Unlike many comedy retrospectives these days, they’re going to go all the way back to the Ancient Greeks.

CNN is adding to their comedy offerings from United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell by making a brand new historical comedy series, The History of Comedy, that will trace the evolution of comedy as an art form over time and in branching out of genres within it.

Look for the series to debut sometime next year.

No word on who will host it or some of the guests that will be interviewed, but we’d be really surprised if Kliph Nesteroff didn’t fit somewhere int his.

Homer Simpson really did answer questions live this past Sunday on the latest episode of The Simpsons.

Here’s a clip from the East Coast feed, which not only features off-the-cuff, in character answers, but also features plenty sight gags in the background and foreground in case something went awry.

We’d definitely be curious to see if they could pull of a whole episode doing this.

(via Deadline)

We have a feeling that the Jimmys of late night will be battling well beyond 2019.

As part of ABC’s Upfronts presentation, the network announced Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Kimmel Live will remain at ABC through Fall of 2019. The other Jimmy in late night, Fallon, has his contract currently extended through 2021. However Kimmel and Fallon are the current top ratings winners and that, for now, should keep them going in the late night arena for quite some time.

Doug Stanhope’s “Digging Up Mother: A Love Story” Out Now

Descriptions such as honest, dark, and unflinching are often give to Doug Stanhope’s comedy. Much of that is due to his upbringing, specifically with his mother who imparted as much comedy history to him as she did with life experience gained from bringing Doug to an AA meeting.

Digging Up Mother: A Love Story is the story of how Stanhope said goodbye to his singular mother as she came to a point where she didn’t want to live anymore. The sweetness of a sincere valediction gets outfitted in Stanhope’s unfiltered sense of humor for a book that will undoubtedly take you through that wide range of emotions that comedy is capable of encompassing.

You can get your copy of Digging Up Mother: A Love Story now.

It looks like Phil Lord and Chris Miller are really rubbing off on Fox in the best way possible.

Two of the new comedies that were announced at Fox’s Upfronts presentation have Lord and Miller’s hands involved and those just happen to be two very enticing high concept comedies.

One, Son of Zorn, puts an animated He-Man type, voiced by Jason Sudeikis, into the 9-5 grind in the real world with Johnny Pemberton as a son, Cheryl Hines as an ex-wife, Tim Meadows as the ex-wife’s fiance, and Artemis Pebdani as his boss. Here’s the trailer.

The other involves Adam Pally as someone who has a time machine and has abused it. Thus, he enlists an accomplished history professor played by Yassir Lester to fix something he might have screwed up in the American Revolution. Here’s the trailer for Making History.

Both make Fox’s live action comedy line-up have a certain high concept sheen already laid out by Last Man on Earth and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

To round out the new series, Fox has a show that is basically a Sweet Dee from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia standalone series. See for yourself in the trailer for The Mick starring Sweet Dee herself, Kaitlin Olson.

All in all, Fox has a lot of promise with this trio.

Here’s the Trailer for Mike Schur’s New Series at NBC “The Good Place”

Parks and Recreation may be done and gone, but Parks and Rec fans have a new Mike Schur-NBC venture to look forward to this fall: The Good Place.

Set in an afterlife that seems dreamed up by Leslie Knope, Kristen Bell plays a woman who thinks she has ended up in “the good place” by mistake. Ted Danson will guide her around as a mentor-of-sorts in trying to navigate her way around, especially since she recalls not being such a good person. There are plenty of great quirks in this afterlife universe that we can already see as potential great running gags for the series.

We’ll let the trailer take it from there.

Phew.

Plenty of shows got cancelled this past week, which left plenty nervous for any shows whose fate had yet to be decided. Though NBC had axed Mysteries of Laura, Telenovela, Crowded, and Undateable over the last few days, The Carmichael Show hadn’t received word on where they would end up.

Fortunately, they just got the renewal order for a 13 episode 3rd season just a few hours ago and we can rest a little more soundly that one of the few critically acclaimed multi cam sitcoms will be sticking around.
