Always seamlessly blending comedy, music, and social justice, Little Secret will be hosting a special benefit for Hollywood Food Coalition with Gift Horse Project called Pre-Pride Proud to Feed LA.

On the bill is astounding line-up of Margaret Cho, Nick Thune, Ashley Ray, Dylan Adler, Luke Rathborne, & Escape Artist Lovers along with Michael Imperioli, Rain Phoenix, Jena Malone, and Rooney Mara (and tunes from DJ Allie Teilz).

Pick of the Day: ROOMIES in Hell (in LA) 3/18

February 22, 2024
News
bar lubitsch, Dylan Adler, la comedy, sam morrison, weho

There was a time when, somehow, the hysterical Dylan Adler lived with the also hysterical Sam Morrison. Two NYC comedy powerhouses behind the same apartment door: can you imagine?

Well, imagine no more as Sam is coming through LA and reuniting/going through the ringer yet again with his former roommate, now turned beloved LA comedy transplant next month. Along with Joel Kim Booster, Hayden Johnson, Camirin Farmer, Reshma Meister & Sarah Stern, and Sam Oh, Morrison and Adler will show you all of the queer comedy brilliance that was (somehow) contained within a two bedroom apartment.

Delightfully called ROOMIES in Hell, catch Sam and Dylan and co. at Bar Lubitsch on Mon. Mar. 18th at 8PM for the nice price, only right now, of $5. Go get your tix here.

Pick of the Day: Adler & Oh (in LA) 11/2

October 9, 2023
News
Dylan Adler, los angeles comedy, musical comedy, Sam Oh

We sincerely hope you’ve seen and fallen in love with the, honestly, beautiful queer Asian comedy stylings of Dylan Adler and Sam Oh in and throughout LA. Between backflips and being psychic amongst a myriad of other talents they both have, Adler and Oh have established themselves in the scene that you really need to go out of your way to see.

With that in mind, you can see them both for a very special musical/comedy/cabaret variety night at one of LA’s favorite queer haunts, Tramp Stamp Granny’s along with a special line-up that also seems to be amazing queer/Asian comedians. This very first show will include the likes of Sheng Wang, EJ Marcus, Vinny Thomas, and Susan Song and, for our money, that should mean your plans for Thurs. Nov. 2nd at 8PM are made.

Tickets are available for the nice price of $5 and you best go get them here.

News
Dylan Adler, game show, ify nwadiwe, jenny zigrino, los angeles comedy, lyric hyperion, meme fighter, nick gligor

As you might surmise, we pit some of the very best comedians (and you know we mean that when WE here at TCB say it) versus each other with memes as the only “weapon” at their disposal. Meme Fighter Live! will decide comedy supremacy through the shrewdest, most hysterical manipulation of the language of the Internet.

For this inaugural edition, we have the esteemed “fighters” of Dylan Adler, Ify Nwadiwe & Jenny Zigrino, all undeniable comedic forces in their own rights under the presiding of one of the best hosts around, Nick Gligor. Pick of the Day: Kelly Bachman & Dylan Adler: Rape Victims Are Horny Too @ Joe’s Pub (in NYC) 5/16

April 27, 2023
News
Dylan Adler, joe's pub, kelly bachman, musical comedy, nyc comedy, rape victims are horny too

Last year, Kelly Bachman and Dylan Adler put one of the best works of musical comedy in recent memory with their live album Rape Victims Are Horny Too. It’s a truly astounding and groundbreaking work that is simultaneously so damn funny, but honest and powerful and respective to their own truths as sexual assault survivors. You can read our thoughts about how moving and groundbreaking it is here.

With that in mind, getting to see Kelly and Dylan put the show up live is a must-see experience. Lucky for New Yorkers, Adler is back in NYC for all of May and will be putting on an exclusive evening of Rape Victims Are Horny Too up at one of NYC’s most venerable venues, Joe’s Pub on Tues. May 16th at 9:30PM. Tickets are only $15 (plus 2 drink or 1 food item min.) for this very special, exclusive, who-knows-when-this-will-happen-again night and you best go get them here.

Dylan Adler Just Made His Wondrous Late Night Stand-Up Debut (in Case You Didn’t Know About Him Already)

February 16, 2023
News
Dylan Adler, james corden, late late show, late night

Between Vulture’s Comedians You Should & Will Know, his very first appearance on Corden, his astounding album with Kelly Bachman, Rape Victims Are Horny Too, and all of our coverage here on TCB, we’d hope you’d be well acquainted with comedic force of nature, one Dylan Adler.

If, somehow, that isn’t the case, Dylan made a killer network TV debut doing a set on The Late Late Show with James Corden and that counts as everyone being put on notice that Dylan has arrived and deserves that pilot about him and his gay twin.

Please revel and enjoy Dylan’s set here.

Dylan Adler (and His Backflip) Make a Network TV Debut

January 20, 2023
News
Dylan Adler, james corden, late late show

Dylan Adler had a banner year in 2022 for making so many best of/who-to-watch lists and putting out an amazing album Rape Victims Are Horny Too with collaborative partner Kelly Bachman, which all culminated into him getting hired as a writer on The Late Late Show with James Corden. With Dylan on staff for the last few months, we have been pondering what he would have up his sleeve and sort of sandbox the show might give him.

We need not ponder anymore.

Last night, Dylan got to make his debut appearance as a bit player/correspondent on Corden and really made the most out of his entire comedy repertoire (and acrobatic skills) by “attempting” to be a sports reporter for The Late Late Show. For our money, it’s the sort of appearance that puts late night/TV on notice and will hopefully lead to plenty more on-camera bits for Adler very, very soon.

Without further adieu, please watch and enjoy Dylan Adler’s late night/network TV debut here

Pick of the Day: Hit That Track with Dylan Adler (in LA) 12/10

December 5, 2022
News
Dylan Adler, los angeles comedy, musical comedy, stand up comedy, the elysian

One Dylan Adler, the newly minted Vulture Comedian You Should and Will Know and the newly added writer to Corden, has gotten plenty of ink from us and deservingly so. Once again, ever since we saw him do hard hitting jokes and songs about intersectional race issues and mental health and a backflip on the top of a parking garage, we’ve been smitten.

Adler has just moved to LA (b/c of Corden) and as such will be getting to debut his hour show for us Angelenos with (hopefully) better weather. Hit That Track with Dylan Adler is set for Sat. Dec. 10th at 7:30PM at The Elysian. Tickets are only $16 and you best go snag ’em right now here.

Pick of the Day: Stamptown (in LA) 11/30

November 3, 2022
News
bonavega, catherine cohen, chad damiani, christina catherine martinez, Dylan Adler, los angeles comedy, Mae Martin, natalie palamides, stamptown, zach zucker

Returning victoriously from Europe, Zach Zucker and Stamptown his traveling, rotating circus of clowns, stand-ups, characters, out there musical acts, and more is coming around to LA once more. The last time Stamptown was in town was six months ago back when Netflix Is a Joke Fest finally happened, which, honestly feels like two years ago at this point.

Per usual, Zucker has gone above and beyond to stack the line-up with the most daring and illuminating acts in town, which will include (so far for this 11/30 edition):

Mae Martin
Catherine Cohen
Natalie Palamides
Dylan Adler
Bonavega
Chad Damiani
Christina Catherine Martinez

It’s at the nice and big and raucous Bourbon Room in the heart of Hollywood on Hollywood Blvd. (perhaps one of the only reasons to go there?) and tickets are only $20 right now. Go get ’em while you still can here.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 131: Dylan Adler and Kelly Bachman & Making Their Own Comedy Gold from Trauma

September 28, 2022
News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
Dylan Adler, kelly bachman, musical comedy, rape jokes, rape survivors, trauma

Born from the roughs of a chance meeting at an open mic, NYC comedy darlings Dylan Adler and Kelly Bachman found both peace and an indelible comedy partner. Together, they made, for our money, one of the best hours of comedy this year and certainly one of the best albums/specials about trauma, Rape Victims Are Horny Too. This week’s TCB Field Report talks to the freewheeling duo of survivor comedians and how they managed to make such a fantastic, rollicking hour of story and song about surviving rape and trauma.

As Survivors, Dylan Adler and Kelly Bachman’s “Rape Victims Are Horny Too” Might Just Have One of the Best Hours of Comedy on Trauma

September 26, 2022
News
Dylan Adler, kelly bachman

Sourcing comedy from trauma isn’t anything new within the art form of comedy. Yet, it feels as though, after centuries of the art evolving, joking about one’s scars, both physical and emotional, is a precarious endeavor. More specifically, the ever sharp topic of rape has been delicately been the catalyst for captivating and moving comedy specials by survivors and esteemed comedians Hannah Gadsby and Cameron Esposito with Nanette and Rape Jokes, respectively.

Dylan Adler and Kelly Bachman have broken new ground by doing an entire album of simultaneously cheeky and as-starkly-vulnerable-as-can-be comedy songs and stories about being rape survivors. The title itself Rape Victims Are Horny Too is, in of itself, both a trigger warning and the perfect spark for an almost unbelievably trailblazing hour of comedy. As both Dylan and Kelly are rape survivors, they take back agency over their lives and their truths with such gleeful abandon with songs such as “Tell Me I’m Hot (Don’t Touch Me)” that you’ll be flabbergasted from both the lyrics and that you’re laughing heartily at them.

Rape Victims Are Horny Too dances so playfully and also so masterfully with taking power back from victimhood, but without going over-the-top in a way that diminishes the gravity of trauma. Adler and Bachman speak so specifically (as well as sing sassy lyrics over hit pop songs) of their experiences of being mansplained to about rape culture or about the unchecked advances at gay clubs while focusing on how they kept their humanity as intact as possible. Though one hopefully hasn’t been subject to rape/sexual assault/harassment/etc., there is undeniable relatability in their extremely human truths, especially when done up with some show tunes.

The power of narratives, specifically the overarching mainstream ones already in place that people just assume are truth, get rightfully dismantled here too. Woven into the themes of rape culture in Rape Victims Are Horny Too are plenty of imagery of sexual abusers that aren’t straight, cis white men. The inner workings of rape as perpetrated by queer people and women are pointedly detailed on several tracks. Their inclusion highlights why having conversations about rape, on all levels, needs to happen if we’re to address it meaningfully as a civilization.

As far as we’re concerned, Rape Victims Are Horny Too is as much of a tour de force of comedy as 2022 will bring thanks to the audacity, courage, and deftness of Kelly Bachman and Dylan Adler. If you’re pondering about comedy supposed power to affect change in such dark times, this hour of joke songs about rape might end up being irrefutable proof.

Rape Victims Are Horny Too is now streaming across platforms. Please listen and enjoy, knowing full well what the contents of the album are, here.

Pick of the Day: Absolutely Thriving: It’s Been a Year Already?! (in NYC) 9/13

August 31, 2022
News
absolutely thriving, brooklyn, Dylan Adler, glennis laroe, jay jurden, Marcia Belsky, molly ruben long, nyc comedy, sabrina wu, union hall

In a time that’s rife full of turnover and upheaval, it’s a wonder how any comedy show that started a year ago is still going, especially in the crowded in NYC comedy scene that seems back to its 2019 pace.

So, why not join in and celebrating Glennis LaRoe and Molly Ruben-Long’s one year anniversary of their splendid monthly Brooklyn show Absolutely Thriving come next month? Lasting a year should be proof positive that they’re actually thriving (on top of having a lot of Brooklyn’s best line-ups whenever it was happening).

So, they’re going to celebrate proper and do their year anniversary at one third of Brooklyn’s holy comedy trinity, Union Hall (the other two being Littlefield and The Bell House) with a properly stellar line-up of Dylan Adler, Jay Jurden, Sabrina Wu, and Marcia Belsky on Tues. Sept. 13th at 7:30PM.

Tickets are only $12 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Pick of the Day: A Night with Dylan Adler (in NYC) 8/29

July 19, 2022
News
brooklyn, Dylan Adler, littlefield, nyc comedy

In the not so distant future, it’s not hard to imagine that the incredibly multi-talented, hilarious, and acrobatic Dylan Adler is so busy headlining everywhere that you might not get to see him do an hour in NYC all that easily. NYC (and pretty much anyone who has seen him) has become an immediate fan and his silly, but bombastically dark and vulnerable comedy has captured the attention of the whole of NYC comedy.

With that said, you shouldn’t miss your latest chance to catch him headline next month at Littlefield in Brooklyn. A Night with Dylan Adler is set for Mon. Aug. 29th at 8PM ET. Tickets are $12 you really ought to go get them right here right now.

Pick of the Day: Rape Victims Are Horny Too Album Taping (in NYC) 6/24 & 6/25

June 7, 2022
News
album taping, Dylan Adler, kelly bachman, musical comedy, nyc comedy

It’s pretty clear at this point that Kelly Bachman and Dylan Adler have carved out their place in the NYC comedy scene for their hilarity through daring vulnerability (also, you might know/have seen Dylan do a standing backflip and Kelly call out monster Harvey Weinstein to his face). They carry on the torch of truth in comedy to new frontiers, especially with the show they wrote and perform together, Rape Victims Are Horny Too.

There is no subterfuge to that title. Kelly and Dylan are both rape survivors and have, as an act of healing and holding up a beacon for other survivors to not feel alone, have written a very, very funny musical about that part of their lives. They’ve honed the show over the years and are going to put the show officially on wax with a live album taping this month. Undoubtedly, this will be a great addition to bold comedy specials cut from similar cloth including Hannah Gadsby’s Nanette and Cameron Esposito’s Rape Jokes.

There are two tapings of Rape Victims Are Horny Too at the Lower East Side’s Caveat on Fri. Jun. 24th & Sat. Jun. 25th at 9:30PM ET. Tickets are $15 and you best go get them now.

Pick of the Day: Asian Comedy Fest 2022 (in NYC) 5/6 & 5/7

News
asian comedy fest, caveat, Dylan Adler, jes tom, Julia Shipplett, karen chee, Michael Cruz Kayne, nyc comedy, rizzle, sketch comedy, stand up ny, usama siddiquee, Wilfred Padua, Youngmi Mayer, Yuhua Hamasak

Having had to weather getting a comedy festival on its leg through COVID-19, the Asian Comedy Fest has persisted to its third year and still very much featuring the best Asian comedy acts that you really, really ought to know, but, for too many reasons, have not become a house hold name yet.

The Asian Comedy Fest is set to due a full on, in-person events at both Stand Up NY on May 6th and a curated sketch/variety show at Caveat on May 7th.

The ACF stand-up showcases are really stacked with many of NYC comedy’s finest including Dylan Adler, Julia Shipplett, Jes Tom, Usama Siddiquee, Wilfred Padua, Michael Cruz Kayne, and many, many more for 6PM ET, 8PM ET, and 10PM ET shows. The Caveat shows have got the comedy stylings of Karen Chee, Youngmi Mayer, Yuhua Hamasaki, and many more also lined-up for 6PM ET, 8PM ET, and 10PM ET shows that will also be live-streamed.

Don’t miss out on any of this if you’re in and around NYC at the beginning of next month. Find full-line-ups and more at asiancomedyfest.com.

Oh, before we forget, ACF is doing a Rizzle app contest again for $1K prize. AAPI comedy creators can create a 1 minute talk show for their chance to win. Get more details here.

Pick of the Day: Dylan Adler: Hit That Track (in NYC) 2/18

December 30, 2021
News
caveat, Dylan Adler, musical comedy, nyc, nyc comedy, stand up comedy

We might have told you before (and we will definitely tell you again in our best 100 year end list) that Dylan Adler is one of the funniest people that we got to see for the very first time in 2021. His vulnerable, personal, dark, physical (and often musical) comedy had us doubled over when we first saw it on a rooftop in DTLA earlier this year and it’s imperative to us that you go catch Dylan wherever he’s playing. Thankfully, for New Yorkers, that’s all over town all the time (and perhaps in LA in January).

Adler is actually doing his very own full length show that is a treat that no one in around the NYC’s LES should miss. Hit That Track will have Dylan headline Caveat on Feb. 18th at 7PM ET (so, hopefully that’s far enough from the reaches of this recent COVID-19 surge) and tickets are only $15.

Go get them right here right now and enjoy looking forward to something in mid February rather than worry about Valentine’s Day.

The Comedy Bureau Field Report Ep. 89: Dylan Adler & The In-Betweens

News, The Comedy Bureau Field Report
Dylan Adler, netflix is a joke fest, spotify

Discovering Dylan Adler for the first time this year was absolutely one of the highlights of 2021 for us at TCB. His mix of Broadway flair, darkly personal comedy, and acrobatics (Dylan does a backflip in his act) blew us away when we saw it on a rooftop of a parking structure and must be a real gift to the NYC comedy scene. Dylan joins TCB’s Jake Kroeger for this week’s TCB Field Report to follow his rise in the NYC comedy scene through queer and asian comedy spaces and spaces that are very much not that.

Also, “hot” takes on Netflix is a Joke Fest returning, comedians trying to renegotiate their deals with Spotify, and more.

News
brooklyn, caroline yost, Dylan Adler, edy modia, hannah pilkes, ikechukhu ufomadu, Joe Castle Baker, Karolena Theresa, kate willett, ny comedy, rachel kaly, sabrina wu, solo show

Seeing someone develop an hour or a solo show can be one of the more rewarding things in the live comedy going experience. The ephemeral nature of newly forged jokes, bits, pieces, etc. for an hour of comedy solo on stage gives a certain urgency that can often be electric (and it’s often what we hope to see when we’re watching comedy these days).

Also, on the other hand, it’s pretty great seeing really funny people do shows live and in-person. Whichever school of thought you want to fall in line with, you definitely should catch Caroline Yost of the amazing NYC comedy group Ladies Who Ranch develop a solo show in the very hip, very hidden Life World in Gowanus in Brooklyn. Yost is such an absurdly fun force to watch on stage and it’s definitely worth you going to any one of the six shows she has lined-up starting this week.

Schedule and special guests are as follows:

10/28-Kate Willett, Joe Castle-Baker, Rachel Kaly
11/4-Karolena Theresa, Ikechukhu Ufomadu, Dylan Adler
11/18-Hannah Pilkes, Sabrina Wu, Edy Modica
12/2-a special split bill show with Sarah Wilson
12/9-TBA
12/16-TBA

All shows are at 8PM ET (doors 7:30PM ET) and tickets are only $11 (proof of vaccination required). Go RSVP and snag your tickets here.

October 4, 2021
News
astronomy club, Dylan Adler, hannah pilkes, jake kroeger, josh gondelman, ladies who ranch, nyc comedy

Even though we’ve only officially covered NYC comedy for a couple of months, there is so much about comedy in New York that we truly, deeply champion.

So, with that in mind, we wanted to do a portrait of NYC comedy for this very special Double Anniversary Show of The Comedy Bureau, marking both the 10th and 11th years of TCB (since we didn’t do any celebrating in 2020). Note, there will be a LA anniversary show on 10/25 at the shiny and new comedy venue, The Elysian.

With the help of the marvelous Carly Hoogendyk, we have such a colorful, lovely portrait indeed of NYC comedy (that has NYC stalwarts and brand new transplants) including:

Astronomy Club
Josh Gondelman
Dylan Adler
Hannah Pilkes
Ladies Who Ranch
TCB’s very own Jake Kroeger presiding as host

That’s right, we’re not just doing a stand-up show, we’re trying to highlight all of NYC (just like we’ve done in LA for years). We would love if you came just to see your amazing faces (or part of them, anyway) and marvel how long we’ve been keeping the lights on TCB on.

We absolutely can’t wait to bring all these hysterical folks on to the Union Hall stage on Fri. Oct. 15th at 7:30PM ET. Tickets are $10 right now and $15 at the door (proof of vaccination required, of course). Snag ’em here.

Pick of the Day: Looking Forward to It (in NYC) 9/21

News
dan fox, david cross, Dylan Adler, josh gondelman, nyc comedy, phoebe robinson, Tina Friml, vote forward
Whether or not you’ve paid attention to the news recently, it’s pretty clear that voting engagement is as crucially important as it has ever been; probably more so. Thankfully, the comedy show that supports that very thing, Looking Forward to It, is coming to its latest edition next week in support of Vote Forward. In fact, all proceeds will go to them.
Of course, one of NYC comedy’s treasures, Josh Gondelman, will be hosting and they’ll have yet another massive line-up (of David Cross, Phoebe Robinson, Dylan Adler, Tina Friml, and Dan Fox) that you shouldn’t need to encourage you to go and support getting more people out to vote, but is there just in case you need that extra push.
This latest Looking Forward to It is set for Tues. Sept. 21st at 8PM ET at Littlefield in Brooklyn. Tickets are $15-$50 right now. Go get them here! Proof of vaccination will be required at the door.

Asian Comedy Festival Returns to Do Hybrid Virtual/Live Format and Is Taking Submissions

March 29, 2021
News
asian comedy festival, bryan yang, Dylan Adler, Fareeha Khan, fumi abe, Mic Nguyen

The very slight dovetailing of the pandemic has people raring up to, well, do things. One of those things is comedy festivals and while a whole row of shows can’t entirely be done in person like they used to do, more and more festivals including JFL Montreal and SXSW seem to be shooting for some sort of hybrid mix of live-streamed comedy that has some sort of element of being done on stage, in person (w/very limited audience).

The latest festival to explore this route is the Asian Comedy Festival, which will following up their hit debut with this special pair of ACF events. They’ll have a “live stand-up taping” and have a virtual showcase from submissions exclusive via the short form content/social media app, Rizzle. If you’re an API comedian/comedy type, you can indeed submit for this part of the festival through Rizzle. Find out more here.

For their stand-up showcase, The 2nd Annual ACF already has Fumi Abe, Mic Nguyen, Bryan Yang, Dylan Adler, Fareeha Khan (as well as a special live reading of an episode of Bling Empire by Bowen Yang) on the bill.

If you’re looking for Asian comedians that you perhaps didn’t know about, this might be a very good place to start. The Asian Comedy Festival is set to premiere digitally on May 28th. Get more details/info for watching, submitting, etc. here.
