While one of our actual favorite monthly shows has to be in hiatus for now because of, well, you know why at this point, that isn’t stopping The Super Serious Show from keeping the ball in the air with something inventive, substantive, enlightening, and fun.

We’ve already gave you the low down on Super Serious: An Oral History of Los Angeles Independent Stand-Up Comedy and why it’s very likely our favorite coffee table book in recent memory. It’s currently up for pre-order and shipping out next week, Tue. Aug. 18th.

Once again, you really ought to get it if you like comedy at all.

As part of the book’s release, Mandee Johnson will be doing an exclusive event via Book Soup on Thu. Aug. 20th at 6PM PT/9PM ET that will be a conversation about the breadth of LA comedy history within the book, but also feature a damn fine line-up of guests including Dave Anthony, Sara Schaefer, Chris Garcia, and Christina Catherine Martinez as the pro art critic/comedian moderator.

OK, you’ve got the first Super Serious Show (as we’ve said many times, one of our favorite shows in town) of 2019 with a line-up that includes Max Silvestri, Chris Garcia, Open Mike Eagle, Sara Schaefer, Demetri Martin AND a whole other separate show of Rory Scovel doing an hour.

That’s all for the price of one ticket folks ($7 in adv., $10 cash at door). If you’d want anymore out of this, it’s quite possible that you might just be a bit greedy.

For decades now, the ‘yo mama’ joke has been used time and time again to insult the matriarch of someone’s family in a verbal fight that has often turned to childlike tactics.

However, as with all forms of expression, subtlety, nuance, and more get worked in and often turn the original idea of something like a yo mama joke on its head.
