Sarah Silverman Wants to Connect with Un-Like-Minded People in Her Topical Hulu Show “I Love You, America”

Commenting on the upcoming show at the TCAs today, Silverman wants to make a point of trying to engage and connect with people that aren’t anywhere near her perspective, ideologies, and attitudes.

While other shows in late night do try that approach from time-to-time, it would seem that they will be a central tenet of “I Love You, America”.

Silverman might just pull off what Russell Brand’s Brand X ultimately could not if executed correctly.

Sarah Silverman’s Weekly Topical Show “I Love You, America” Premieres on October 12th on Hulu

Sarah Silverman’s Weekly Topical Show “I Love You, America” Premieres on October 12th on Hulu

This is an important date for a few reasons.

One, Sarah Silverman will return to having her own TV show.
Two, talk shows/topical/late night get tipped more in the direction of diversity.
Three, this will be the second recurring topical/talk show (Chelsea on Netflix being the other one) on a major streaming service (unless you want to count Norm MacDonald Live on JASH in as well) with A-list talent attached to host.

These are all important points to keep in mind, but we’re curious to see if Sarah might twist the traditional format of all other talk/topical shows.

Sarah Silverman’s “A Speck of Dust” Now Streaming on Netflix

Following up We Are Miracles, the title to Sarah Silverman’s latest special seems to naturally progress some sort of greater, existential theme as it’s called A Speck of Dust.

That being said, Silverman has brought her signature blue cleverness to a more personal level on this special than she has in the past. A brush with almost dying adds some more gravitas throughout the hour and the closer, in an age where notable closing jokes in specials are becoming increasingly rare, is pretty spectacular.

A Speck of Dust is streaming now on Netflix.

Also, Sarah made this devilishly mischievous promo for it.

Trump has let the states decide whether they want to defund Planned Parenthood or not. So, now, so many people are stepping up to have the back of Planned Parenthood.

So, to support the cause, a special collector’s box set of vinyl records featuring the comedy of Sarah Silverman, Aparna Nancherla, Jenny Slate, Margaret Cho, Tig Notaro, Janeane Garofalo, Pete Holmes, and Zach Galifianakis in addition to music from some of the musicians around like St. Vincent, Sleater-Kinney, Björk, Matt Berninger, Elliott Smith, Sharon Van Etten, Mitski, Feist, and Chvrches will be released soon. All of the comedy comes from Largo’s archives by the way.

Also, we like that the folks behind this project made this note:

Do we know there’s a joke in the name? We do. We hope the title evokes the rich history of 7-inch vinyl records as a medium for protest music and resistance.

Pre-sale date has yet to be announced, but you can get more info here.

Hulu Orders Topical Weekly Show with Sarah Silverman from Funny Or Die

We’re curious to see where this will go as Sarah Silverman is definitely politically active and will be going for a show that’s balanced inviting other perspectives, beliefs, etc. to have a conversation with her.

We’re guessing that’d go much differently than it does on Real Time with Bill Maher, especially because of the fact that it’s called “I Love You America”. Also, if you’ve ever seen Sarah do crowd work multiple times, you’d notice that her curiosity does indeed lead her down a path of trying to hear people out.

10 episodes have been ordered from Funny or Die and a premiere date has yet to be announced.

At the beginning of the year, San Francisco always has one of the biggest comedy festivals in the world, SF Sketchfest.

Just announced today, SF will be getting another giant comedy festival in the summertime, specifically June 2nd-4th, brought to you by Comedy Central.

The first ever Clusterfest has a gigantic line-up of the sort proportions and depth that Comedy Central can summon. It’s also the flip of most big time music and arts festival in that it’s mostly comedy with a bit of music as opposed to there being a comedy tent and lots and lots and lots of music a la Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, etc. (Note: producers of both those festivals are involved here). See the line-up below or in this glitterbomb filled announcement video here.

Tickets/passes go on sale this Thursday, March 2nd here. They range from $199.50 earlybird pass-$599.50 VIP Pass.

Sarah Silverman Will Now Be Doing a Netflix Comedy Special

Well, Netflix now has quite the stacked deck for 2017. Following from Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and Amy Schumer,

Sarah Silverman is the latest big name comedian to have done their last comedy special at HBO and is set to do their newest special at Netflix. Silverman will shoot her special soon and Liam Lynch will be directing along with JASH, which she co-founded, producing.

We’re are thoroughly intrigued, given how outspoken Sarah has been in the political spectrum and the times that we’re living in now, what exactly she will do with this new special.

Directors Lloyd Stanton and Paul Toogood extensively interviewed all of the above and made what might be another documentary that showcases stand-up as being more than just a bunch of clowns rattling off jokes every night.

Looks like that Adult Swim model is more popular than ever.

Looking to expand into more comedy-centric or comedy-adjacent programming, The History channel is adding more programming on top of Join or Die with Craig Ferguson.

Night Class will be a late night block, not unlike Adult Swim on Cartoon Network. The block will include Great Minds with Dan Harmon (Dan travels in a time machine to visit history’s greatest minds as played by Jack Black, Aubrey Plaza, Paul F. Tompkins, Thomas Middleditch, Sarah Silverman, and more), Crossroads of History (Elizabeth Shapiro highlights some of the more unbelievable, less talked about moments in history featuring Jack McBrayer, Wayne Knight, Lloyd Ahlquist, and more), and How to Lose the Presidency (a panel revisits how certain candidates committed campaign suicide).

We’ll all actually get to see how Night Class feels next week when it premieres Feb. 25th at 11:30PM.
