Together, John Early and Kate Berlant are a force to be reckoned with.
Their late night debut from last night’s Fallon is a perfect showcase of just that.
Whitmer Thomas, Clay Tatum, Budd Diaz, and Jeramy Ritchie have been dealing in “extreme friendship” as Power Violence for almost 6 years. It’s quite a feat that they’ve pulled off being friends to the extreme for all this time.
So, come celebrate their 6th anniversary on Sunday, February 19th at 8:30PM at The Satellite.
Tickets are $8 and you can (and should) get them here.
This is just more evidence of the brilliant Jo Firestone’s ascent to her rightful place high up in comedy.
Also, we’re glad to see that this sketch was on Fallon and, perhaps, the beginning of a roll back on rubbing Trump’s hair last year.
There are so many great ingredients that are at work here. Called Edison, this project seems to lean towards Roberts taking the bubbly musical elements that he gets to play with on Bob’s Burgers and bringing them into a live action world with the sandbox that HBO allows and the latitude that a dark comedy bent brings.
Oh, we should mention that Roberts’ Bob’s Burgers co-star H. Jon Benjamin is co-writing and also executive producing this project too.
Excited for this possibly being HBO’s next comedy yet?
It has been years even since David Brent made that cameo on the U.S. version of The Office or gave guitar lessons.
Finally, Ricky Gervais has brought back Brent back in full form, trying to live his dream of becoming a music legend in David Brent: Life on the Road. You can get a taste of it with the trailer.
As of today, the long awaited mockumentary is now streaming on Netflix.
One of the wildest talk shows around, The Jesse Miller Talk Show, is having its February 2017 edition back at the Hollywood Improv next Friday.

Jena Friedman Is Set to Write and Direct Her First Feature “Serial Dater”
Comedy multi-hyphenate Jena Friedman is both a crucial voice in comedy and in today’s cultural landscape. Through her stand-up, work on The Daily Show, and way more, Jena has carved out a great niche for her dark, outspoken comedy.
Now, she’s on to making her first feature length film as a writer-director with a stellar cast of Imogen Poots and Timothy Simons. Called Serial Dater, the film will focus on a forensic pathologist who suspects she might be dating a serial killer.
By the way, Jena’s excellent web series that she wrote and directed, Ted and Gracie, is a great quasi-preview of what might come of this project.
You might be familiar with the names Dave Ross and Pat Bishop if you’re a fan of the delightful sketches of WOMEN COMEDY.
Well, Bishop and Ross just released a new short film that’s probably the funniest serial killer comedy that you’ve seen in some time.
If you’re looking for your feel good story of the day, look no further than Amy Hoggart’s report for Full Frontal with Samantha Bee on a handful of Scottish people who have defied Trump’s golf course in Scotland.
In addition to gleaning lessons for future resistance to unjust Trump Administration policies, you also get to see a bunch of Scots curse the hell out of Trump.
It’s pretty damn satisfying all around.

On February 11th at The Glendale Galleria, you have the chance to show up and try out for the renowned bizarro variety show known as The Gong Show that is getting brought back by Will Arnett.

8 years ago, the great Henry Phillips made Punching The Clown, which became a cult comedy about a partially fictionalized version of Henry’s life as a performer.
Now, there’s a sequel.
Punching Henry follows him trying to make it in this new digital age and Murphy’s Law applying every step of the way with cameos from Tig Notaro, Doug Stanhope, J.K. Simmons, Michaela Watkins, and way more. See so for yourself in the trailer.
Look for Punching Henry in theaters and On Demand on February 21st.
One of the longest running indie comedy shows in LA, Blam!Blam!Blam! is celebrating a whole decade run. Most comedy shows, no matter if they’re in a club, theater, house, or the back room of some business don’t make it to anywhere near double digits. Blam pushes on where few comedy shows ever get to go.
The Blam!Blam!Blam! 10 Year Anniversary will be held on Valentine’s Day at its home at R-Bar in K-Town making for a great alternative to doing anything that a corporate mandated holiday would have you do. Also, admission is free. Get more details here.

Even though Toni Erdmann was a rare comedy that managed to be life-affirming at a time when cynicism and sarcasm are key ingredients in comedy, perhaps it being in German (though there is a decent amount of English in it for a non-English language comedy) and nearly 3 hours long made it, very unfortunately, hard for American audiences to go out and watch it.
Wiig and Nicholson are pretty good choices for Sandra Hüller and Peter Simonischek, but we’re going to cross our fingers really hard that the other key creatives adapt Toni Erdmann to English faithfully.

From Burress to 2 Dope Queens to The Improvised Shakespeare Company to Chris Garcia to Jo Firestone Hari Kondabolu to Natasha and Moshe, you’re not going to want to miss comedy at all at this year’s Bonnaroo.
The festival is set to take place from Thursday, June 8th-Sunday, June 11th right at its home in Manchester, Tennessee. Passes start at $324.50.
Seriously, we know that there’s plenty of great music there (Chance The Rapper, Future Islands, Lorde, etc.), but you’d probably regret it if you didn’t catch the comedy too.
Dozens of Literary Agents Are Holding an Open Call for Submissions from Muslim Writers
Normalizing those minority groups that are under threat in these turbulent times is one way to push forward against unjust discrimination. More exposure through TV, film, books, etc. of Muslims will properly inform the American people that they shouldn’t be triggered by the words “Muslim” or “Islam”.
So, literary agent Clelia Gore has compiled an growing list of dozens of literary agents from several different literary agents that will take submissions from Muslim-heritage writers.
With that in mind, we’d love to see plenty of Muslim comedy writers, authors, comedians get to write a book and share their story from this opportunity.
See the full list of agents you can look up and contact if you fall into this category here.
Vulture Made a “100 More Jokes That Shaped Modern Comedy” List
Vulture’s comedy maven Jesse David Fox just made follow-up to their excellent 100 Jokes That Shaped Modern Comedy list in 2016. That list covered a lot of comedy’s heavy hitters throughout the decades of American comedy.
This 2017 list of 100 More Jokes That Shaped Modern Comedy covers more nuances that inform the landscape of the art form of comedy today.
We ought to know as we were lucky enough to contribute to it.
Included in the list are anything from Weird Al Yankovic to Jackie Chan to Dorothy Parker to Sam Kinison to Peanuts to Waiting for Godot to the Masturbating Bear on Conan.
Between both lists, you’ll get one amazing look at the threads that make up the incredibly tapestry that comedy is right now.
Just a friendly reminder that one of the funniest transatlantic comedy series to ever be is returning stateside for its 3rd season on Amazon at the end of April.
Also, here’s a fun set of Q&A with stars and creators Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan.
Bar Lubitsch in West Hollywood is one of our favorite places to see stand-up. A beautiful, intimate back room is the perfect setting for watching some of the funniest people in LA share their comedy wares.
So, Pamela Walt and TJ Chambers are bringing another stacked line-up of Laurie Kilmartin, Tommy Johnagin, Kyle Kinane, Henry Phillips, Andy Wood for this Sunday. Also, for every person in attendance, Chambers will donate $5 to the ACLU. Get more details here.

Chili’s Lifts Permanent Ban on The Office’s Pam Beesly Halpert
Season 2 of the U.S. version of The Office saw Pam Beesly get 86′d from all Chili’s worldwide for drinking other people’s cocktails after she had been cut off during “The Dundies” that Michael Scott was holding for his Dunder Mifflin Scranton employees.
All these years later, well after the series finale, Jenna Fischer posted a pic outside of a Chili’s pondering whether should she go in. In the zeitgeist of opposing bans, Chili’s responded and issued a real press release that nixes the ban on Pam Beesly Halpert from any Chili’s establishments.
It may only be a ban on a fictional character from a series that ended awhile ago that has been lifted, but we’ll take any good news that we can get right now.

Last weekend, Joe DeRosa’s first hour special premiered on Comedy Central. We hope you didn’t miss it as DeRosa delivered a great hour of meticulously crafted, dark stand-up.
That being said, the album version of the special is now available so you can still listen to You Let Me Down if you didn’t see it on TV or you can just have to listen whenever you feel like it (as opposed to waiting for it to air again).
Get You Let Me Down off of iTunes here. Also, it’s streaming on Spotify.
When it comes to poking fun at LA in a song, The Cooties, current Angelenos themselves, nail so much of the Los Angeles milieu in a pretty undeniably funny tune, The L.A. Song.
JASH made a wonderfully animated music video that accompanies every single lyric quite nicely. Watch it here.

One of our absolute favorite podcasts, The Dollop, has just set their official dates for their latest tour across North America, which includes one stop in Reykjavik, Iceland.
While hosts Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds have toured extensively through Australia, this will be the first time that Dave is going to a non-English speaking country really giving some international touring cred to The Dollop.
Also, a second NYC show has just been added FYI.
You can get tickets and the most up-to-date schedule of this tour right here. If you’re aiming to go, you’ll want to get the tickets quick by the way.
When you think of Michael Bolton doing a TV special for Valentine’s Day, there are a certain set of images that come to mind.
However, when you add Comedy Bang! Bang! and The Lonely Island into the mix, you get a sort of doubling down on the man, the myth, and the legend that is Michael Bolton.
See what CBB and The Lonely Island teaming up with Bolton actually looks like in the trailer for Michael Bolton’s Big, Sexy Valentine’s Day Special.
If that already has you going, you can go watch the whole thing on Netflix right now.
