Pick of the Day: Golden Girlz: Prostitution Whores (in LA) 8/19-8/28

August 5, 2022
News
drew droege, jackie beat, sam pancake, sherry vine

Of the tickets that are hardest to snag in LA comedy, one of them has to be whenever The Golden Girlz does a run at the Cavern Club Theater downstairs at Casita Del Campo.

For the uninitiated, this is probably the peak of what camp can be in comedy as Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, Drew Droege, and Sam Pancake take on, with loving abandon, the iconic roles played by Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Betty White, and Estelle Getty in the iconic sitcom, The Golden Girls.

For years, their camp reimagining of the show sold out so quick. Thankfully, this latest round of The Golden Girlz that will play on the weekends from Aug. 19th-28th at Casita Del Campo still have some tickets available. Rustle up $40 and pick a show or shows of either 8PM or 10PM on Fridays or Saturdays or 3PM, 7PM, or 9PM on Sundays.

Don’t wait. Go get them right here right now before they all sell out per usual.

Pick of the Day: The Golden Girlz LIVE! The Return (in LA) 7/9-7/25

News
drew droege, golden girlz, jackie beat, sam pancake, sherry vine

Back in the before times, one of the hottest tickets in town was for The Golden Girlz, a loving, modern, camp spin on the legendary sitcom The Golden Girls done by the brilliant cast of Jackie Beat, Sherry Vine, Drew Droege, and Sam Pancake. It was always sold out whenever it had its run at the Cavern Club Theater at Casita Del Campo in Silverlake.

After what seems like a decade, the Golden Girlz are back for a big run throughout all of July. Specifically, they’re running from July 9th-25th, Fridays at 9PM PT + Saturdays & Sundays at 3PM PT/6PM PT/9PM PT at Cavern Club Theater.

Several dates are already sold out and you best get your tickets, starting at $40, right now right here.

You may not get to do trick-or-treating or endless party-hopping, but you can tune in what might be the perfect comedy thing for this Halloween season. They describe it as:

Mere days before Salem’s 10th Annual Harvest Festival, something strange happens that derails the big day and makes everyone start to question if there could be a witch among them. If you’ve ever wondered what THE CRUCIBLE meets THE OFFICE but very gay would be like, SALEM is your answer.

Supported by many of the very best comedy folks from all over the country including: Mary Beth Barone, Carmen Christopher, Drew Droege, Robby Hoffman, Molly Kearney, Langston Kerman, Marty Miller, Aparna Nancherla, Larry Owens, Rachel Sennott, Karolena Theresa, Sydnee Washington, and Ben Wasserman

(via Deadline)

One of Drew Droege‘s latest works, a solo show Happy Birthday Doug, might be one of the best pieces yet from the comedian/actor/storyteller/professional Chloe Sevigny impersonator. We were lucky enough to catch Droege throw this up at Dynasty Typewriter and truly dazzled at Droege cleverly and deftly playing every character at a hysterically, disastrous 41st birthday of the titular character.

Droege managed to have an exclusive performance of Happy Birthday Doug taped by before lockdown and now, it will now go to streaming as a special on the BroadwayHD streaming service on Thurs. Sept. 24th.

We’ll keep you in the loop about when it does start streaming as this will be your latest chance to great theater that was captured right before lockdown happened.

Your Late Night Show Tonight, the monthly late night show that gets cleverly reshaped by each one of their great guest hosts, is back again with beloved comedian/writer/actor Drew Droege set as host. Droege has honed his comedy through almost every discipline and dazzled us with his solo show/play Happy Birthday Doug where he played so many troublesome guests at a birthday party all by himself.

Droege, along with the Your Late Night Show Tonight team, will dream up a wondrous new late night show, exactly how Drew would like it to be, that will be live-streamed at The Pack Theater’s Twitch Channel, and will feature a very special guest in comedian Fortune Feimster.

Your Late Night Show Tonight with Drew Droege is set for July 10th at 10:30PM PT/1:30AM ET, again, at The Pack Theater’s Twitch Channel. You can watch for FREE and donations will be accepted.

This Thursday, you might want to make your way up to Highland Park to spend an evening in the gorgeous Owl Bureau as esteemed comedian/actor/playwright Drew Droege will be gathering the likes of other funny luminaries including James Adomian, Bryan Safi, Sam Pancake, and Marc Anthony Samuel for a special evening of reading “lady monologues”.

Frankly, this evening, called NightOwl has a line-up that we’d probably watch do a live reading of almost anything.

This brilliant play/solo show Happy Birthday Doug has Drew Droege as the titular character Doug, who is desperately trying to celebrate his 41st birthday amongst some “friends”. In fact, Drew plays Doug as well as all the other characters in a series of interconnected monologues that hilariously play off each other so well.

When we caught this, it was packed at Dynasty Typewriter, so you best get your tickets here for this latest performance, also at Dynasty Typewriter, on Tues. July 23rd at 8PM before they sell out again. Tickets are $20 now and $25 on the day of.

As you might have seen on Barry, acting classes and workshops can be, well, a bit much (especially when it comes to the egos crashing into each other around the room).

The wonderfully talented pairing of Drew Droege and Sam Pancake (The Golden Girlz) are taking that idea to the next level by putting on an “acting workshop” with Droege playing a taskmaster of head of said “acting workshop/mixer” and Pancake as a “intern/proctor/star student” that will show you “how to make it in the biz”.

In fact, they even go so far as to request, if in attendance, that you “Please bring a CURRENT headshot with resume CUT AND STAPLED on the back,” and, “Please wear audition-ready clothing and prepare to move.”

Also, this night is called We Are Special Bitches, which would hopefully seal the deal for you to head to the Cavern Club Celebrity Theatre at Casita Del Camo in Silverlake later this month.

Tickets are $20 and you best get them here before it sells out.

Heather Anne Campbell as Sec. Hillary Clinton
Seth Morris as Gov. Lincoln Chafee

Both Droege and Periods. They’re looking to crowdfund $15K by Mar. 22nd on Indiegogo and are at $4,960 as of this post.

Here they are with more details as to why you should support what could be a great and important show.

Also 2% of the funds raised in the campaign will go to The Human Rights Campaign.
