Pick of the Day: Kimberly Clark Taping (in LA) 4/19

March 18, 2024
News
aspecialthing, ast records, kimberly clark, live taping, los angeles comedy, stand up comedy

Here’s another taping that’s long overdue. Kimberly Clark has long since been a treasure of the LA comedy scene as a comedian that can always be counted out for good, calming spirits and even better punchlines. We’ve actually known and loved Clark for all the time that we’ve ran TCB and it’s kind of a thrill that she’s finally getting to put her jokes on wax.

Come Friday, April 19th, Clark will be doing a full length album taping for the venerable aspecialthing Records at Lyric Hyperion. You’ve got two chances to be part of the recording with an early 7:30PM and a late 9:30PM show. Clark will be joined by other faves of ours, Paul Danke, Clark Jones, and Maggie Maye.

Tickets are only $5 for this taping, so just go get a pair already! Do so here.

Pick of the Day: Blam! Blam! Blam! (in LA) 12/14

Yet another touchstone LA comedy show returns on this side of the pandemic. Truly, we just had no idea who or what was going to survive when March 2020 came to pass. There was a point at which we, and so many others, legitimately thought that perhaps none of it would come back. We continue to thankful for the instances where some of our favorite things in comedy have survived and are making a big, big comeback.

One such thing is another one of the LA comedy scene’s longest running comedy shows, Blam! Blam! Blam!, the monthly institution at K-Town’s super cool R-Bar is making its first official show since lockdown happen right at the end of 2021. For years, we loved spending a late night on Tuesdays at 3331 W. 8th St. with Paul Danke at the helm and a beautiful mix, curated by DeMorge Brown, of stand-ups, characters, and the always mind-bending surprise from Davey Johnson.

This return of Blam! Blam! Blam! has all of its favorites including:

James Adomian
Lizzy Cooperman
James Fritz
Nana the Cat Lady
Kimberly Clark
Anna Seregina
Jamel Johnson
Daniel Webb
Tom Waits

Don’t miss out this Tues. Dec. 14th. Get there at 9PM PT if you want street parking to be slightly less difficult.

Pick of the Day: Laughs for LLS 4/18

atsuko okatsuka, brad wenzel, debra digiovanni, fundraiser, kimberly clark, leukemia lymphoma society, mk paulsen, Troy Walker

A line-up of Debra DiGiovanni, MK Paulsen, Kimberly Clark, Atsuko Okatsuka, Troy Walker, Brad Wenzel, and hosts Lynn Maleh and DJ Paul Antonio is such a fantastic, wide-ranging, hysterical collection of comedians from wire-to-wire that’s very much worth good money, end of story. Just take our word for it if you’re worried about what their “credits” might be.

This coming Sunday, April 18th, you’ll get a chance to see this crackling line-up from wherever you are during this pandemic and you get the added bonus of supporting the critical work of the LLS (Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) that has been fighting blood cancer around the world since 1949 via Chelsea Derkacz’s Woman of the Year Fundraiser.

Laughs for LLS will go live on Sun. Apr. 18th at 5PM PT/8PM ET. Tickets are going for $20 and you can (and very much should) go get them here.

Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready Season 2 Gives a First Look

You might have noticed that the flow of brand new comedy specials hasn’t been the way that it used to be early on in 2019. A lack of new specials and a drying up of networks and streaming services’ comedy special reserves have made it so that we don’t even necessarily get a new special every week. That’s just the way things are due to the pandemic and that will just have to be that way for a while longer.

That being said, there’s still specials to be enjoyed, namely the latest edition of Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready. There’s a whole second season lined up featuring comedians handpicked by Haddish herself to highlight. That includes Kimberly Clark (a long time personal favorite of ours), Erin Jackson, Godfrey, Tony Woods, Barbara Carlyle, and Dean Edwards (not to mention the joyful grace of Haddish presenting the whole series).

See for yourself what’s to come with They Ready Season 2 with this very first trailer here, then look for it to start streaming on Netflix on Tues. Feb. 2nd.

Ahamed Weinberg will be a name that you’ll probably be seeing more of soon (and not just because we keep posting about him). Having just got New Faces at JFL Montreal, Weinberg has also really honed his skills as a comedic filmmaker that we routinely enjoy.

Here’s his latest work, “Lump”.
