April 19, 2024
News

What goes into the magic that makes the live experience of a Comedy Bang! Bang!, Hot Tub with Kurt & Kristen, The Meltdown with Jonah & Kumail that brought hundreds upon hundreds of comedy lovers together every week? Well, honestly, there isn’t enough time or inches in this post to get into the finer points of that, but rest assured that the magic sauce behind each sauce is different and is part and parcel of the times they happened in.

With that in mind, a trio of Paul Danke, Christina Catherine Martinez, and Jake Kroeger are looking to capture that verve with Uh Huh. A tight, but free in spirit (mostly) stand-up show that gives you the unequivocal best of the LA comedy scene (and TCB’s Jake Kroeger and the beloved Danke and Martinez are the three best folks to give it to you).

This very first Uh Huh (hopefully with more to come) is set for Tues. Apr. 23rd at 7:30PM with a grand line-up of Todd Glass, Curtis Cook, Milan Patel, and Veronica Osorio. Tickets are $15 right now if you want to get in on the ground floor of something special. Go get tix here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 124: Todd Glass & Moving Comedy Forward

August 10, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
todd glass

The venerable Todd Glass joins us on this week’s Comedy Bureau Field Report to break down the state of comedy between generations and just exactly how you can still say whatever you want in comedy. Glass is a guiding light both with his very own signature, beloved comedy and is a champion of the newer classes of comedy that, perhaps, might be incomprehensible to comedy purists of yesteryear. Glass and TCB’s Jake Kroeger really dive into what is at the core at the folks that might be holding the art form back by trying to keep right where they had it.

Over 3 months ago, an unprovoked, yet hostile Russia invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine and have subjected the people of Ukraine to an untold amount of death, destruction, and senseless havoc. Ukrainians have valiantly stood their ground and defied any initial expectations of Russia steamrolling through their country.

That said, Putin is still pushing on with his efforts and, thusly, Ukraine needs all the aid that it can get in any way that it can. That’s why you can and should support Nova Ukraine, an org providing emergency humanitarian aid and relief to those in need in Ukraine’s borders, by going to the Hollywood Improv this Sunday, Jun. 5th at 7PM PT for Stand Ups for Ukraine.

All proceeds from the show will be going to Nova Ukraine on top of the fact that you’ll get to see a superb LA comedy line-up in Craig Robinson, Kira Soltanovich, Atsuko Okatsuka, Chris Porter, Todd Glass, Zainab Johnson, Carol Leifer, Dan Kinno, Andrey Belikov.

Tickets are $25 (plus 2 item min.) and you can (and should) get tickets here.

Enjoy Todd Glass’ Life in Quarantine with “Pandemic Tips with Todd Glass”

Seeing people’s lives in quarantine through Zoom or Instagram Live has been the new normal for almost months now. That amount of time has also been enough to figure out how to safely distance and document someone, perhaps a hysterical comedian, in their life while being “safer at home”.

Director Scott Moran (Robbie, Modern Comedian) got to capture, while maintaining extra safe social distancing and document the life of the one and only Todd Glass in this documentary short film “Pandemic Tips with Todd Glass”. Even while hunkered down, Glass is still clearly himself and can make bits, bits within bits, commentary in between all of that from thin air (or whatever just happens to be around him like donuts or a bull horn). This docu-short is equal parts a delightful-day-in-the-pandemic-life of Todd Glass as well as a great preview of what you can pull off in filming while maintaining proper health and safety measures.

So, enjoy Pandemic Tips with Todd Glass right now right here.

Pick of the Day: Todd Glass 4/18

News
helium presents, pick of the day, stand up comedy, todd glass

We’ve seen a lot of comedians try a lot of different things over the last month of lockdown/quarantine/”quar” (if you’re needing to make it sound cuter to cope). For the most part, it has been short sets, extended stories, and sight gags. Still, it’s a great time for experimentation as so many of comedy’s already very loose rules for how it used to be done live, for the time being, have been frustratingly thrown out the window.

If there was someone who was up for trying a bit, a bit within in a bit, an explanation of both the bit and notes on how it’s going to be mindful of when we take the bit from the top, and perhaps try something to really take advantages of the limitations provided by live-streamed comedy done in lockdown because of a global pandemic, it might be the one and only Todd Glass.

Luckily, he’s legitimately headlining and you can see Glass put all of that on display this very weekend, Sat. Apr. 18th thanks to Helium Presents. It’ll be a live to tape show that broadcasts 5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET and tickets are $10. Go get them here and look forward to Saturday for another reason besides being one week closer to being “safer-at-home” ending (hopefully).

We hope that you saw Todd Glass kill it with his singular brand of cleverly wrought tomfoolery and bits on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week. If not, please do yourself a favor and enjoy his great set here.

OK, now that we’re all on the same page, you should take note that Todd will be headlining Largo as part of his The Event of a Lifetime Tour on Mon. Mar. 9th at 8PM. As the title suggests, it’s something that will be so momentous that it would stand out in the course of one’s lifetime.

And, for that, tickets are only $30 (plus $7 service fee). With all of that in mind, you best go get tickets for Todd Glass: The Event of a Lifetime here.

Todd Glass Stirs Up Joyful Chaos on Kimmel (Complete with a Full Band)

Todd Glass is a master of the comedic moment. Whenever you see him perform, he knows how to cause quite the silly ruckus only to effortlessly and hilariously undercut it all with one line, getting a big laugh and applause for doing so. Additionally, Glass is funny with his bits, outside of his bits, and from almost any other angle, which is such an impressive feat unto itself.

No one does it quite like Todd and it really is a beautiful thing to watch him wrangle all of it together, especially with the dimension of him running bits with a full band that’s game for whatever he throws at them.

You can see Todd put all of this on display from his set on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. Please, please enjoy it here.

Armed with a full house band (that also is cued in on his bits and commentary on bits and accompanying course corrections on bits), Glass takes you down the rabbit hole of his comedy, which is rambunctiously fun as well as subtly illuminating about the times we live in and how comedy dissects said times.
