When it comes to a grouping of comedians going on tour, all sorts of angle that depend on style of comedy, status in comedy, ethnicity, class, etc. etc. have been tried.

Yet, a very, very solid comedic trio of Rory Scovel, Nick Youssef, and Freddy Scott are diving into new territory by doing a whole tour for the expressed purpose of seeing legendary prog metal band Tool on their current tour.

Literally, this is following your bliss to the nth degree and we applaud them for it (and think it’s a comedy tour that you’ll want to catch across the country if you can). Go snag your tickets now at the wonderfully named tour site: https://www.nottoolband.com/

Tonight’s What’s the Story with Todd and Rory? where you could have seen Rory Scovel make up an entire hour of comedy with Todd Glass is unfortunately sold out.

Fortunately, you’ll have another chance (you actually will have two) to catch Rory Scovel performing an hour in LA. If you’re in the school-of-thought-that-believes-you-should-catch-any-and-all Rory Scovel performances (as they’re a perfect mix a brilliant material and brilliant riffing), you need to clear out your plans for Aug. 26th and Sept. 3rd.

Tickets for Rory Scovel: Live at the Virgil are $5 now and $8 cash at the door.

Tickets for Rory Scovel: Live at Lyric Hyperion Theatre & Cafe are $7 now and $10 cash at the door.

Snag those tickets at the links above before they very likely sell out!

You might have heard that beloved comedian Jason Saenz had a horrific fall that resulted in a severe spinal injury a few months ago and that the accident occurred just right before he took on a gig that would have covered his medical expenses. While there was a gracious outpouring of support a few months ago and over $184K has been raised, he still needs help as other complications and the general cost still hasn’t been covered (it’s an estimated $300K).

So, three benefit shows together as The Jason Saenz Benefit Extravaganza will happen around the country to raise money for Jason. Here in LA, on April 1st, a show that’s so unbelievably stacked with LA comedy gems (really, take a long gander at that flyer) on top being hosted by legendary comedy group Murderfist.

Please go get your tickets for what we’ll be a very special show for a great cause. If you’d like to donate to Jason’s recovery now, you can do so at his GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/jason-saenz-recovery-fund-aka-saenz-spinez.

The second every LIVE Pen Pals podcast taping will happen Saturday, March 23rd at UCB Franklin at 10PM #GrowtheShow. That’s right, your Pen Pals hosts Rory Scovel and Daniel Van Kirk (in that order because of the logo only) will be answering letters and post cards (that’s for pennies and pal-ers that show up to the show) live #FTF in person, in real time.

Yes, in case you didn’t know, Rory and Daniel have been answering letters as pen pals on a podcast for several months now and it has been so damn good. In fact, they got to be marshals at a parade because of it.

So, do not miss out on going #FTF and get your tickets ($12) right here right now.

OK, you’ve got the first Super Serious Show (as we’ve said many times, one of our favorite shows in town) of 2019 with a line-up that includes Max Silvestri, Chris Garcia, Open Mike Eagle, Sara Schaefer, Demetri Martin AND a whole other separate show of Rory Scovel doing an hour.

That’s all for the price of one ticket folks ($7 in adv., $10 cash at door). If you’d want anymore out of this, it’s quite possible that you might just be a bit greedy.

Anyways, this undoubtedly will be an amazing night and you should go get your tickets here now.

Later This Year, There Apparently Will Be a Doc About Rory Scovel Doing an Entirely Improvised Performance

There are few details as we only heard this mentioned briefly in passing on the latest episode of the delightful podcast Pen Pals with Daniel and Rory (#GrowTheShow), but, apparently, there is a documentary in the works following the one and only Rory Scovel doing an entire performance (we’re assuming an hour) of stand-up entirely made up on the spot.

It was shot in Atlanta and Scovel called it a doc rather than a traditional comedy special, which leaves a lot to the imagination. Fortunately, when it comes to imagining what Rory does untethered to material, the possibilities are endless (and usually one of the funniest things you’ve ever seen like the time we saw him riff on concrete for 10 minutes).

The picture above is not from the doc, but just something we snapped recently because Rory came out on stage with a Bible he found backstage and was threatening to make the comedy show a Bible study of sorts. It’s the sort of magic that Rory is just great at creating.

We’ll keep you in the loop as more details emerge.

Comedy Central Orders Eponymous Awkwafina Project and Robbie Starring and Co-Written by Rory Scovel to Series

Comedy Central Orders Eponymous Awkwafina Project and Robbie Starring and Co-Written by Rory Scovel to Series

This pair of series orders for Awkwafina and Robbie at Comedy Central puts a smile on our faces over here at the Bureau.

Awkwafina continues Akwafina’s hot streak from Ocean’s 8, Crazy Rich Asians, and SNL to having her very own sitcom based on her salad days in Brooklyn. Robbie (co-written by Anthony King) also puts the amazing Rory Scovel in a role that we’ve already imagined him doing so well, a highly pressured youth basketball league coach. That’s probably because we’ve seen him riff out a hilarious half time speech on stage at least a few times.

Also, we’re pretty psyched for supporting roles from BD Wong and Beau Bridges in each show respectively.

We’ll be waiting as patiently as we can for their trailers to get that first taste of what’s to come.

For two seasons, The Grawlix (Adam Cayton-Holland, Ben Roy, and Andrew Orvedahl), Maria Thayer, and Rory Scovel have made a dysfunctional, yet fictional high school seem like a pretty splendid place to be.

As the premiere of their third season on Monday, January 14th, 2019 approaches, the administrative gang of Smoot High looks to do it once again, perhaps topping themselves this time around.

See for yourself in the season 3 Those Who Can’t trailer here.

We’re still smiling about the new web series Please Understand Me from Steve Feinartz and Ahamed Weinberg, EP’d by Sarah Silverman that was released this week on Facebook Watch.

Seriously, it’s fantastic.

Anyhow, if you’re in LA and don’t want to wait in the coming weeks for new episodes, you can go to a live screening of the whole series (including episodes for the pilot presentation) at the Lyric Hyperion in Silverlake (2106 Hyperion Ave., Los Angeles, CA) on Saturday, June 9th at 8PM. We were lucky enough to go to the premiere screening and it’s such a damn good time watching it in a crowd.

Tickets are $10 and you really ought to get them here.

The idea of showing comedians in therapy gets taken to the next level with Please Understand Me from the brilliant duo of Ahamed Weinberg and Steven Feinartz.

In this web series, fictional stories are made up for pairs of comedians who sit down with actual therapists, accented with colorful interstitial flashbacks. Of course, the stories themselves are perfectly ridiculous and played to perfection by a great cast, which includes many of our favorite comedy folks such as Rory Scovel, Natalie Palamides, Mo Collins, Fred Melamed, Steph Tolev, Ismael Loutfi, Ahamed, Juzo Yoshida, Chad Damiani, Phil Burgers, and Punkie Johnson.

Go enjoy Please Understand Me’s first two episodes right now on Facebook Watch and check back weekly for new episodes.

Reggie Watts, Kate Berlant, and Rory Scovel Will Be Improvising Their Sitcom Crowe’s Nest via Livestream This Thursday

If you remember from Reggie Watts last special Spatial, there was a portion of it that included an abstract parody of a sitcom.

If you haven’t seen Spatial, stop reading and go watch it as it is an hour of pure Reggie in the best way possible.

So, this Thursday, thanks to Butcher Bird Studios, Reggie, Rory Scovel, and Kate Berlant will get to an extended version of them going around in the form of a traditional sitcom.

We have no idea what’s going to happen (as it will be fully improvised), but we’re sure that it will be tomfoolery of the highest degree and shouldn’t be missed.

You can catch it at https://www.youtube.com/reggiewatts at 9PM (with a “pre-show” at 8PM)
