Pick of the Day: The Stepfathers 4 Years Later (in NYC) 5/27

May 13, 2024
News
alex dickson, connor ratliff, improv, nyc comedy, sebastian conelli, shannon o'neill, the stepfathers

One of NYC’s most revered and celebrated improv groups, The Stepfathers, is finally returning to the stage after a long slumber because, well, something happened in 2020. Honestly, NYC improv hasn’t really been the same without them, so let’s hope this is the improv version of Punxsutawney Phil signaling the end of winter coming.

The comedy brilliance of Shannon O’Neill, Connor Ratliff, Alex Dickson & Sebastian Conelli will be assembling at Caveat on Monday, May 27th at 7PM and go above and beyond with “making sad things funny”. Tickets are only $24.41 and, somehow, there are still a few left for you to snag. Better go get them here while you can.

Pick of the Day: The George Lucas Talk Show (in NYC) 10/9

September 15, 2023
News

The arrival of Ahsoka on Disney+ should signal an especially special time for The George Lucas Talk Show since the significance of Ahsoka being a main player in the Star Wars Universe is all at the behest of George Lucas himself. Truly, any excuse for Connor Ratliff to don a beard and a slick, custom souvenir jacket and join a Watto-fied Griffin Newman and Patrick Cotnoir for GLTS is all good with us.

The hysterical, very meta talk show is not as regularly scheduled as it once was, which is why we feel particularly tasked with highlighting when it does come around, especially when it’s playing such a venue as The Bell House. Come Mon. Oct 9th at 7;30PM, Ratliff and company will assemble for GLTS and, who knows, maybe even strike a deal between the WGA, SAG-AFTRA, AMPTP?

Only one way to find out. Go get tickets for $25.42 here before they sell out.

Pick of the Day: The 1st Annual George Lucas Talk Show Star Wars Describe-a-Thon (Live-stream)

News
connor ratliff, describe a thon, george lucas talk show, star wars day

Star Wars Day, May 4th (you know, because “May the fourth be with you” was too good of a pun to pass up) is coming next week and there will be a myriad of things to do to mark the day (though the originally slated release of Obi Wan on Disney+ got pushed to later in the month).

One of those things that you can and should definitely get into if you’re both a Star Wars and comedy fan is Connor Ratliff transforming himself once again into George Lucas for The George Lucas Talk Show to do the 1st Annual Star Wars Day DESCRIBE-A-THON. Since it would be copyright infringement to screen it on Planet Scum, Connor as Lucas, Patrick, Griffin, and guests will describe the vast array of films in the Star Wars cinematic universe, which ought to be a hoot (even if you’re not the big a Star Wars person).

This 1st Annual GLTS Star Wars Day DESCRIBE-A-THON will be set for May 4th at 7:30PM ET/4:30PM PT live-streamed on Planet Scum.

Curious to see how this version of Lucas will describe the digital re-release of the original Star Wars (the one where Lucas digitally added CGI creatures that no one was really asking for.

Oh yeah, they’ll be raising money for Grant Imahara’s Steam Foundation.

Pick of the Day: The George Lucas Talk Show (in LA) 6/3

News

Since it endures through the pandemic as a virtual show on top of it already being a beloved live show in-person for several years before COVID-19 was even a thought, The George Lucas Talk Show should be commended for its resilience, agility, and longevity as well as being thoroughly enjoyed as one of the most humorous curiosities to come in the last 15 years or so.

Connor Ratliff as George Lucas joined by Griffin Newman’s Watto and producer Patrick Cotnoir are actually going to be doing The George Lucas Talk Show live and in-person, once more, in LA, a rare occurrence even without a pandemic. If you’re not anywhere near Dynasty Typewriter, you’ll be happy to know that they’ll also be live-streaming the show as well, which should be pretty swell getting to see/hear it with a live crowd.

This very special live, LA edition (the last one was probably in 2017 or 2018 at UCB Sunset?) of The George Lucas Talk Show is set for Jun. 3rd at Dynasty Typewriter at 8PM PT (streams 8PM PT/11PM ET). Go grab your tickets for $20 right now ($15 for live-stream) here.

Pick of the Day: The Return of George Lucas Talk Show (on Planet Scum) 8/21

News
connor ratliff, patrick cotnoir, planet scum live, virtual comedy

Without a doubt, one of the most dynamic and ever-surprising live-streams during lockdown was The George Lucas Talk Show on Planet Scum. Adapting from the long running live show version, Connor Ratliff and sidekicks Patrick Cotnoir, and Griffin Newman brought all sorts of Lucas universe fueled ridiculousness including entire marathon watch-a-longs that were often done for charity.

Doing a virtual George Lucas Talk Show every Sunday was a tall order, so there was a break a few months back, especially as some things started to open back up. Yet, that wasn’t the last word of GLTS on Planet Scum as, this Saturday, Ratliff is donning his George Lucas attire once more to interview the one and only, venerable and renowned Paul F. Tompkins.

Per usual, the show is free to stream on Planet Scum. Tune in this Sat. Aug. 21st at 5PM PT/8PM ET on Planet Scum.

Pick of the Day: The George Lucas Talk Show Holiday Special 12/20

December 17, 2020
News
connor ratliff, feeding america, george lucas talk show, planet scum

The Sunday before Christmas, The George Lucas Talk Show, Connor Ratliff’s legendary talk show that he hosts as retired filmmaker George Lucas, is going big for a holiday special that will very likely go much better than a certain infamous Star Wars Holiday Special.

This Sunday, Dec. 20th, Ratliff along with The George Lucas Talk Show crew of Patrick Cotnoir and Griffin Newman will be joined by a cavalcade of special guests from far, far away (because aren’t we all far, far away from each other in this pandemic) for a 15 HOUR marathon fundraiser for Feeding America. We have no doubt that there so’s so much up the sleeves of Lucas’ satin bomber jacket that will fill that 15 hour run.

Per @connorratliff:

TWO GOALS FOR THIS SUNDAY’S GEORGE LUCAS TALK SHOW HOLIDAY SPECIAL:

1) to raise at least $20k for @FeedingAmerica

2) to do a 15-hour show that doesn’t feel as long as The Star Wars Holiday Special. (Any tips, @HamillHimself?)

How to give: • http://bit.ly/gltsgives • donate directly, send receipt to thegeorgelucastalkshow@gmail.com

The George Lucas Talk Show Holiday Special starts 7AM PT/10AM ET this Sunday over at Planet Scum.

There Will Be a Marathon of Chris Gethard’s Failed Comedy Central Series “Big Lake” for Charity

News

The archives are definitely being cleaned out while quarantine continues. So many artists of all ilks have been digging through their past works and sharing pieces that have been rarely seen or not seen whatsoever.

This Sunday, The George Lucas Talk Show will be airing Big Lake, the incredibly short lived sitcom on Comedy Central that was supposed to be Chris Gethard’s big debut as a TV star. Connor Ratliff, Griffin Newman, and Patrick Cotnoir of TGLTS have managed to dig up all 10 episodes and will binging them on a marathon this Sunday on Gethard’s digital comedy network Planet Scum as well as talking to cast and creators, no less. For those that miss the days of the old school The Chris Gethard Show, this Sunday afternoon will be for you.

Of this event, Gethard comments, “Up until now, the episodes have been notoriously hard to find. I have no idea how the gang obtained them, let alone how they are distributing. I do know for a fact they tried to upload them to a porn website and they were removed for copyright violation. Big Lake: the show so bad even pornographers won’t trifle with it.”

Also, this Big Lake marathon will be raising money for water.org to bring access to clear water around the world. Tune in at 12PM PT/3PM ET at Planet Scum to join in on the binge watching and inevitable shenanigans at Gethard’s expense.

Only The Chris Gethard Show would come up with such an “innovative” way to do weightlifting that also doubles as a nightmare scenario for host Chris Gethard.

Enjoy what they dubbed “The Gethpress 3000″ here.

Also, for good measure on a fitness themed episode of TCGS, here’s the show’s warm-up Connor Ratliff being forced to do a session of CrossFit.

Connor Ratliff’s The George Lucas Talk Show, the clever and popular reworking of the talk show where he plays, you guessed it, George Lucas as a talk show host is returning to LA once again on Sunday, July 23rd at 9PM at UCB Sunset.

With all the recent Han Solo movie drama that has happened recently, you’ll bet Ratliff’s Lucas will have a thing or two to say.

Tickets are $7 and you can (and should) get them here.

We’re pretty sure that any other comedy election day special isn’t going to be 12 hours long.

That being said, thank goodness that Chris Gethard, the TCGS crew, and comedians Conner O’Malley, Tim Dillon, Jo Firestone, Shannon O’Neill, Maeve Higgins, Langan Kingsley, Brett Davis, Connor Ratliff, Lorelei Ramirez, Ana Fabrega, Kenny DeForest, Jackie Jennings, Murf Meyer, JD Amato, Will Miles, and much more will be giving the lovely alternative to whatever nail-bite inducing coverage is happening elsewhere.

From noon to midnight EST on November 8th, The Manhattan Neighborhood Network Election Special will air at MNN and MNN.org.

Connor Ratliff’s Presidential Run Is Going to Name a New and Different VP Pick Everyday for a Month

A move like this almost approaches being as ridiculous as Trump’s flip-flopping.

Weeks ago, comedian Connor Rafliff announced that he was running for President merely as a joke and with no intention of winning. He actually endorses Hillary Clinton while continuing his campaign.

So, his latest attention-grabbing stunt is to make different a pick for his potential vice presidential running mate for 30 consecutive days.

We think he’s off to a great start with picking every living VP that has served assembled into a “Suicide Squad”.

Connor Ratliff Announces He’s Running for President as “No Party” Candidate Just for the Attention and Already Endorses Hillary Clinton

August 9, 2016
Uncategorized

Officially announced this morning, comedian Connor Ratliff is running, again, for president and immediately admits he has no shot at winning or even getting to 15% in the polls, the absolute minimum required to be in the presidential debates.

As that’s the case, he admits that he is just doing this for the attention, which is an idea that Donald Trump hasn’t and probably will never admit to or even entertain the idea of admitting. Ratliff is going on a platform of asking people to not vote for him or even give him donations, but, instead, give their vote and support to Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. That’s probably one of the nicest things a presidential candidate has done in this election thus far for the competition.

The best part of this whole announcement is probably this paragraph:

Ratliff has openly called for computer hackers to figure out a way to project a hologram of him onto the stage during one of the Presidential debates.  "I don’t know if it’s even technologically possible, but if it can be achieved I think it would be a major display of American know-how,” said Ratliff.  “Even if it was just for me to pop in and say hello and call Donald Trump a name, I think it would be a way of showing that in America, anything is possible.  I think it would give people hope.”

Read the whole press release here.

While he doesn’t want your vote, you can follow his campaign over the next few months on Tumblr and Twitter as well as buy his book, Winning Isn’t Everything: Why I Am Running For President Again… And Why I Will Lose, that explains why he won’t win.

So, far this sounds like a pretty good campaign to us.

Connor Ratliff & Mikey Erg Have Some Anti-Summer Anthems with “Summer Is Not XMAS”

While we’ve been reinforced to enjoy summer due to the scheduling of most schools in this country, there are a good deal of people who don’t enjoy June, July, and August because of the intense heat and the fact that it’s not the holiday season.

If you’ve ever felt alone because you’re an “anti-summer” person, fret no more (except for the part where you hate summer) as Connor Ratliff and Mikey Erg, the guys behind the non-religious holiday album Spirit of Ratliff, have a nice collection of songs that speak to your anathema of summer.

Watch the lyric video for 4th of July: RESURGENCE if you think we’re making all of this up for some reason.

It’s entilted Summer Is Not XMAS, has 7 songs, and can (and should) be downloaded off of Bandcamp right here.

Even the most stubborn of kids might not hate eating vegetables quite like Connor Ratliff does. In Connor’s case, he’s a full grown adult and no one can tell him to eat his veggies or else.

Well, we guess his boss, Chris Gethard, can do that as a condition of interviewing one of Ratliff’s heroes, Tony Hale.

That’s exactly what happened and it’s even more surprising how much Connor can’t stand one of the most important parts of the food pyramid.

Connor Ratliff & Mikey Erg Made a Great Album to Accompany Holiday Season, Especially If You Don’t Like Getting Religious About It

Connor Ratliff, who you’ve probably seen on The Chris Gethard Show or the great web series I’m Too Fragile For This, teamed up with another TCGS alum, Mikey Erg to make a collection of holiday music that isn’t worn down by religious traditions that come around this time of year, but is still very festive.

So, that project turned into a whole album, well a sort of a novella of an album as there are 8 songs spanning 12 minutes.

Still, The Spirit of Ratliff is pretty great and really hits a sweet spot of endearing and funny without going overboard like so much holiday music does. “No One Wants a Pizza on Christmas Day” is a perfect example of how Ratliff and Erg pull that off.

You can get Spirit of Ratliff off of Bandcamp for $7 and you should know that it’s actually a soundtrack to what will be an upcoming Xmas special with Connor.

Get a taste of that with the music video for XMAS is the BEST.

If anything, you’ll be asking probably asking as many questions about this video as you all apparently are for Adele’s actual video for the song.
