Jena Friedman’s Very Relevant and Hilarious “American C*nt” Now Available as an Album

Now, American C*nt is available as an album and you can just buy and listen to it over and over without subscribing to anything. You can (and very much should) get it off of iTunes here.

Last year, Jena Friedman recorded and released an amazing hour special on Seeso entitled American C*nt where she expertly dove into gender inequality in a darkly comedic and clever way.

She did a record it in a much more hopeful time where the idea of Trump becoming President was far from the reality it is now, but this hour from Jena is still as great and relevant now that the previously unimaginable has happened.

Kate Berlant, John Early, and Andrew DeYoung are giving a special sneak preview of their upcoming Vimeo web series, 555, next Wednesday at Cinefamily.

It’s a collection of short films that fall under the umbrella of the surreal that is Hollywood starring Berlant and Early, two comedians that tangle with the surreal with abandon.

You can (and should) get tickets here.

In general I’m interested in seeing if the Trump presidency will be shocking enough to finally see the emergence of comedy that is politically dangerous and appropriately disrespectful of power, like the situation demands, and like we really needed all along.

I’m looking forward to mainstream television continuing its decline, to the point where publicist-driven celebrity non-satire is ignored in favor of the more dangerous stuff we’re seeing in live comedy (and some podcasts like Chapo Trap House), and where this underground culture could very well overtake the official televised culture that has failed so thoroughly to matter.

As this latest webisode of Hack Into Broad City shows, Abbi and Ilana have made it through the inauguration and we’re all still here.

There’s a pretty great, searing rant of the Trump inauguration there too.

Also, by the way, new Broad City will be coming this year.

20th Century Women to Donate 5% of Revenue to Planned Parenthood This Weekend

There are so many good reasons to go see Mike Mills’ brilliant film 20th Century Women.

It’s as beautiful and life-affirming and relevant as it is downright funny.

Also, for this historic weekend, you’ll be supporting Planned Parenthood if you go see it.

So, once you’re done marching, protesting, etc. for the day, perhaps go watch 20th Century Women.

We hope that you’ve been to one of the many amazing benefit shows that has taken place since the election (and we’re glad to see that there have been a lot).

Plenty more benefit shows will be coming through while under the Trump Administration, like Pussy Control next Sunday at Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. Phoebe Robinson, Guy Branum, Wendy Ho, and hosts Kyle June Williams and Brooke Van Poppelen are on a very stacked bill.

Tickets are $20 with a $4 service charge and you should get them here.

Basically, Sklarbro County packed it up at Earwolf (note: Sklarbro Country is still proceeding as usual on Earwolf), changed its name to Dumb People Town, and moved to Feral Audio.

Jason Sklar, Randy Sklar, Daniel Van Kirk, and a guest all riff on stories on dumb people doing dumb things that make the news like they have for hundreds episode, but just under the new and more appropriate moniker, Dumb People Town.

Their first episode with guest Nick Thune is up at Feral Audio now and has, as you might have grown accustomed to, plenty of top shelf riffing.

The artifice of the 3 microphones, each dedicated to one-liners, bits, and stories give transparency to the structure within the art form of stand-up comedy that has been rarely seen. It also showing the many different facets of what makes up and drives Neal Brennan, both as a comedians and a person.

All of those elements mixed together make for a special, 3 Mics, that you should definitely watch as it’s now streaming on Netflix.

Athletes that have found a new home in Tinseltown, Blake Griffin and Ryan Kalil, will be joining Barris in remaking the 1992 comedy classic.

We wonder if Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes will make a cameo as the street ball legends they try hustling at the end of the original movie.

John Oliver and his crack staff at Last Week Tonight couldn’t come back sooner this year.

However, we have a few more weeks before Oliver takes up his desk behind one of the best satirical news shows ever on television. Season 4 of Last Week Tonight premieres on Sunday, February 12th at 11PM.

While we won’t have an episode of Last Week Tonight commenting on the inauguration of Trump right after it happens, Oliver made a great teaser (some might say pretty, pretty good) to tide us over in the meantime.

Will & Grace Will Be Returning to NBC for 10 Episodes

January 18, 2017
Uncategorized

Of the shows that have been revived recently due to nostalgia and popularity of the show’s cast in other projects, a return of Will & Grace seems to be uniquely positioned to be a benefactor of a “Trump effect”.

That is to say that the show’s premise and characters which include two gay men, a straight woman, a member of the 1%, and an immigrant maid living and dealing with each other will probably be commenting (especially given their recent mini-reunion) on what America under the Trump Administration is like, which people will likely want to see.

It’s the sort of thing that we’d hope multi cam sitcoms would be doing these days.

Here’s a bit of a preview that was shown at NBC’s TCA presentation. Look for 10 new episodes of Will & Grace with the whole cast back later this year.

Netflix Makes Another Big Deal for a Comedian, This Time, with Jerry Seinfeld that Includes Two Specials, Series Development, and Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee

Netflix is actually getting a really big 10th season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (24 episodes) as well as getting exclusive rights to all of the episodes from the previous 9 seasons. The prospect of series development and two stand-up specials (and we’re sure a hefty payday) must have been too nice to pass up for Seinfeld who was sitting atop the Crackle hilltop.

If you’re keeping score, Netflix  nowhas Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Amy Schumer, and Jerry Seinfeld on deck for comedy specials this year.

We’re only in January of 2017, but it seems Netflix has taken most of the cake when it comes to the big time comedy specials. In fact, would be hard to imagine them not being to able to have and eat their cake in this scenario.

TV Land will be serving up a brand new hour block of comedy tonight that includes the newest member of late night, Throwing Shade, and season 2 of their dark comedy Teachers.

Specifically, Teachers will be at 10PM and Throwing Shade at 10:30PM just in case you decide to watch it live on air rather than find it streaming somewhere later.

If all goes well, TV Land might have found new ground to stand on with the ever increasing field of cable TV comedy.

Vine App Discontinued and Has Now Become the Vine Camera

Vine App Discontinued and Has Now Become the Vine Camera

“On January 17 the Vine app will become the Vine Camera. We will notify you through the app before this happens. The Vine Camera will allow you to make 6.5 second looping videos and post them to Twitter, or save them to your camera roll in a logged out state. You will not be able to do any of the other things you can currently do with the Vine app. Once the Vine Camera is live, you will no longer be able to download your Vines from the app. “

Maintaining the looping video function, but then forcing it to be fed through Twitter to be shared is Twitter’s way of catching up with Instagram and Snapchat, right? Snapchat already has exclusive comedy content through their app, including a few series from Comedy Central, leaving a lot of ground to cover for a Vine Camera + Twitter combo.

We’ll just have to wait and see if the hardcore Vine users will stick with this new format or if they’ve already jumped ship to other apps and will keep it that way.

Comedy Central Renews Drunk History for a Fifth Season

Amidst the flurry of TCA announcements this past weekend (including Comedy Central’s series order of The Gorburger Show), you’ll be happy to know that comedians will be getting drunk and trying to share a history lesson while it’s “perfectly” reenacted for a fifth season on Drunk History.

The new season is set to premiere later this year.

This past weekend, Gallery 1988 held an art show in tribute to the one and only Rick and Morty on Adult Swim. Several artists made some pretty amazing pieces as you can see above and below.

The opening was this past weekend and had, as you can imagine, a very long line. So, if you wanted to see all the works on display, you can see them online at Gallery 1988 and maybe even buy some pieces (if they’re not already sold out).
