The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 109: Alice Hamilton & Shots Fired

April 27, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
alice hamilton, cex kriminal, chris d'elia, stand up comedy

Though roasting in comedy has taken on a new chapter via the Comedy Central Roasts and Roast Battle, it’s rare to see actual fury channeled into comedy. It has also even been rarer that the predators and monsters within comedy are held accountable in a meaningful way. Alice Hamilton, a rising comedian in the LA scene, struck both rare chords with her self-produced and self-released half hour special CEX KRIMINAL, which goes for the jugular, in great detail, of all the alleged and confirmed pests/predators/pieces of trash that she can think of.

We have Alice on to talk about how she came to put all of this together in the matter of a few weeks (or days if you ask her) and what such a special means in the art form of comedy.

Follow Alice @alicerhamilton on Twitter and @missalicehamilton on IG and watch CEX KRIMINAL here.

Fahim Anwar has climbed his way up the stand-up comedy ladder over the last few years, getting to the point of getting to do stand-up on late night regularly.

At this point, Fahim also wants to bring his alter ego, the dance crazed Lance Cantstopolis to where he is. Already, he has gone on stage, fully in character, denim, dancing, and all, and has done pretty well for himself. Just look at the documentary, Outta Nowhere, Fahim made for Lance that has Jeff Ross, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Bobby Lee, Chris D’Elia, and Neal Brennan all talking him up.

Watch and judge for yourself how close Lance and Fahim really are.

With SNL, musical specials, and now Undateable, NBC is really going for broke with these live-to-air shows.

Tonight at 8PM, things might just go really off the rails in a great way on NBC as the cast of Undateable, which includes the likes of Ron Funches, Brent Morin, Rick Glassman, Chris D’Elia, Bianca Kajlich, and David Fynn, embarks on its 3rd season completely live.

Hopefully, the cast, most of which are stand-ups, will get to get as weird as they want.

“Apparently”, Nate Fernald Was “Cut Out” of What Should Be Called “WTF with Marc Maron and Nate Fernald”

As it “turns out”, the very funny Nate Fernald has been “co-hosting”, then subsequently “cut out” of every episode of WTF with Marc Maron.

Even if you’re a longtime listener to WTF, you might not even be aware that Marc and a guest are “ignoring” a co-host, Nate Fernald, the whole time.

Fernald was gracious enough to dig up an unedited episode featuring guest Chris D’Elia and none of Nate being cut out. Listen here.

After the cancellation streak NBC had several weeks ago, Undateable comes through to get a 2nd season.

So, you’ll get to see more of Brent Morin, Rick Glassman, Ron Funches (who you might remember from his Tonight Show set earlier today), and Chris D’Elia on your TV and the side of your local buses.

1) I couldn’t get into ASSSSCAT last night at the UCB as there was over 100 people waiting along Franklin Ave. to watch live comedy.  Great for live comedy in LA, for me, well…. Either way, I headed down to Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, which is something you’ll hear more about later today (yes, that means a review) and a comedy institution (an independent stand up show that’s on its 4th year running) you should never miss.  Also, I’m going to take a break from some of my normal tendencies and be positive on some thoughts on where the LA comedy scene is headed.

2) In promoting his new book Zombie Spaceship Wasteland, Patton Oswalt had the following to say to Huffington Post Comedy.  Oh yeah, you should really check out Zombie Spaceship Wasteland.

3) Comedy Death Ray on IFC w/Scott Aukerman and friends is ON tonight. 10PM.  If you choose to stay in, this is what you should do.

4) Big Trouble in Little Tokyo is TOMORROW. JAMES ADOMIAN and KYLE KINANE and random raffles and fish tacos galore.  Señor Fish, 422 E. 1st St., Los Angeles, CA at 6:30PM is the place to be.

5) Tonight’s COMEDY CRAWL is like a Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes for free, awesome live comedy.

5) The Comedy Bureau “Tips Its Hat” today to CHRIS D’ELIA-“@chrisdelia Saying "I’m into astrology” is basically like saying “Some things I say don’t matter.” When it comes to Chris D’Elia, he only does two things: He goes up and he kills.  Performing at some major club in LA nearly every night, Chris is almost a “comedy machine”, though he’s anything but robotic.  Catch him on Glory Daze on TBS or Twitter or at his website.

6) From the “You Should Have Been There” Lagoon: Travis Lipski and Harleys

7) People are recognizing the “Comedy Bureau” on the streets.  Well… have comics become people again or is the jury still out on that one?
