Pick of the Day: Microdose 2 Year Anniversary (in LA) 4/10

April 6, 2024
News
curtis cook, free show, harper rose drummond, howard kremer, kelcey ayer, lizzy cooperman, los angeles comedy, mike bridenstine, rory scovel, stand up comedy

The ways of the world and how the winds of change violently shove anything and everything out of place, the prospect of anything lasting past a year is a significant feat. One Mike Bridenstine, beloved LA comedian/author (get the Perfect Amount of Wrong now)/podcaster, has not only had his weekly stand-up show Microdose, neatly perched on the hills of Eagle Rock at The Fable, but has worked it into a party of a show kicked off along with the host seemingly made out of pure hosting energy, Danny Ledsinger.

Microdose has grown into quite the contender with Bridenstine’s handpicked line-ups as a weekly stand-up showcase in LA, especially on Wednesday nights when a dearth of the LA comedy scene’s primo indie stand-up shows take place (on top of surviving through the aftermath of COVID lockdown, multiple strikes, historic rain for LA over the last two years). Microdose is crowning their two year anniversary this coming Wednesday at, per usual, 8PM, but with a gargantuan line-up including Rory Scovel, Lizzy Cooperman, Howard Kremer, Curtis Cook, Harper Rose Drummond, Kelcey Ayer, and David Jackson.

Please enjoy Microdose this coming Wednesday for their 2 year celebration (and every Wednesday after). Keep up with line-ups and more @microdosecomedy on IG.

Pick of the Day: Comedy Dynamics Festival Tapings (near LA) 4/5-4/9

April 3, 2023
News
comedy dynamics, comedy festival, comedy special, el portal theatre, free show, los angeles comedy, solo show, tv taping

To throw a comedy festival in LA, you have to bring something special to the table. The fact that there’s a festival’s worth of live comedy on a nightly basis (now that everything venue/show/etc. has returned after the pandemic) hasn’t really changed throughout the Greater LA Area.

With that in mind, Comedy Dynamics, one of the biz leader’s when it comes to producing comedy specials, is putting an entire eponymous festival this week, run out of NoHo’s El Portal Theatre that relies on their expertise. That’s right, it’s an entire week of comedy special tapings that hopes to capture lightning in a bottle from their favorites sourced from coast-to-coast including Samantha Ruddy, Cara Connors, Subhah Agarwal, Rachel Scanlon, Mary Basmadjian, Leah Rudick, Laurie Kilmartin, and Kylie Brakeman.

As it’s all tapings, the festival just so happens to be free to attend (so long as you RSVP) leaving you very little reason not to go. This Comedy Dynamics Festival runs from this Wed. Apr. 5th through Sun. Apr. 9th and you can RSVP for individual shows/tapings here.

In this particular edition that’s coming right after Valentine’s Day, Super Dating Simulator will be taking on a love story appropriate for our times, Love! at the Demon Hunter Agency, and will be bringing it to DTLA’s Alamo Drafthouse on Thurs. Feb. 16th at 8PM.

Best of all, the show is completely free to attend. Get more details and stay on top of Super Dating Simulator updates @superdatingsimulator on IG.

News
Anna Seregina & Kyle Mizono, blamblamblam, brian kiley, brodie reed, chris thayer, comedy show, free show, james adomian, k town, los angeles comedy, max beasley, ron lynch, stand up comedy, steph tolev, Vanessa Jeha

In November 2021, we thought we had reached a threshold where we all the things that we knew and love in comedy could somewhat return to happening as regularly scheduled pre-pandemic.

Then, Omicron hit and set most folks/shows/etc. back for months. Thankfully, we’re back to where they rescheduled their shows to or decided to return again and that includes one of LA’s torch bearing shows, Blamblamblam. Faithfully housed in what seems like the lower decks of tall ship in K-Town’s one and only R-Bar, Blam has offered up an otherworldly monthly comedy show for almost a decade and a half.

There’s such a mystical energy to it even when it’s simply a well curated collection of comedians from many corners and disciplines of the art form by one DeMorge Brown. This 2nd return of Blamblamblam is set for this Tues. Apr. 19th at 9PM ish PT (doors at 7PM PT) and a barnburner of a line-up including Ron Lynch, Brodie Reed, Max Beasley, Anna Seregina & Kyle Mizono, Chris Thayer, James Adomian, Vanessa Jeha, Steph Tolev, Brian Kiley, and host Paul Danke & resident mischief starter Davey Johnson are all set to welcome Blam back into the world of living once more.

Oh yeah, it’s free to attend in case we didn’t sell you on it enough already.

The likes of Ali Siddiq, Tom Thakkar, Emma Willmann, Chad Daniels, Louis Katz, Chanel Ali, Lynne Koplitz, and Ronnie Jordan are all taking over the gorgeous Mint on Pico from 10/26-10/29. Taking the baton from the legendary Josh & Josh Show every Thursday at 8 at Bar Lubitsch will be the fantastic pairing of comedy power couple Jared Logan and Kara Klenk under the newly minted banner of Better Half.

Both are fantastic stand-ups in their own right and we have no doubt in our minds that they’ll keep the streak of great comedy that Josh & Josh started 10 years ago alive. Definitely, this first line-up is pretty damn great.
