Pick of the Day: Tomorrow with Ron Lynch 15th Anniversary

July 23, 2020
News
brendon small, brian barlow, chris walsh, craig anton, davey johnson, david arquette, fred armisen, kate micucci, katie crown

You’ve seen that many annual, big time, tent pole events are opting to go virtual because of the global pandemic rather than just entirely postpone or cancel their plans for 2020. Comic-Con and JFL are indeed going to live-stream events and the same will be true of Tomorrow with Ron Lynch, the LA comedy variety treasure that has been faithfully bringing the weird/wonderful/hilarious to LA crowds every Saturday night now for 15 years.

This first virtual anniversary of Tomorrow with Ron Lynch will take place on Instagram Live where host Ron Lynch has been keeping Tomorrow going for months now @ronlynch1 on Saturdays at 11PM PT/2AM EST.

For the anniversary shows, they always round up some big guests as well as their all time favorites and this time is no different. Here’s the line-up for this Saturday’s 15 Year Anniversary:

Fred Armisen
David Arquette
Kate Micucci
Brendon Small
Craig Anton
Brett Loudermilk
Bangs the Clown
Jay London
THE CORE 4
Chris Walsh
Katie Crown
Brian Barlow
Davey Johnson
Michael Mortilla
Martin Olson
You might not get the complimentary food or cheap toys/party favors that normally come with every Tomorrow anniversary, but the delightfully strange spirit of Tomorrow with Ron Lynch will definitely be there like it always has been, whether virtually or in person.

Again, tune in on Sat. Jul. 25th at 11PM PT/2AM EST @ronlynch1 on IG Live

When it comes to keeping a show unpredictable, few are as good as Chris Walsh, Katie Crown, and Davey Johnson.

Trepany House is giving the trio their own night along with a stellar line-up of Karen Kilgariff, Laura Kightlinger, John Ennis, Lizzy Cooperman, and Anna Seregina.

As to what this show might be, the show description reads, “Mystery. Machination. Murder? It all points to one thing… AN INTRIGUING NIGHT OF INTRIGUE.”

That all sounds pretty swell to us, so get your tickets here.

Jon Dore Gets the Worst Undercover Backstory

From the minds of Adam Brodie, Dave Derewlany, and Jon Dore comes this great, dark sketch at JASH that explores the worst possible backstory that one could get in trying to escape from hostile territory. Maria Bamford and Katie Crown, who are also featured, really drive the point home.

Please watch and enjoy it here.

9) It has come to the attention of the Comedy Bureau that two videos in particular on Osama Bin Laden’s death featuring the amazing Table of Galaxies (the hilarious duo of James Adomian and Whitest Kids U Know’s Trevor Moore) and Hasan Minhaj didn’t get nearly enough press (even though they’ve already been posted here) due to the political nature of the humor in them.  Interestingly enough, we have not vilified Bin Laden the same way we have Adolf Hitler.  Hitler is one of the “go to” references for evil incarnate and Bin Laden is far from that.  It’s not like when Indiana Jones met Hitler when there was no doubt that Indy is looking into the face of evil.  The annoucement of Osama Bin Laden’s death in the social networking age where “no stone goes unturned” and subsequently made fun of brought about jokes about the death of Osama Bin Laden explore the mythos behind Osama Bin Laden, even questioning whether he really died or not.  Watch the two videos below and think about it.

Katie Crown-Tip of the Hat-6/4

June 5, 2011
Uncategorized
canada, comedienne, just for laughs montreal, katie crown, profile, scooby doo

The Comedy Bureau “Tips Its Hat” this week to KATIE CROWN.

Not to be presumptuous, but it’s almost near impossible to not laugh, smile, and end up adoring Katie Crown if you catch her performing.  Instantly likeable from her first laugh at herself when she takes the stage, Crown is an original and endearing type of hilarious that’s so rare and refreshing to see, especially amongst a predominating trend of comedy that’s dark, personal, and/or visceral.

Katie owns up to her “prankster” label, though she makes sure her performances are absolutely all in good spirits.  She doesn’t go out into the audience, pick on people in the front row, but does take everyone on a wonderfully absurd ride through her observations of a world that she’s made up.  Her bits touch upon such things like Scooby Doo in OB/GYN check ups and imagining that people are singing in conversation like a real life musical.  Yes, there is plenty of goofy singing in Katie’s act, but it’s all mixed together in such a way that’s hysterical with no regard to age.

Having earned some comedy stripes from appearing at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and opening for the likes of Zach Galifianakis, Paul F. Tompkins, and Neil Hamburger, Crown has made her way to Los Angeles, delighting people one room at a time.  I caught her at the always superb Josh & Josh Show wandering through her delightfully bizarre material.  Throughout her set, as mentioned before, Katie has such an immediate affinity with the crowd that she could be silly as she wanted and the crowd literally loved it.

I remember one guy (and though everything written her might suggest otherwise, it’s not me) wandering around after the show looking for Crown so he could say that he had fell in love with her.

If you’ve never seen Katie Crown before on account of her only recently transplanting to Los Angeles from Canada, please check her calendar frequently at KatieCrown.com.  In fact, you can start to tomorrow night at Powerviolence at the Complex in Hollywood 8:30PM for completely free.
