chris gethard, tcgs, the chris gethard show

If you think about it, if The Chris Gethard Show was to be handed off to someone in its entirety, it would be unofficial, unauthorized, and keep the name even though someone not named Chris Gethard would be hosting, right?

Well, that’s what happening at the Lyric Hyperion on Fri., Feb. 8th at 8PM with the very, very funny Robby Hoffman (former writer and featured performer on TCGS).

Chris Gethard’s official statement on this whole happening is as follows:

“I am not involved in this and don’t really understand why it’s happening or what it is, but I love Robby, so go for broke. Again, this show in no way reflects, represents, or is The Chris Gethard Show.”

Whatever happens, we’re sure it’ll be some damn fun, controlled chaos (which is the true spirit of TCGS, isn’t it?). Go get tickets for the show for $8 here.

When it comes to setting the mood in comedy, few pay as much attention to detail as Todd Glass (there’s a whole mini-doc about it).

Thus, he might be the perfect choice for a Valentine’s Day comedy show, which, thankfully for you, is happening at the world famous Hollywood Improv. In fact, whether you’re in a relationship or not, we’ll bet that Todd will make it a great night.

You can (and should) get tickets (there is a 2 item min.) here.

The legendary storytelling/new material show Uncabaret (it has been running for a quarter of a century) is settling into its new home in Los Feliz at the swanky Rockwell Table & Stage.

That being said, it’s not a weekly affair anymore and thus, we’re keeping an eye out for you for the show’s upcoming dates including this one near the end of March with yet another stacked line-up (from several different generations of comedy by the way).

Anyways, tickets are going from $10-$30 (plus a 2-item min.) and you can get your tickets here.

We sincerely hope that Eddie Pepitone goes down in comedy history as one of the greats. Pepitone is a truly electrifying performer that somehow makes every performance special and enthralling even if you know some of the material by heart.

Thus, you should definitely be in the room when his latest special is being taped next month at Dynasty Typewriter. There are two shows on Sat., Feb. 16th, 8PM & 10PM, that you can attend. Also, Dana Gould will be featuring and Caitlin Gill will be hosting, which might just be more brilliant comedy than we all deserve.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door and you can and very much should get them here and here respectively

Looks like the Inner Sanctum at UCB Sunset (which we’d like to note can feel more intimate than the main stage next door at times) is having more stacked shows these days.

Presented by UCB co-founder Matt Walsh, Dodo’s Retirement Party will be a variety show as well as a tribute to “Dolores (Dodo) Portencasso” as she retires from “Corn Products”. Oh yeah, the line-up just happens to be, as we mentioned before, pretty damn stacked (see flyer above).

For years, we’ve enjoyed Some Kinda Monster’s improv extravaganza known as Dramedy. On one show, some of the best teams around town improvise based off carefully curated, out-of-context TV and film drama clips. Then, Some Kinda Monster themselves does a wonderful improvised episode of Law & Order.

They’re about to a last show at the venue where they started, The Clubhouse in Los Feliz, (they’re keeping their UCB slot FYI) and, as such, will be stacking the line-up with a whole bunch of our favorite teams as follows:

SOME KINDA MONSTER **performing Law and Order**
Jacquis Neal, Dan Prevette, Kara Luiz, Skot Phillips, Noah Holcomb, Christine Renaud, Ryan Coil, Emily Dahm

ROCOCO
Jake Sprague, Lilan Bowden, Ego Nwodim, Londale Theus Jr, Cody Kopp, Heather Woodward, Hillary Anne Matthews, Dhruv Uday Singh, Rose O’Shea

TOLEDO REP
Johnny Meeks, Joel Spence, Suzi Barrett, Tricia McAlpin, Eugene Cordero, Billy Merritt, Timm Sharp, Julia Meltzer, Talia Tabin

WHITE WOMEN

So much of the weird comedy that you know and love today could trace a pretty much direct line all the way back to Ernie Kovacs (go down a YouTube rabbit hole and you’ll see what we’re saying) and the UCLA Film and Television Archive is doing a two night retrospective of the TV comedy pioneer

At the Billy Wilder Theater, they’ll be “…presenting two evenings of Ernie programming entitled Kovacsland Forever: Ernie Kovacs Centennial to the Billy Wilder Theater in Westwood. On Friday, the archive will screen a variety of Kovacs clips and programs on the big screen. Some of his most iconic comedy and some very rare clips will be screened. The evening will also feature a panel discussion with Moderator Susan King and yours truly, who runs the Kovacs estate. On Saturday, the archive will screen one of Kovacs best known & best films Our Man in Havana.”

Tickets for either night, 7:30PM both at Fri., Jan. 18th & Sat., Jan. 19th, are $10 each and you can (and really should) get them here.
