Trump vs. Bernie has their second special coming up next week on Wednesday, May 11th at 9PM on Fusion.

Rather than a debate, it’ll be a plethora of fun, subversive sketches, one of which will be posing Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump as the hacktivist group Anonymous.

If that we’re true, the name “Anonymous” would be ironic, right?

We say “yes” to all of this.

After a number of releases off of Secretly Canadian, Tig Notaro is launching an imprint label called Bentzen Ball Records.

The name of the label comedy from “…a guy named Ole Bentzen who apparently died of a heart attack from laughter while watching A Fish Called Wanda,” says Notaro. It’s kind of a perfect story for the name of a comedy record label.

On top of that, the first release should be a doozy as it will be the first album from the fantastic Aparna Nancherla. Called Just Putting It Out There, it will come out July 8th..

See a preview of it here.

So, keep an eye on Bentzen Ball Records in the months to come.

A Brick and Mortar “Simpsons” Store Opens in Beijing

So, the U.S. does some exporting to China, even though all the merchandise is probably made in China.

The Taiko Sanlitun shopping center in Beijing has just opened up an entire store filled with Simpsons collectibles, apparel, memorabilia, etc. The opening comes at an interesting time as Chinese television and movies are starting to outperform their Hollywood counterparts more and more. However, the global appeal of The Simpsons is undeniable.

This is, as far as we know, the first brick and mortar Simpsons Store in the world, aside from gift shops in the Simpsons-themed Springfield in Universal Studios Florida. As that’s the case, you might want to drop by if you just happen to be in Beijing.

Netflix Orders “Dear White People” Adaptation Straight-to-Series

Good for Netflix in going, as far as we can tell, for the series order right away.

The satirical comedy Dear White People from Justin Simien will now be adapted into a TV series on Netflix. Simien is getting 10 episodes for this first season.

Given how much he was able to do with playing with racial tensions in a feature film, we can only ponder what he’ll be able to do with the latitude of a series on a streaming service.

Hulu Orders Another Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Election Special

We’re pretty confident this will outdo most other election coverage just like the first one did.

There’s not a lot to be happy about in this election. Even the onslaught of seemingly mandated comedy based off of the sad joke that the current presidential race is getting a little trying.

That being said, Robert Smigel with Triumph the Insult Comic Dog in hand was one of a few bright spots with the Hulu election special. Announced today, Smigel/Triumph will be doing another election special for the streaming service, which, from the looks of it, will probably be following Hillary Clinton vs. Donald Trump.

We’re sure that if they visit the GOP convention, whatever happens will be priceless.

The new season of IFC’s Maron is taking the series to possibly its darkest (and possibly most fun) turn yet. Marc has kind of lost everything and in trying to put himself back together, he’s got a great deal unforeseen obstacles ahead of them.

One of those obstacles is the last sort of person that Marc would really want as a roommate (on top of Marc being the sort of person who doesn’t do well with roommates).

Season 4 of Maron premieres this Wednesday at 9PM on IFC.

Louis C.K. Says He’ll Be Making His Money Back on “Horace and Pete”

May 3, 2016
Uncategorized
horace and pete, louis c.k.

This means he still is pushing forward in revolutionizing television as we know it.

With a ten-episode first season that came out of his pocket (and a credit line that he had to open up), Louis C.K.’s original series Horace and Pete gained plenty of critical acclaim and went reportedly millions of dollars in the red.

For any of those worried that C.K.’s experimentation in new forms of media distribution was at risk, you might have started worrying a little too soon.

Louis went on The Tonight Show last night and told Jimmy Fallon that he is set to make his money back on the show in about a month.

That’s not quite gangbusters, but it does mean that Louis has broke even independently creating, producing, and distributing his own TV show on his own digital platform.

It’s a feat, milestone that will be a major part in ushering in the new era of television where the lines between streaming services, networks, creators, etc. are blurred. Undoubtedly, C.K. will try more genre-bending shows, films, and otherwise on LouisCK.net very soon.

Earlier this year, we reported on an enticing R-rated animated feature in the works called The Adventures of Drunky that follows a bet for the fate of the planet between God and The Devil and a drunk.

From top billing to cameos, the cast is stellar including Sam Rockwell, Steve Coogan, Jeffrey Tambor, Dave Attell, Tyler The Creator, Abby Elliott, John Leguizamo, Jon Glaser, Jay Pharoah, Noel Wells, and James Adomian.

Sounds pretty great, right?

Well, Augenblick Studios has the script done and the dialogue recorded, but need funds to finish animating the whole thing. Thus, an Indiegogo campaign was born.

So far, they’ve raised $27,331 at the time of this post out of their minimum $100K goal. That will get them through the next step of production, but they’re looking to raise $2 million to finish the entire movie. They have just over three weeks to reach their goal and have fabulous rewards at various donations levels including lunch with Jeffrey Tambor, a personal insult voicemail from Dave Attell, digital copy of the movie and more.

Here’s God, as voiced by Jeffrey Tambor, and director Aaron Augenblick filling you in on all the details.

You can (and should) donate here.
