Rogan’s mess with disinformation on The Joe Rogan Experience and ignorantly the potentially dangerous level of influence he has on his listeners. Also, “hot” takes on Ali Wong’s new special and Bob Odenkirk and David Cross’ new project.

Pick of the Day: Chris Redd: Why Am I Like This? (in LA) 2/15

February 2, 2022
News
chris redd, dynasty typewriter, los angeles comedy, snl, stand up comedy

Throughout every season of Saturday Night Live, there are bye weeks that allows the cast and writers to, well, do whatever they want. Sometimes, they take some well earned rest, but many of them choose to go back to the things that brought them to the institution that is SNL in the first place.

Thus will be the case when SNL’s Chris Redd returns to LA and headlines Dynasty Typewriter this month with his vibrant and colorful observational stand-up comedy. Redd had been making his way in LA right before he got cast a few years ago (or over a decade ago if you feel like the pre-pandemic times were a very long time ago) and you’ll have a small window here to see him live.

Redd is set for a special evening of stand-up comedy that he’s calling Why Am I Like This? on Tues. Feb. 15th at 8PM PT, thankfully saving us from any residual, forced schmaltz of Valentine’s Day.

Tickets are $25 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Bob Odenkirk and David Cross Reunite to Develop Cult Mockumentary Series “Guru Nation”

February 1, 2022
News
bob odenkirk, david cross, guru nation, paramount plus

(via Deadline)

If you thought With Bob & David would be the work from the legendary comedy duo of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross (since Odenkirk seems more than busy as a highly sought after dramatic actor for both TV and film), then, as of today, you are now wrong.

Odenkirk and Cross, who first rose to fame with their seminal sketch series Mr. Show are teaming up once again, this time to develop a new mockumentary series that follows rival cult leaders leading their zealots to whatever ridiculous ends they dream up (and we have no doubt that they’ll be flat out absurd if this is coming from David Cross and Bob Odenkirk and have Jason Woliner, director of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and Eagleheart attached). We wouldn’t be surprised if they went to the extremes of Jonestown, but done competitively.

We hate to burden you with more reason to make sure you have another streaming service, but, since this is being developed for Paramount +, you just might have to go in for it.

Sunday, February 13th will see Convoy giving three private improv performances for three separate audiences of exactly two people. Not only will you see improv at its highest levels, but the veteran improvisers of Convoy “guarantee” they will strengthen your relationship.

Convoy… for two. will happen at The Yard Theater on Feb. 13th at 9PM PT, 9:30PM PT, and 10:30PM PT and you can (and oh goodness you should) enter here for your chance to win tickets. You have until Feb. 8th to enter and winner will be notified by Feb 10th.

The concept of time remains illusory as the pandemic continues, but, that’s still no excuse to not celebrate the anniversary of something, especially if it’s something forged out of the limitations thrust upon us by COVID-19.

Self Care Comedy is and has been the premier, virtual stand-up comedy showcase whether cases numbers were down or Delta and Omicron had arrived. This Tuesday, February 1st, Naked Comedy/Sam Varela will mark 1 year of being there for everyone who wanted to or had to stay in, for any reason, and give them a much needed relief in the form of virtual comedy from some of the absolute funniest people in comedy today.

To that point, joining Self-Care Comedy to mark their 1 year anniversary will be the beautiful comedy talents of Lizzy Cooperman, Brodie Reed, Max & Nicky, and Mike Hanford with host Sean Keane presiding over the evening’s festivities on Feb. 1st 7PM PT/10PM ET. As always, admission is free, but donations are encouraged as they will go directly to the comics performing. RSVP and donate here.

You’ve Never Seen a Comedian Destroying Heckler Go This Far (Thanks to Ahamed Weinberg and Mekki Leeper)

January 31, 2022
News
ahamed weinberg, chad damiani, comedian destroys heckler, heckler, mekki leeper

With the advent of YouTube and Jamie Kennedy’s documentary, one of the most popular things to watch, especially when it comes to stand-up comedy, is comedians handling unruly audience members heckling them and roasting them into an ash-ridden crisp. You’ve probably gone down a rabbit hole yourself looking up ‘comedian destroys heckler’ videos and lord knows that there are comics out there that have largely made it their brand to annihilate drunk and/or angry people that will not shut up.

The ever clever Ahamed Weinberg and Mekki Leeper “found” themselves at a whole other level of where a comedian destroying a heckler could go, almost like nothing you’ve seen before (mostly because none of the Bourne movies ever start out with a comedian).

Watch and enjoy the craziest heckler destroying a comedian video on IG here.

Get Your First Look at Chris Redd, Langston Kerman, Sam Jay, and Jak Knight in Peacock’s “Bust Down”

News

Though Peacock reported yet another loss for the mega media conglomerate Comcast NBC Universal to the tune of several hundreds of millions of dollars this week, they did also report a healthy subscriber base of 17 million. That’s a pleasant surprise considering they were a late entry into the streaming service game.

Part of that has to do with the sort of content they’ve amassed and put out, perhaps the revival of cult favorite MacGruber being part of that reason. NBC’s streaming service has another card to play in the coming months of 2022 with a brand new comedy in Bust Down. The cast of Jak Knight, Langston Kerman, Sam Jay, and Chris Redd, all rising star comedians through SNL, Big Mouth, Insecure, or maybe even their own show, Pause with Sam Jay, is a selling point all on its own.

The premise of “Four casino employees in a dead-end job in middle America attempt to find self-worth in their bad ideas,” from Luke Del Tredici and Dan Goor could very well be frosting on this cake of a show. It might end up being the sitcom for these late stage capitalist, ongoing pandemic-ridden, climate change ravaged times that makes any and all of us in the thick of struggle feel less alone.

Or, it could be a great vehicle for Redd, Knight, Kerman, and Jay to show off, which we’re also on board for.

Whatever the case may be, get the very first look at Bust Down here, then look for it stream on Peacock starting Mar. 10th.

Pick of the Day: Stand up and Clown (in LA) 2/7

News
ahamed weinberg, anna seregina, babs gray, christina catherine martinez, clown, elysian theater, ify nwadiwe, jessy morner ritt, kyle mizono, los angeles comedy, morgan jay, stand up comedy

It is our firm belief that when the different disciplines of comedy get cross-pollinated that some of the best, most boundary pushing comedy gets made. We also believe that Chad Damiani “live directing” (or ruthlessly roasting) people attempting clown is some of the funniest things we’ve ever seen.

Stand Up and Clown will combine all of that comedy goodness into a crucible of glorious failure and celebratory stupidity. Basically, Damiani, a veteran of the clowning and improv world will do his “live directing” of great stand-up comedians trying their hand at clown.

This first edition has a bunch of wondrous LA comedians that we can’t wait to see under Chad’s gun including:

  • Babs Gray
  • Morgan Jay
  • Christina Catherine Martinez
  • Kyle Mizono
  • Jessy Morner-Ritt
  • Ify Nwadiwe

After Being Postponed Indefinitely Because of the Pandemic, Moses Storm’s Debut Special “Trash White” Has Thankfully Arrived

The form of the comedy special was already going through growing pains before the pandemic and was subject to attempts at deconstruction, mostly out of necessity because of COVID-19. As a result, there are a number of specials without any audience or a Zoom audience or an audience of cars at a drive-in that had never been done before in the entire history of comedy. If you add in the political and cultural turmoil of the last 7 years on top of a desire by comedians and networks/streaming services to reimagine what would a comedy special could be or look like, there’s a lot of forces tugging at what stand-up comedy (in what is often thought of as it’s most pristine form) should be at the present moment.

Moses Storm, as a stand-up, cleverly inserts himself at this cluttered intersection of comedy’s past, present, and future by dealing with his own very own past, present, and future. He goes one step further to examine those intersections on a deeply personal and artistic level in his exceptional HBO Max/Team Coco hour special, Trash White.

Storm artfully, with the golden guiding hand of director Lance Bangs, takes a spirited stroll through his individual memory lane, especially regarding the memories where “crazy beats scary”. “Crazy beats scary” is actually the proposed thesis of the hour, but Moses then cooly tries to play off this debut special as nothing like the hybrid form-defying comedy specials of the last few years or the “modern comedy special” (those solo show comedy specials like Nanette). Moses claims he has no agenda here and isn’t try to espouse any educational value to this carefully thought out and meticulously worked out hour.

This all seems like a trick, and an enjoyably slick one at that. Storm details the systemic effect of poverty and it’s nearly impenetrable cycle in the United States over the last several decades, then relates it to all of his fun and punchy stories of growing up on the fringes of society (especially one with his mother try to stage a winning entry for America’s Funniest Home Videos). There is a self-made clash of expectations and execution on Trash White that espouse a core tenet of Moses’ comedy, the very simple notion that there is more than meets the eye.

The production value of Trash White is far removed from the empty stages that the overwhelming majority of comedy specials fall back on. Moses looks like he’s performing in an art installation and is arguably part of said art installation (the entire stage is painted in stark white and Moses is also donned head to toe in white). There is a rather surprising overhead projection to play clips and have glossy video accents for many of his bits. All this dressing could seemingly be in service of Moses’ proposed intention of not saying anything that’s supposed to change hearts and minds, but, it actually is all the “sugar that makes the medicine go down”.

We got to see Moses work out his hour when he was planning to do it pre-pandemic, then at several times where he tried to do it in between various lockdowns. That required Moses going to arguably insane lengths to prepare at a time where stage time for comedians was not even supposed to exist due to the ongoing transmission of COVID-19. In seeing the finished product, Moses lived true to his premise that “crazy beats scary” and made a special you should definitely go watch and enjoy.

Moses Storm: Trash White is now streaming on HBO Max.

You’ve seen her and been charmed by her take downs of Colin Jost and her wild characters on SNL for weeks now and, we hope like us, that one Sarah Squirm AKA Sarah Sherman has captured your veiny, throbbing, heart.

As her time is currently dedicated to Saturday Night Live, there might not be so much time where you can catch Sarah throw one of her spectacular body-horror-comedy extravaganzas centered around much of her stand-up and DIY multi-disciplinary art. You should really take any chance that you possibly can to catch her and whatever the hell she has up her beautiful patchwork-sewn or hand-painted sleeve.

Sarah will be Live + In the Flesh at NYC’s TV Eye on Fri. Feb 11th for an early 8PM ET & late 10:30PM show. Currently, tickets are sold out, but watch @sarahsquirm on socials closely as there could be tickets released or there be a stand-by line or even another show or shows added.
