Pick of the Day: The Give Back-Ular Spectacular (in LA) 10/25

October 12, 2023
News
charity benefit, comedy show, dtla, los angeles, tusc

You ought to know that only the WGA Strike is over and the resolve of SAG-AFTRA remains strong as they near 100 days of their very own strike, which very well may happen as negotiations fell apart this week.

With that in mind, it’s crucial to keep in mind that so many essential workers to the industry are still affected since Tinseltown isn’t really quite back yet. That’s numerous folks and their families that are still hanging on by a thread since the AMPTP likes playing the attrition card (even though they ended up giving the WGA everything they wanted).

So, the gigantic star-studded variety show benefits will also continue marching on, the latest being one The Give Back-Ular Spectacular at the Orpheum on Wed. Oct. 25th at 6PM. The Union Solidarity Coalition is organizing what is an extremely stacked evening of stand-up, sketch, music, and a whole hell of a lot more.

On the bill thus far are:
Jason Alexander
Michael McKean
Jack Black
Kumail Nanjiani
Patton Oswalt
Rachel Bloom
Levar Burton
June Diane Raphael
Nicole Byer
Andrea Savage
Bryan Cranston
Paul Scheer
Lil Dicky
Dax Shepard
Lindsay Dougherty
Lily Tomlin
Julian Velard
Simon Helberg
Janelle James
Jeremy Allen White

Don’t be surprised if that’s the tip of the iceberg of the line-up.

The show will be live-streamed as well if you can’t/won’t go to DTLA that night. If you can’t make it at all, but would still like to support an Emergency Fund, you can do so here.

If you’d like to get in on this massive benefit show with tickets starting at only $37, go get them right here right now.

Pick of the Day: Sabrina Jalees & Friends in Support of National Network of Abortion Funds (in LA) 7/19

June 30, 2022
News
abortion access, charity benefit, joel kim booster, largo, los angeles, Mae Martin, naomi ekperigin, national network of abortion funds, nori reed, sabrina jalees, solomon georgio, stand up comedy

It’s quite simple. It’s a grand line-up of comedy here in LA featuring the likes of Mae Martin, Nori Reed, Naomi Ekperigin, Solomon Georgio, Joel Kim Booster, and host Sabrina Jalees and one of the bigger tickets that has its proceeds going to abortion access.

Specifically, Sabrina and company will be performing in support of the National Network of Abortion Funds that will provide whatever they can to women who will be losing access to legal and safe abortions in the way-too-near future. This crucial show is happening on Tues. Jul. 19th at 8:30PM PT and one of LA comedy’s crown jewels, Largo at the Coronet Theatre.

Tickets are $46 (and that’s plenty going to NNAF) and you really need to go get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Stand Ups For Ukraine! (in LA) 6/5

News
Andrey Belikov, atsuko okatsuka, Carol Leifer, charity benefit, chris porter, craig robinson, Dan Kinno, kira soltanovich, los angeles comedy, nova ukraine, todd glass, ukraine, ukraine war, zainab johnson

Over 3 months ago, an unprovoked, yet hostile Russia invaded the sovereign nation of Ukraine and have subjected the people of Ukraine to an untold amount of death, destruction, and senseless havoc. Ukrainians have valiantly stood their ground and defied any initial expectations of Russia steamrolling through their country.

That said, Putin is still pushing on with his efforts and, thusly, Ukraine needs all the aid that it can get in any way that it can. That’s why you can and should support Nova Ukraine, an org providing emergency humanitarian aid and relief to those in need in Ukraine’s borders, by going to the Hollywood Improv this Sunday, Jun. 5th at 7PM PT for Stand Ups for Ukraine.

All proceeds from the show will be going to Nova Ukraine on top of the fact that you’ll get to see a superb LA comedy line-up in Craig Robinson, Kira Soltanovich, Atsuko Okatsuka, Chris Porter, Todd Glass, Zainab Johnson, Carol Leifer, Dan Kinno, Andrey Belikov.

Tickets are $25 (plus 2 item min.) and you can (and should) get tickets here.

As you may well know, Wisconsin is a major swing state. As such, there are plenty of big fundraisers that are going towards making sure it swings left.

One of them, Laughing All the Way to the White House, will be one of the biggest comedy live-stream fundraisers that we’ve seen yet. Slated for this Tue. Oc.t 20th at 6PM PT/8PM CT/9PM ET, the live-stream will feature the likes of: Sarah Silverman, Sarah Cooper, Seth MacFarlane, Kumail Nanjiani, Mike Birbiglia, Hasan Minhaj, Lewis Black, Bassem Youssef, Chelsea Peretti, Whitney Cummings, Judd Apatow, Roy Wood Jr, Maria Bamford, Harry Shearer, Bradley Whitford, Sklar Brothers, Mandy Patinkin, Ahmed Ahmed, Cristela Alonzo, Greg Proops, Jackie Kashian, Will Forte, Ben Gleib, and more.

That’s a line-up worth catching in support of almost any cause. Taking Wisconsin back for the left just happens to be a really great cause to boot.

Access to the live-stream is available via donation. Do so here.

Pick of the Day: Hollywood Quars 6/4

June 3, 2020
News
baron vaughn, brandie posey, caitlin gill, casey ley, charity benefit, chris estrada, hollywood quars, jessica sele, madison shepard, minnesota freedom fund, sean keane, steph tolev

This brand new, weekly comedy game show, Hollywood Quars, hosted by Matt Lieb, takes trivia to a whole new level as both the contestants AND the host don’t know the answers to the questions (even when the host wrote them). It’s up to a really great line-up of comedians to make it seem like their answer is the best (or maybe even actually right?).

For this first edition of Hollywood Quars on Thurs. Jun. 4th at 7:30PM PT/10:30PM ET, they’ve assembled:

Baron Vaughn (Netflix, Comedy Central)
Steph Tolev (Comedy Central)
Brandie Posey (Lady 2 Lady Podcast)
Sean Keane (Roundball Rock Podcast)
Caitlin Gill (NPR, 2 Dope Queens)
Madison Shepard (Album “Goodnight Silverlake Lounge”)
Jessica Sele (Vice TV)
Chris Estrada (Comedy Central)
Casey Ley (Gay Power Half Hour )

Also, we gotta say, having gotten a sneak peak, this very well might be one of the slickest looking comedy game shows done via live-stream.

By the way, they’ll be raising money for Minnesota Freedom Fund (which, due to so much support, is distributing funds to other worthy causes)

Tickets are $8 if you snag them right now and you can (and very much should) go get them here.

Yes, this is a charity benefit supporting the redo of a hotly contested election in North Carolina via Swing Left with the likes of Jane Lynch, Laurie Metcalf, and more for a stellar evening of comedy and music.

Also, the amazing Dana Gould will be hosting this whole Stand Up For America event as beloved Planet of the Apes’ character Dr. Zaius. That very well could be a show on its own that we’d also highly recommend you to go to, but you’re getting a jam packed night on top of that.

Tickets range from $50-$2700 (gets Host listing, VIP Benefits and a special recognition by Dr. Zaius for saving the planet). It might be steep, but it seems all worth the price of admission if you can afford it.

So, go get more details and tickets for Stand Up For America at The Satellite on Thurs. Aug. 8th here.

Other than trying to watch Maria’s social media feeds to see if you can watch her workshop her new hour over coffee with her or during her runs at The Clubhouse, you can watch her along with a great line-up of stand-ups and support the Freedom for Immigrants charity on August. 27th at Highland Park’s Hi Hat (5043 York Blvd., Los Angeles, CA).

As far as we can see, you need to go to this if you can. Tickets are $40 (21+ only) and you can (and very much should) get them here. Don’t be surprised if they sell out.
