With Halloween season is in full effect with spooky or adorably spooky decorations abound pretty much wherever you go, why not go catch some great comedy in the perfect Halloween set of a pop-up pumpkin patch complete with “haunted maze”.

Veteran performers of The Pack Theater and founders of new LA comedy collective Bear on a Flag, Elizabeth Hayhurst and Angela McLafferty, are offering up such an evening up in Toluca Lake, specifically at the pumpkin patch by Toluca Lake Flowers. They specifically rented out the pumpkin patch for the show and premium priced tickets include admission to the aforementioned maze as well as a petting zoo.

This edition of their every-once-in-awhile show Where’s The Party? which seems to charmingly float from place-to-place will assemble a very memorable variety line-up including:

Eliza Skinner
Carolyn Racine
Tantrum
Andrew Farmer
Samantha Jane
[REDACTED]
Behemoth

If this is your speed for getting into the Halloween spirit, mark down this Sat. Oct. 22nd starting at 8:30PM for this edition of Where’s The Party? you might want to go get your tickets now, starting at $15 here.

Please Get and Enjoy Eliza Skinner’s Debut Album “Regarding My Lovers”

Many folks in comedy say they are multi-talented or they’d describe themselves as a multi-hyphenate. Yet, few comedians are truly as multi-talented as Eliza Skinner. There isn’t a facet of comedy we can think of that we haven’t seen Eliza excel at in the decade that we’ve seen her go up all over the country. Her comedic expertise stretches through stand-up, improv, sketch, musical comedy, writing, podcasting, puppets, and more and always features her candor and vulnerability in a hilarious way.

Skinner’s debut album, Regarding My Lovers, carefully highlights Eliza’s wide range with very personal stand-up and a handful of original songs recorded in studio that are an epic journey in their own regard. The album title, which is usually a reference to one line in a comedy album or special, is actually quite spot on as Skinner dissects so many of her past relationships and plays specific vignettes of them in hilarious bits. We’ve enjoyed Skinner’s comedy for so long that we are thrilled that she has a full length album out now to really show off everything we’ve said here.

Eliza Skinner: Regarding My Lovers is out today, fresh from AST Records here. You can stream it too on your favorite streaming platform here.

Pick of the Day: Speechless 8/27

News
babs romen, calum grant, Colleen Smith, eddie pepitone, eliza skinner, powerpoint

At this point in time, PowerPoint presentations have been hijacked quite expertly by comedians to all sorts of comedic and satirical mischief. One of SF’s longer running innovative, indie comedy shows, Speechless, is specifically centered on the intersection between comedy and PowerPoint presentation with folks having to improvise an entire presentation with PowerPoint slides that they’ve never seen before.

Chaos abounds, in a very fun way of course, especially when comedians take to Speechless. An upcoming virtual edition on Thurs. Aug. 27th at 7PM PT/10PM ET will actually have Eddie Pepitone, Eliza Skinner, Colleen Smith, and Calum Grant slickly spinning their spiel into whatever their presentation has to be. It’s a fine, fine line-up and we can’t wait to see how they’ll dig themselves out whatever hole they’ll constantly be thrown into.

Tickets are $5* and you can (and should) go get them here.

*A percentage of the proceeds will go to ACLU.

Set List is and has been in rarefied air playing almost every big time international comedy festival and airing as an original TV series on opposite sides of the planet.

It’s such a special show as you get to some of the best comedic minds actually at work conjuring up material from thin air (well, thin air and a never before seen topic).

So, don’t miss the return of Set List to LA at the Hollywood Improv this Friday with some of their personal favorites. Tickets are $10 (plus 2 item min.) Go get your tickets here.

Disney+ Will Have a Talk Show Hosted by a Blue Alien Puppet “Earth to Ned”  from Jim Henson Co.

Disney+ Will Have a Talk Show Hosted by a Blue Alien Puppet “Earth to Ned”  from Jim Henson Co.

We so enjoyed No, You Shut Up! with Paul F. Tompkins, we were curious when puppets mixing it up with real folks would pop up once again some sort of talk format.

Disney+ is taking up that niche by doing their version of a talk show with a blue alien puppet (that looks much much friendlier than another blue alien talk show host Gorburger). The alien is one that becomes obsessed with pop culture and, thus, interviews actual celebrity guests.

While all of that is well and good and the combo of puppets and real people is always fun, we’re truly excited to know that the one and only Eliza Skinner is the head writer and co-EP of this new Disney+ talk show, Earth to Ned. There is a lot of ways this show could go, but we feel pretty good about Earth to Ned being in the trusty hands of both Eliza and the Jim Henson Co.

With the horrific damage that the fires took on California, there are plenty of big, fantastic benefit shows coming up that will raise money for victims of said fires.

This includes:

Judd & Adam & Friends @ Largo at the Coronet Theatre Fri. Dec. 14th 8PM (currently sold out)

Holidaze! @ Dynasty Typewriter Fri. Dec. 14th 7PM, $15 in adv., $20 at door

The Comedy Store Festival @ Fonda Theatre Sat Dec. 15th 8PM $46-$131

If you can swing it, you should go to all of them as they’re all very stacked line-ups and, in the spirit of the holidays, it’s a great opportunity to give to people very much in need.

This includes:

Robert Buscemi taping an hour @ Lyric Hyperion Fri., Nov. 24 9PM FREE w/RSVP
Half hours from Dan Telfer, Brandie Posey, Lisa Curry, and Kyle Clark @ The Clubhouse 9PM Sat. Nov. 25 FREE
Half hours from April Richardson & Eliza Skinner @ UCB Franklin Sun. Nov. 26th 11PM $5
