Morning Debriefing 8/7/11

1) Louie will be renewed for a third season on FX. As there’s very little pattern to the show, it has us thinking that there’s kind of no way Louis C.K. can “jump the shark” except for stopping the show or going the Twin Peaks 2nd Season route.
2) Well, if you’re question to Aziz Ansari is “Why don’t you have a red dot on your forehead?” at the Tig Notaro & Friends show at Largo, his answer will be that you’re racist, which is absolutely the correct response.
3) FX’s the League had a contingency plan in case the NFL had a lockout. Sadly, it did not involve a NTSF:SD:SUV crossover.
4) Having gotten bumped from his last spot for the show running too long, Nate Bargatze will be on Conan Tues. August 9th (TBS 11PM).
5) ALSO ON AUG. 9TH, Marc Maron’s long awaited new album “This Has To Be Funny” comes out. Circle the date again on your calendars if you have to (assuming you still use an actual paper calendar).
6) According to @TrendsLA yesterday, Brody Stevens was NOT trending on Twitter. Instead, Victoria Beckham, Channing Tatum, cuddling, and youuuu were the topics Angelenos were more interested in than Brody setting @allthingsbrody on fire. Even Patton Oswalt made a hashtag #tweetlikebrodystevens in honor of him. #WTF #getyourshitTOGETHERLA #dontcareifyouwereatarave

The Morning After…Podcast w/ Kiki Daire & Baron Vaughn
On this episode, we welcome veteran performer Kiki Daire and comedian/actor Baron Vaughn. We discuss Kiki’s start in the biz, and what it was like to see the paradigm shift from VHS to the internet. We also talk about Baron’s perspective on interracial porn and open relationships, and how Kiki navigates dating in and out of the industry. Shop talk goes out the door when Jake & Eli ask cats or dogs, and the guests’ answers create a frenzy bigger than The Beatles.
Morning Debriefing 8/8/11

1) The Down Syndrome’s Association of the UK finds Doug Stanhope offensive. The fact it took the DSA so long to find and be offended by a clip of Stanhope ranting on Sarah Palin and her child with Down’s Syndrome, a clip that’s been online for almost 3 years not to mention Stanhope’s reputation for going dark with jokes about abortion, denouncing AA, etc., really undercuts their public outcry.
2) Weird Al Yankovic will officially have a televised concert special on Comedy Central to air on Oct. 1st and available for purchase on DVD/Blu-Ray Oct. 4th.
3) Neil Hamburger and his Britney Spears Haikus; in case you needed clarification, Hamburger is winning the war online against Spears’ fans.

This American Wife Episode 35 – Alison Agosti, Hilary Winston
“The Horror, the Horror” Writer/producer Hilary Winston (Community, My Name is Earl) describes the horror of discovering her boyfriend wrote a book about her in her new book, “My Boyfriend Wrote a Book About Me,” and Alison Agosti describes the horror of public speaking, by speaking publicly about it. It’s Apocalypse… Now! Stay with us.

We watched THE SMURFS with special guest Paul F. Tompkins
This is one of my favorite episodes, even though the sound quality is slightly muddled because June and Jason are in NYC. The Smurfs is a kids movie for adults about things like not wanting to be a father and the harsh business of advertising. Exactly what kids want to see.
Line-Up:

1) Marc Maron’s “This Has To Be Funny” is out today! Download at the link or if you can find it in a store, something, anything.
2) Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, Ed Asner, and more have had enough of the environment already…
Stop The Environment from Ed Asner
3) The Onion will experiment with charging readers for online conent.
4) The LA weekly writes about the Tomorrow Show as Ron Lynch and company deserve it.
5) Fast Company explores Successful Fake Twitter Accounts.
6) Buzzine interviews Kumail Nanjiani before his appearance on Showtime’s Green Room with Paul Provenza.
7) Patton Oswalt in another 5 Second Film!!!
8) An article we wrote for the Nerdist on how SEO has possibly ruined comedy is according to “Matt” is “…a boring, pointless, empty article,” further adding, “Nothing worse than a comedy critic. Get a job.” Apparently, he liked the Les Misérables parody of Jay-Z’s & Alicia Keys’ “Empire State of Mind”. To each his own.
9) Fuck yeah Down’s Syndrome Association of the UK, you bet Doug Stanhope isn’t going to apologize for his rant against Sarah Palin and her DS baby (another piece we wrote yesterday for Laughspin).

Morning Debriefing 8/10/11

1) Lopez Tonight will air it’s last episode on Thursday, which is incredibly unfortunate considering comedians like James Adomian and Brent Weinbach their late night TV debuts. Don’t miss an appearance tonight with David Koechner and tomorrow night in the final episode as Auggie Smith is scheduled to do a stand-up set (TBS 12AM).
2) Brody Stevens/@allthingsbrody was REALLY arrested outside of a Starbucks, but is now released. Whatever your opinion of Brody is, reading his Twitter feed is a must.

3) Hampton Yount is absolutely hilarious. No set up required here, just watch.
4) Steve Carell feels out what it would be like to be on Conan while being on Conan.
5) Reportedly, Bill Burr dropped in at Big Fish last night, a room known for people heckling you because he’s working on a set. If you’re a comedian in LA (or NY), think about that the next time you question why you’re wasting hours of your time waiting to go up at a room that you’re not a big fan of.
6) TONIGHT ON LATE NIGHT TV: Tig Notaro will on be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC 12:35AM) and Aziz Ansari will be on Conan (TBS 11PM)
7) Doug Stanhope’s episode of Louie will air tomorrow, which will be interesting considering Stanhope has said that Louis C.K. cast him in a role where Stanhope can just be himself (FX 10:30PM).
