Kurt Braunohler Is Taping His First Hour Special for Comedy Central Next Month

Kurt Braunohler indeed is taping an hour long stand-up special for Comedy Central. Called Trust Me, he’ll be taping it in Portland, OR at Revolution Hall on Saturday, September 24th.

Given his skywriting, jet skiing, driving a giant butt cross country, and other such large scale acts of absurdity, we personally can’t wait to see what Kurt does with an hour of stand-up on national television.

If you can go, you should go and you can get free tickets here.

‘The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore’ Canceled By Comedy Central

The post-Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert era for Comedy Central’s late night line-up has proven beguiling. Aside from @midnight with Chris Hardwick, reception for Trevor Noah as the host of The Daily Show has been mixed and, apparently, ratings for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore have not been what Comedy Central brass was hoping for.

Thus, The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore is no more and Comedy Central is on the hunt for a new 11:30PM show. There is no indication as what that show might be or who they might be going after, but, like it was when Colbert left for The Late Show, Comedy Central has another chance to break even more new ground here if they choose wisely.

With the election looming in November, we’d be curious to see if something might get fast tracked just to not miss out debates, election day, etc.

Almost a score ago, some foul mouthed kids from Colorado started a revolution. For the most part, that revolution was a bunch of people trying to imitate Cartman saying “Respect my authoritay!!” as well as deep dive down the satirical minds of Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

In 2016, they’re still keeping all of that alive in South Park and the promo for the newest season pays tribute to that.

Season 20 of South Park premieres Wednesday, September 14th on comedy Central.

The Comedy Central web series version of Ian Abramson’s brilliant show 7 Minutes in Purgatory, where comics do a set while separated from a live audience and can’t hear their laughter while that audience can watch remotely, is finally here.

With Comedy Central footing the bill, Ian got a truck outside of the venue to sequester the performers away from the audience so there is absolutely no way that the comedians can hear the audience (on top of noise cancelling ear protection).

Watch what happens when you stick Nick Vatterott…

…host Ian Abramson…

…Dave Hill…

…musician and fun extraordinaire Dan Deacon…

…and sketch group Wham City get stuck in the back of a truck and try to do comedy.

It’s a good sign for a topical comedy show when they can show a tonal flexibility to examine a very serious topic in a very sobering way, then bring it back to a great joke.

That’s what Not Safe with Nikki Glaser did when covering the topic of rape on college campuses, along with an assist from Garbage Time’s own Katie Nolan and the great Ron Funches.

The Daily Show to Have Politically Themed Carnival Games at Republican National Convention

The Daily Show is really going all out this election year.

On top of a week of coverage at both the DNC and RNC, having exclusive Snapchat content, and integrating Amazon’s Alexa into their coverage, one of the most exciting things that The Daily Show with Trevor Noah will be doing is an actual carnival at this ‘carnival’ of a presidential election.

Specifically, at The Republican National Convention next week in Cleveland, Comedy Central will have a whole set of carnival style games that are inspired by the insanity of the campaign trail this year.

This includes:

-RUN FOR THE BORDER: As the marquee activation, “Run for the Border” offers attendees a chance to put their political passion to the test with an interactive game that’s fun for everyone. The activation is oriented in front of an expansive digital projection and features a row of seats equipped with hand controls that propel on-screen avatars in a race to the nearest border.
-THE HALL OF NOT PRESIDENTS: Puts a political spin on fun house mirrors, featuring a hallway full of satirical hairstyles and pantsuits, commonplace to the political landscape.
-THE YUUUGE WALL: Bringing the issue of border control to life with a literal huge wall installation. Complemented by politically-inspired graffiti penned by Cleveland-based artists, participants will also have the chance to leave their own mark.
-GRAB-A-DELEGATE: Participants compete for bragging rights by stepping into a glass wind machine booth and tasked to grab as many paper props as they can (think faux “dirty money” and one nominee’s “deleted emails”).
-HOT BUTTON ISSUES: This whack-a-mole inspired game gives players a fun way to drop the proverbial (foam) hammer on politics and punditry antics, from gun control to climate change to immigration.
-THE DAILY SHOW DESK: The best seat in the house! Positioned as a lounge area with a full-sized replica of Trevor Noah’s “Daily Show” desk, this activation is designed for shareable photo moments as attendees can snap photos from Noah’s chair.

We’re guessing this will be one of the least crazy things that will be at the RNC.

Comedy Central Is Roasting Rob Lowe, a Person Who Is in Comedy and Not at All a Controversial Figure

June 9, 2016
Uncategorized
comedy central, roast, rob lowe

Finally, Comedy Central is getting back to the original roots of comedy roasts with making it about “the ones we love”.

Donald Trump, David Hasselhoff, Justin Bieber, and Charlie Sheen have been the “guests of honor” of Comedy Central’s roasts over the last five years. Roasting those folks is more of an excuse to have YouTube comments get rewritten by professional comedians, who may or may not personally know who they’re roasting, and have that well-crafted hate dished out to those who are hated by a good percentage of people. That line-up is a far cry from the Dean Martin roasts that really put “roasting” on the map as a televised event where beloved celebrities with a sense of humor were roasted by many that were closest to them.

So, it’s great to hear that Rob Lowe, formerly of Parks and Recreation and is a very beloved celebrity, will be the focus of the latest Comedy Central roast. Let’s hope the dais includes something like Aziz Ansari, Jimmy Kimmel, Amy Poehler, etc.

Comedy Central Orders “Corporate” from Matt Ingebretson, Jake Weisman, and Pat Bishop to Series

(via Deadline)

Workplace comedy is about get taken to a more wonderfully dark place than it probably has ever been.

If you’ve enjoyed WOMEN Comedy at all like we’ve done all these years, you’d know that Comedy Central ordering a workplace comedy series from two of the four members of WOMEN Comedy, Jake Weisman and Pat Bishop, and the very darkly funny Matt Ingebretson is something to celebrate, even if you’re by yourself right now.

The series is called Corporate and will star Jake and Matt as two junior executives that do the dirty work for their bosses at a gigantic corporation called Hampton DeVille. Pat took on directing the pilot and we can only imagine that he’ll continue behind-the-scenes (and probably cameo from time-to-time) like he’s done for so many of their sketches over the years.

We’d guess that it might be akin to one of our favorite WOMEN sketches, Hour Long TV Drama.

Another Period’s Season 2 Trailer Gets More ‘One-Percent-ier’ Than Ever

If there’s a takeaway from the trailer from the brand new season of Comedy Central’s Another Period, it’s probably to never challenge the outrageously wealthy to be more outrageous, especially in The Gilded Age.

The Bellacourts will see your challenge for this second season and raise you as much havoc as they can afford and then some as they probably have some more money stashed away somewhere or can marry into more wealth.

See for yourself in the season two trailer here.

Look for the series premiere in two weeks on Wednesday, June 15th at 10PM on Comedy Central.
