The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 74: Julie Seabaugh & 9/11 Jokes

August 25, 2021
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
9/11, 9/11 jokes, brody stevens, comedy documentary, julie seabaugh, sept. 11th, too soon

For our money, Julie Seabaugh is the preeminent comedy journalist out in the world and we’re so lucky to have her on TCB Field Report this week. Her expertise and depth of comedy knowledge are so far reaching, which came in quite handy for the upcoming documentary she co-directed, Too Soon: Comedy After 9/11. As such, we talk about the effect 9/11 had on comedy and, conversely, how comedy’s healing properties dealt with the aftermath (not unlike what’s happening right now). Also, “hot” takes on SF Sketchfest returning, Showtime’s updated comedy slate, and Brody Stevens Day.

Follow Julie on IG @julieseabaugh, get more info on Too Soon: Comedy After 9/11 (premiering on Vice on Sept. 8th) at toosoondoc.com and get a Brody Stevens pin from Rockin Pins here.

1) Louis C.K. honoring George Carlin.

2) Here’s a trailer for Marc Maron: The Voice of Something, a documentary by Jodi Lennon following Marc Maron in NYC right after 9/11. Basically, you’re going to watch it whenever it comes out.

3) Bradley Fojas claims the following video is a waste of five and a half minutes of your life. Maybe it is, but at least it’s hysterical.

4) Tonight on the late night circuit, Aubrey Plaza will be on Conan (TBS 11PM) and Don Rickles will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live (ABC 12AM).

5) He hasn’t tweeted yet, but I’m sure James Adomian will be hilarious on Twitter. Follow @JAdomian.

6) Drew Droege’s Chloe Sevigny needs a vacation…

7) Read Taki Magazine’s much more elaborate plea for comedians to make jokes and not apologies than the ones we wrote for Laughspin (who they sort of throw under the bus) here and here.

8) Patton Oswalt gets a B+ from the A.V. Club for his Finest Hour.

9) There will be no more Ultimate Free & Cheap LA Comedy List from Wisepix.com because Wisepix.com has discontinued as a site. Please check here for all your LA comedy show listings.

10) Puddin’-“New Puppy”

11) COMEDY CRAWL
