‘Drunk History’ Gets a Season 7 and Comedy Central Signs First Look Deal with Co-Creator Derek Waters

Quietly, Drunk History has now become one of Comedy Central’s longest running series. Starting out as a full-fledged TV series in 2013, Derek Waters and Jeremy Konner’s hybrid unscripted-sketch-variety series has now run so long that it’s on its way to the upper echelons of Comedy Central’s long running programming alongside the likes of Dr. Katz and the early seasons of MST3K.

Of course, Waters’ brilliant edutainment (that has spawned countless “inspired shows” or straight rip-offs) definitely deserves to go as long as Waters and Konner want to keep it going. Also, Comedy Central’s smart to keep Derek Waters around to see what else his delightful brain might want to develop.

The success and longevity of Drunk History with Derek Waters and co. often makes us wish that his show existed back when we were studying history in high school and college.

Per usual, there are great drunk folks including Duncan Trussell and Brian Tyree Henry and exquisite reenactments lipsync’d to the drunk storyteller.

Get your taste of all of that with this trailer and look forward to Drunk History: Season 6 Pt. 2 on Comedy Central on Tues., June 18th.

Even though the word “drunk” is in the name, Drunk History is a well oiled machine going into its sixth season on Comedy Central.

A cavalcade of funny people get wasted and try to recount an important person and/or event in history, then a lip-synched, word-for-word reenactment is attempted. Look for the season 6 premiere of Drunk History on Tues., Jan. 15th at 10PM on Comedy Central.

One of the original and go to narrators for Drunk History is Mark Gagliardi. Thus, what would this latest season be without him attempting to recount an oft-overlooked annal in history if not incomplete.

Mark sure came through with the story of Bass Reeves, a man of such Wild West legend that a fictitious legend was based off of him, as well as professions of love, lying face down on the floor, etc.

The story of chess prodigy Bobby Fischer playing against Russian chess champion Boris Spassky is already incredulous without embellishment, especially the type coming from a person who is under the influence of some substance.

So, it only stands to reason that a silly, drunk Rich Fulcher would tell one of the best versions of the story accompanied by Taran Killam as Bobby Fischer and Jake Johnson as Boris Spassky while he seems like one of the drunker narrators that has been on Drunk History. This should serve as a great appetizer or dessert for watching Pawn Sacrifice.

Watch how Fischer beat the Russian chess grandmaster as well as how Rich made it through the story.
