Please Listen to/Witness the Wild Story of Jamie Loftus’ My Year in Mensa

For what started off as a sort of stunt for a writing assignment, “a bit” if you will, the hysterical comedian/writer/animator/podcaster Jamie Loftus got herself into quite a quagmire by testing into the high IQ society known as Mensa.

A year of her life was thrown into a tizzy as she became the subject of ridicule from certain factions within Mensa, only to meet up with some of them and get surprised even further. Jamie recounts all of what happens as well as some of the history of Mensa and IQ tests in general in this podcast mini-series, My Year in Mensa.

The four episodes is as captivating as it is funny and illuminating not only about Mensa, but the idea of identity and being inclusive/exclusive. Give My Year in Mensa a listen wherever you listen to podcasts.

Sure we all know and loathe Internet trolls, but the anonymity of the Internet keeps their actual day-to-day lives largely a mystery (though it’s hard to imagine that it’s anything all that desirable).

So, Henry Zebrowski (Last Podcast on the Left, Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell) along with Natalie Jean and Seena Ghaznavi had created a 5 ep. web mini-series called Trollville that imagines the sort of life that someone who spends much of their day obsessing over ruining everyone else’s day online.

From the looks of the trailer, Zebrowski seems to play an Internet troll perfectly.

If you’re digging it, you can buy/rent eps. of Trollville on Vimeo on Demand right now.

Netflix Will Be Poking Fun at Themselves with Mockumentary “American Vandal”

Much of Netflix’s success can be attributed to series like true crime docu-series Making a Murderer and The Keepers.

That being the case, Netflix want to take parodies of their hit series into their own hands. Thus, Tony Yacenda (Pillow Talking), Dan Perrault (Honest Trailers, one of the Internet’s best parody series), and Dan Lagana (from the highly underrated Zach Stone Is Gonna Be Famous) made this new mockumentary series, American Vandal.

Think of it as a bit of a cross between Making a Murderer and Superbad.

See for yourself in the trailer.

American Vandal streams on Netflix starting on Friday, September 15th.

It’s a collection of short films that fall under the umbrella of the surreal that is Hollywood starring Berlant and Early, two comedians that tangle with the surreal with abandon.

You can (and should) get tickets here.

Kate Berlant and John Early Have a Surrealist Comedy Mini Series “555″ Coming to Vimeo and It Just Got a Trailer

The duo of Kate Berlant and John Early with director Andrew DeYoung are a comedy power trio that needs to be on all of your radars.

Both Berlant and Early have already gotten to do works separately on Netflix’s Characters and DeYoung has directed both of them before in such fine work as Dinner Party.

Their latest collaboration will arrive in the form of a Vimeo on Demand mini-series of short films called 555.  (the series’ focus on “a stark, humid, surreality of Hollywood,” probably suggests the 555 to be a reference to the three digit prefix that signifies a fake telephone number primarily used in movies and television.)

Get a delicious taste of what’s in store for 555 in this trailer, then you can buy (or pre-order) all five episodes for $3.99 at Vimeo on Tuesday, January 31st.
