11) I tried to get into the Moth Storyslam last night, but couldn’t because 300 people who paid $8 to get in beat me to Zanzibar Live in Santa Monica last night. That’s 300 people who paid money to hear stories that may or may not be good by people they’ve most likely never heard of. Why can’t people be excited for comedy like this?

Now That’s a ‘Change-Up’: Todd Glass Sits at Kimmel’s Desk
Last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Todd Glass stops in the middle of his set and literally, without the aid of some little known spell or some frustrated writers’ imagination, switches places with Jimmy Kimmel.
It’s a weird, though refreshing, move on his part, as Glass had the audience going on the last joke that he told while on stage.
Watch it in Parts 1 and 2. Then go check out Todd Glass record his first hour long special at the El Rey Theatre this Saturday.

(This was meant to go in the Morning Debriefing, but due to a lack of caffeine and a subsequent lack of awareness, the video is now its own post. Talk about being meta, am I right? Also, yes, you can hate us for the pun in the headline.)
At the end of the day everyone needs to just keep going, and if you wallow in self-pity or you focus on negative things that might slow you down you will never get to confront your own Dane Cook on your own FX show. You know what I mean.

Please welcome our newest paid regular, Sandy Danto!
Sandy moved to LA after studying at Indiana University while taking summer classes at the famed Second City in Detroit, then immediately starts working at National Lampoon on the Sunset Strip. He’s hired to write, direct, produce and perform for comedy shorts that would go up on their website and on college television networks. He goes on to appear on Mad TV and Comedy Central’s Mash-up, as well as co-hosts the web-series Fat Guy Nation. He eventually goes on tour with 90’s icon Pauly Shore and builds a name for himself that he carries back to LA on his back and throws down at the steps of his apartment, where he gets back to work, writing jokes. Whether or not any success, paid gigs or applause fulfill him, and what he came to California to do, isn’t even relevant at this point. His presence on stage as a performer and friend is relevant in itself. Anything else is bonus and whether or not you laugh, isn’t. He’ll be fine because, after all, he’s just dreaming.

Morning Debriefing 8/7/11

1) Louie will be renewed for a third season on FX. As there’s very little pattern to the show, it has us thinking that there’s kind of no way Louis C.K. can “jump the shark” except for stopping the show or going the Twin Peaks 2nd Season route.
2) Well, if you’re question to Aziz Ansari is “Why don’t you have a red dot on your forehead?” at the Tig Notaro & Friends show at Largo, his answer will be that you’re racist, which is absolutely the correct response.
3) FX’s the League had a contingency plan in case the NFL had a lockout. Sadly, it did not involve a NTSF:SD:SUV crossover.
4) Having gotten bumped from his last spot for the show running too long, Nate Bargatze will be on Conan Tues. August 9th (TBS 11PM).
5) ALSO ON AUG. 9TH, Marc Maron’s long awaited new album “This Has To Be Funny” comes out. Circle the date again on your calendars if you have to (assuming you still use an actual paper calendar).
6) According to @TrendsLA yesterday, Brody Stevens was NOT trending on Twitter. Instead, Victoria Beckham, Channing Tatum, cuddling, and youuuu were the topics Angelenos were more interested in than Brody setting @allthingsbrody on fire. Even Patton Oswalt made a hashtag #tweetlikebrodystevens in honor of him. #WTF #getyourshitTOGETHERLA #dontcareifyouwereatarave

The Morning After…Podcast w/ Kiki Daire & Baron Vaughn
On this episode, we welcome veteran performer Kiki Daire and comedian/actor Baron Vaughn. We discuss Kiki’s start in the biz, and what it was like to see the paradigm shift from VHS to the internet. We also talk about Baron’s perspective on interracial porn and open relationships, and how Kiki navigates dating in and out of the industry. Shop talk goes out the door when Jake & Eli ask cats or dogs, and the guests’ answers create a frenzy bigger than The Beatles.
