Season two of Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi incredibly endearing as her real life wife (who is great actress/writer/director/comedian herself) Stephanie Allynne shows up as Tig’s love interest and features an drop-the-mic style moment when Tig gets cornered by some “well meaning” homophobic evangelicals.

See for yourself in the season two trailer here.

This might be a wake-up call to those who haven’t caught any of the series thus far.

Episodes start streaming on Amazon Prime on Friday, September 8th.

Patton Oswalt’s Next Special “Annihilation” to Premiere on Netflix on October 17th and Might Be His Most Personal Hour Yet

Patton Oswalt’s latest stand-up special will indeed delve into Patton dealing with the untimely passing of his wife on top of everything else that’s going on the world.

Oswalt has never shied away from dissecting his own life in his stand-up, but, by virtue of the subject matter, this hour will very likely present an even more open and vulnerable Patton that we’ve ever seen before.

With that in mind, you should mark Tuesday, October 17th on your calendar when this special, Annihilation, starts streaming on Netflix.

Within minutes of being announced, this Ellen DeGeneres show at Largo at the Coronet Theatre happening this Tuesday night is already sold out.

However, we’d urge you to keep a close watch on Largo’s calendar, maybe even sign-up for their mailing list as they just might release tickets at the last minute between today and tomorrow or, also, add another night from Ellen.

After all these years and the success that has come from doing WTF, Marc Maron seems almost at peace with the way things are; the key word being “almost”.

Luckily, that degree of almost being at peace keeps fueling his particular brand of self-deprecating comedy, specifically into this latest hour, Too Real, that will stream on Netflix starting next Tuesday, September 5th.

See for yourself in this trailer released this week.

Watch Trailer for “Dina”, a Doc That Attempts to Be a True Life Rom Com

In general, most romantic comedies that hit your local multiplex are far removed from reality in almost every aspect. Such fantastical notions of how dating, relationships, love, sex, etc. are supposed to work do serve the purpose of escapism, but they don’t really reflect what a love story might work in the real world.

That’s where the documentary Dina from Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini comes in as it’s a documentary following the real life eccentric couple of Dina Buno and Scott Levin falling in love.

See for yourself how sweet real love can still be in the trailer here, then look for its release on October 6th.

On Sunday nights, there’s a good chance you might find us at Bigfoot Lodge East for our last stop of the evening, Babe Island.

Tonight, there unfortunately will be no Babe Island at said Bigfoot Lodge as ASW, Androsky, Gborie, and Fritz are moving their show one neighborhood over to Bar Angeles (AKA The Elliott Smith Bar at 4330 W. Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, CA) two weeks from now on Sunday, September 10th.

Per usual, they stacked the line-up with LA favorites: Jon Daly, Alex & Jude, Richard Bain, Billy Bonnell, and Amy Silverberg.

Except for the location change, it should be business as usual with the show starting around 10PM and there being no cover or minimum.

James Adomian Does Sebastian Gorka’s Farewell (EXCLUSIVE)

Avid listeners of the no-f*cks-given political comedy podcast Chapo Trap House will know that the brilliant James Adomian often voices a more histrionic, yet fun version Sebastian Gorka, another unfortunate member in Trump’s White House.

Gorka, as of today, is the latest to fall from the Trump Administration and Adomian hastily assembled his Gorka wig and facial hair to give his own personal farewell on Instagram from the halls of power… for now.

Amazon Is Making a Last Comic Standing Style Series for India and a Travel Show Hosted by Comedian Vir Das

In case you wondering if there’s a comedy boom globally, there certainly is. In fact, if you browse through Netflix, you’ll notice that they have specials for internationally renowned comedians that haven’t quite broken through to fame in the U.S. and non-English language stand-up specials as well.

Not to be miss out on opportunities to Netflix, Amazon has made a big move for comedy in India.

With India’s population north of 1.3 billion people, Amazon is doing well to key in on an ever burgeoning market for comedy, especially by giving Vir Das his own show on the heels of his Netflix hour special and searching for new talent via a comedy competition series.

So, with all of this in mind, don’t be surprised to soon see an uptick of Indian comedians coming stateside in similar fashion to UK and Australian comedians trying to make their name known in America.

A New Alan Partridge Special and Series Will Be Coming to BBC

Steve Coogan’s iconic character Alan Partridge will be bringing a whole new TV special and a new series to the BBC later this year and in 2018 respectively.

With an Alan Partridge having done a movie and Coogan have had a different sort of success with Philomena, we weren’t quite sure what might happen to Partridge in the future.

Now, at this point in 2017, it looks like Coogan will be continuing as Partridge and himself in The Trip (Trip to Spain is great and you should go see it FYI) franchise for a little while longer.

“Join the celebration. #TransparentTV has been renewed for Season 5.

Amazon Studios very smartly has picked up their critically acclaimed, award winning marquee/flagship/landmark series Transparent from Jill Soloway for its fifth season.

It should be noted that most TV series, in traditional linear TV, would be gunning for syndication at this point and, perhaps, bringing the show to a close.

As streaming services makes the idea of syndication kind of out-dated since you can binge watch the whole series whenever and pretty much wherever you want, the course and duration of a show like Transparent as well as Soloway will likely be followed by several other people making TV moving forward.

The Duplass Brothers’ Room 104 just got a second season.

If Jay and Mark are going to stick to their own rules, we can’t wait to see how they’ll make another whole season that can’t leave Room 104, takes place in one day, and has to be done in a completely different genre/style.

Well, you can rest assure that the last several months will be very rarely regarded as a “good time”.

That being said, it’s kind of a perfect time for BoJack Horseman, an animated comedy that tangles with the human condition in an imaginary universe where the entire animal kingdom is “fully evolved”.

The trailer for season 4, which is coming soon on Friday, September 8th to Netflix, promises a Mr. Peanutbutter storyline that appears to be paralleling 2016 election, even more outlandish chaos with Todd, and, to top it off, a BoJack Horseman who seems more lost than usual.

See for yourself in the trailer here.

It would seem that Bill Burr’s F Is For Family paved the way for animated comedies dealing with childhood, but aren’t necessarily “family friendly”.

From Nick Kroll:

It premieres on @netflix September 29th. I cannot wait for people to see it! Cast includes: me, @johnmulaney @jennyslate #jessiklein #jasonmantzoukas @sordociego (Fred Armisen) #mayarudolph @jordanpeele and many more amazingly talented folks.

Watch these teasers and you’ll see exactly what Kroll is saying.

Big Mouth starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, September 29th.

Snapchat Wants to Get Into Original Programming By End of This Year

It was only a week ago that Apple announced that they’d be spending $1 billion on original content.

Now, Snapchat wants to push forward with their own slate of original programming that doesn’t necessarily seek to replace TV with short form content, but, rather, compliment it.

Details on what exactly that might look like have yet to be released, but 2018 seems like it’ll have more for you to watch than the tons and tons and tons and tons of content currently available to watch/listen to.
