Pick of the Day: Hampton Yount (in LA) 9/11

September 9, 2021
News
9/11, dynasty typewriter, hampton yount, la comedy, stand up comedy

Hampton Yount is in that class of comedians that you should catch any time that they’re going up as Yount’s blend of satire and silliness is a pure joy to watch. So, a special evening presented and curated by them at the wondrous Dynasty Typewriter this Saturday would be, of course, a do-not-miss sort of happening.

On top of that, this Saturday is 9/11 AKA Patriot Day AKA the 20th Anniversary of Sept. 11th, 2001 and, for our money, one of the better purveyors of 9/11 jokes, for several years now, has been Hampton Yount. If you’re already going to a comedy show on 9/11, you best make it this one then. Also, the wondrous comedy stylings of Joe Kwaczala, Robin Tran, Jonah Ray, Alana Johnston, and Norm Sousa will be featured as well.

Hampton’s night at Dynasty Typewriter on 9/11 is set for 10PM PT and tickets are $20 right now and $25 on the day of. Proof of vaccination will be required. Go get your tickets right now right here.

Pick of the Day: Jamel Johnson & Megan Gailey (in LA) 9/10

August 26, 2021
News
comedy show, dynasty typewriter, jamel johnson, la comedy, megan gailey, stand up comedy

Both Jamel Johnson and Megan Gailey have been, time and time again, an uncompromising delight to watch the numerous times that we’ve seen them go up, both in and around LA and on Conan. Essentially, you will be charmed by them and they will hysterically not let up until that happens (in the best way possible, of course).

So, it’ll be quite a night at Dynasty Typewriter next month when Jamel and Megan co-headline. Sure, we’ve seen them on plenty of line-ups together, but never just as the main attractions as they will be on Fri. Sept. 10th at 8PM PT.

Do not miss this special co-headlining night at Dynasty Typewriter. Tickets are $20 right now and $25 on the day of. Best go get them ASAP right here.

Pick of the Day: Conner O’Malley & Carmen Christopher (in LA) 8/14

August 9, 2021
News
carmen christopher, conner o'malley, dynasty typewriter, la comedy

This Saturday, any one in attendance will be treated to an hour of comedy by the boundary pushing comedic artists that are Conner O’Malley and Carmen Christopher. O’Malley has been so many characters that perfectly satirize some of the most ego-driven facets of the American psyche and Christopher dared to do a pandemic safe comedy special by carrying around an amp and a mic throughout the streets and perform for strangers from a distance.

Together, they combined their powers to offer up this visit to Atlantic City.

In short, it’s a night of comedy, even if only for an hour, that you shouldn’t miss.

Conner & Carmen will be taking over Dynasty Typewriter this Sat. Aug. 10th at 10PM PT. Tickets are $20 right now and $25 on the day of. Best get your tickets right now.

Pick of the Day: Eddie Pepitone & Friends (in LA) 7/12

July 2, 2021
News
dana gould, dynasty typewriter, eddie pepitone, james adomian, la comedy, stand up comedy

The NY Times named Eddie Pepitone’s For the Masses 2020’s Funniest Comedy Special. That special just happened to be shot at Dynasty Typewriter at The Hayworth Theater back in 2019. We just happened to bare witness to one of the tapings and it remains as one of the best nights of stand-up comedy we’ve ever seen.

2 years and a a good portion of a pandemic later, Pepitone is back at the very same hallowed venue to rumble its walls and seats with rolling laughter (along with some pals in James Adomian, Dana Gould, JT Habersaat, and Steve Lolli) on Thurs. Jul. 12th at 8PM PT.

Tickets are $20 now and $25 on the day of and you best go get your tickets before they sell out.

Pick of the Day: Maria Bamford @ Dynasty Typewriter (Residency)

June 4, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, maria bamford, residency

As we get back to more and more live shows, one of the best people to usher us all into the world of live comedy is the one and only, gracious and hilarious Maria Bamford. Maria had been doing so many virtual comedy shows and helped so many get through so much of quarantine with her life-affirming humor (and, of course, Maria was legitimately great on Zoom too).

Now, with the Dynasty Typewriter open once again (for fully vaccinated audiences), LA audiences can see Maria, live and in-person, once more. In fact, they’ll have several chances to do so with her residency that’ll be at 11:30AM PT (Dynasty Typewriter will have coffee on hand) every Sunday in June and July.

Also, she’ll has lined-up a wondrous showcase of openers for each Sunday that will include Virginia Jones, Laurie Kilmartin, Brandie Posey, Pallavi Gunalan, Laura Park, Pamela Walt, and Danielle Perez.

Tickets are only $10-$15 and you can (and should) go get them here before they sell out.

Pick of the Day: Rachel Bloom Is Rusty @ Dynasty Typewriter

June 1, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, in person shows, live comedy, musical comedy, rachel bloom

First off, we’re thankful that Dynasty Typewriter, one of our absolute favorite venues in LA (a place that we, if we were to add up all the time that we’ve spent there would equal several weeks) has survived all the way to now as we get towards the other end of the pandemic.

Indeed, they have begun doing indoor shows for fully vaccinated audiences only that are distanced from each other. Also, they have started to fill their calendar with same sort of stellar talent that used to grace their gorgeous walls and stage in years past.

For starters, the musical comedy brilliance of Rachel Bloom will be doing three shows entitled “Rachel Bloom Is Rusty” on July 16th & 23rd and Aug. 20th, live at Dynasty Typewriter. It promises “music + comedy” and even though the title utilizes the word “rusty”, we have no doubt the excitement of both Rachel and everyone in attendance ought to be electric.

Tickets for each show are $30 and you can (and should) get them at DynastyTypewriter.com.

Pick of the Day: Jon Daly’s I Venmo U Money 5/11

April 30, 2021
News
comedy livestream, dynasty typewriter, jon daly, venmo

OK, we’re not exactly sure what comedian and mischief extraordinaire Jon Daly has up his sleeve with a call-in live comedy show focused on giving money away via Venmo. Whatever he has planned is sure to be some high level hijinks that ought to be one damn good time.

Indeed, Jon Daly’s I Venmo U Money will be a call-in comedy livestream event where all the callers get paid and, apparently, “How much you make is up to you!” You can call (626) 869-9645 to either leave a voicemail or talk to Jon live during the show and really see if you can get free monies (especially since most COVID-19 relief has been far from enough and often too late to keep people afloat).

Tickets for access to the live-stream are not free, FYI. However, they’re only $10.

Jon Daly’s I Venmo U Money goes live on Tue. May 11th at 6PM PT/9PM ET, presented by Dynasty Typewriter. Get more info/tickets here.

Pick of the Day: We Called Your Mom with Beth Stelling and Diane Duval 5/8

April 21, 2021
News
beth stelling, dynasty typewriter, podcast, we called your mom, yassir lester

It shouldn’t come as surprise that Beth Stelling would do something as sincerely precious as start a podcast with her very own mother, Diane Duval, where they call the mother’s of comedians/artists and talk up their children. The podcast is perfectly titled, We Called Your Mom.

Beth and Diane will be doing a very, very, very, VERY special live-stream episode via Dynasty Typewriter wherein they’ll actually be reunited in person for the first time in a year (since you know what started) and “there will be hugs, announcements, stories, songs and more.” Also, they’ll be chatting with the hysterical Yassir Lester and his mom, Vicki!

Think of this as both a heads up on what will be a truly lovely show and a friendly reminder that Mother’s Day is on that weekend.

We Called Your Mom goes live on May 8th at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets are only $15 and you absolutely should go get them right this moment right here.

Pick of the Day: Naomi Ekperigin Works It Out 4/28

April 13, 2021
News
aparna nancherla, dynasty typewriter, jo firestone, naomi ekperigin, stand up comedy

Naomi Ekperigin, for our money, is still one of the most magnetic, dynamic, engaging, and thoroughly hilarious comedians to watch on stage and is someone we can’t wait to see live, regardless of the stage being virtual on in-person. Look her up on Comedy Central, on 2 Dope Queens, and on Mythic Quest.

She has stayed connected to us all comedically through her lovely live-stream and podcast, Couples Therapy, with her JewBoo, Andy Beckerman, but she has some time coming up to actually do some classic stand-up and work out some brand new material. Ekperigin’s presence and succinctly pinpointing the absurdities in minutia are, frankly, timeless.

She’ll be live-streaming this very special night of Naomi Ekperigin Works It Out via Dynasty Typewriter and will have a stellar pair of friends/contemporaries, Aparna Nancherla and Jo Firestone, joining her.

Don’t miss out on Ekperigin’s night on Wed. Apr. 28th at 6PM PT/9PM ET and get your tickets, starting at $10, here.

Pick of the Day: Super Horses, Wild Ego 4/19

April 9, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, erin whitehead, improv comedy, jeremy carter, lauren lapkus, livestream, mark mcconville, mary holland, matt gourley, paul f tompkins, stephanie allynne, superego, wild horses

Alright, OK, well, well, well… two of the best improv groups in comedy history are coming together for a very, very special, exclusive virtual performance presented by the wondrous Dynasty Typewriter.

The improvised comedy powers of Wild Horses (Lauren Lapkus, Stephanie Allynne, Mary Holland, and Erin Whitehead) and Superego (Jeremy Carter, Matt Gourley, Mark McConville, and Paul F. Tompkins) that truly do represent so much of the crème de la crème of improv comedy are becoming the portmanteau of Super Horses, Wild Ego for this special night on Mon. Apr. 19th at 5PM PT/8PM ET.

No matter what platform or wherever this would be happening, this is most certainly a comedy event not to be missed. Fortunately, you’ll be able to live-stream this from the comfort of wherever you’re comfortably (hopefully) not gathering. Best of all, tickets are only $5-$10. Best go get’em here.

Get Your First Look at SXSW Online 2021’s Cross Country Comedy Club Showcase

March 15, 2021
News
acme comedy co, dynasty typewriter, hollywood improv, sxsw, the stand, zanies chicago

We had previously told you that SXSW was going virtual for the entirety of their program this year as a result of the pandemic and that, for comedy, they had collected exclusive performances from some of the most well known and respected comedy clubs across the country. That includes The Stand, Acme Comedy Co., Dynasty Typewriter, Hollywood Improv, Zanies Chicago, and more.

Well, SXSW Online 2021 is happening this week, Mar. 16th-Mar. 20th, and you can take a gander at what that all looks like (including Joel Kim Booster performing in front of marionettes) as this sneak peek was just posted on Twitter. It’s nice to see that it’s not just a bunch of Zoom shows and a reminder of how much we can’t wait to get back to watching live comedy in person.

Get more info on the full line-ups of venues and performers participating in SXSW Comedy this year here.

For #SXSW Online 2021, we invited some of the most lauded comedy venues from around the country to present live shows from their home stages.

SXSW Online 2021 Announces a Comedy Line-Up Featuring the Some of America’s Most Renowned Comedy Clubs

News
acme comedy co, beth stelling, dynasty typewriter, erin jackson, gotham comedy club, hollywood improv, lara beitz, laughing skull lounge, Monroe Martin III, reggie watts, Shannan Paul, Shaunak Godkhindi, sxsw, the stand

It is not too far from this time last year that the devastating news that SXSW was going to be cancelled was going to be delivered. Along with its cancellation came the nixing of a wide-ranging program of live comedy that had become one of Texas’ biggest annual comedy events.

As we are still in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, SXSW is going entirely virtual for 2021. They did not want to be deterred from not only highlighting the best in comedy wherever the festival could find it, but note how truly special it is and help it survive through its various “homes” and “family members”.

Thusly, SXSW Comedy is opting to have exclusive performances (done with strict COVID-19 safety protocols) from the some of the most hallowed comedy clubs in the country including Acme Comedy Co in Minneapolis, Dynasty Typewriter and the Hollywood Improv in Los Angeles, Gotham Comedy Club in NYC, and Zanies Comedy Club in Chicago with the celebrated comedy stylings of Beth Stelling, Reggie Watts, Erin Jackson, Monroe Martin III, Clayton English, Chris Porter, Emma Willmann, Dan Soder, Joel Kim Booster, and Matty Ryan. Doug Loves Movies, Matt Besser’s improv4humans, selections from The Creek & The Cave’s Bring Back Laughs will also be part of this marvelous cross-country virtual SXSW comedy round-up.

This should be a momentous occasion coming on a year of lockdown in America and how we have all endured and comedy is still going (and will hopefully keep surviving) despite being challenged like it has never been challenged before.

This year’s online edition of SXSW is set for Mar. 16th-20th and you can get more info on their comedy offerings as well as buy/register for a pass here.

Pick of the Day: The Couples Therapy Quarantine Party 1-Year in Isolation 3/13

February 18, 2021
News
andy beckerman, couples therapy, dynasty typewriter, naomi ekperigin

For the good majority of us in the U.S., the one year mark of lockdown (don’t you dare give it the label of something nice like an anniversary) is coming up. Whether or however you want to mark the occasion (or not at all) should be, at the very least, accompanied by the knowledge that you made it this far, which we’re pretty sure almost every on planet earth didn’t believe that they couldn’t do.

If you do choose to take note of going 1 year in lockdown/quarantine/quar, may we suggest enjoying it with one of our favorite comedy power/quarantine couples, Naomi Ekperigin & Andy Beckerman under the banner of their podcast/live-stream show, Couples Therapy.

They’ll be doing a special Couples Therapy Quarantine Party 1-Year in Isolation live-stream via Dynasty Typewriter after keeping each other, their special guests, and their faithful audience sane while staying indoors for a year.

Couples Therapy Quarantine Party 1-Year in Isolation is set to stream on Sat. Mar. 13th at 6PM PT/9PM ET and tickets are only $5-$10. Go get them here right now.

Pick of the Day: Cammy <3's You! 2/13

February 3, 2021
News
cameron esposito, dynasty typewriter, valentine's day

The warmth and candor of Cameron Esposito, for our money, is pretty unmatched in all of comedy. Truly, an evening with Cameron Esposito that she shares stories/stand-up/etc. is one that you should most certainly take.

So, despite a card company popularizing Valentine’s Day, sanitizing it from its dark past, and forcing the world to go through perfunctory acts of affection, Valentine’s Day weekend could be just actually lovely with a special live-stream with Cameron Esposito via Dynasty Typewriter.

On Feb. 13th at 6PM PT/9PM ET, Valentine’s Day Eve, Cameron will be giving us just that with Cammy <3’s You! Tickets for live-stream access are $5-$10 and you can (and should) go get them here.

Pick of the Day: Dynasty Confidential for KTown For All 2/2

January 22, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, jes tom, joel kim booster, josh sharp, ktown for all, megan gailey, mitra jouhari, Sydnee Washington

Now that 2021 has REALLY begun, transparency is going to be crucial if we are to actually “form a more perfect union”. In other words, let’s not keep so many secrets.

That makes Dynasty Confidential with Joel Kim Booster a perfect show for this time as Joel will virtually assemble some of comedy’s best to divulge their secrets, and then do with them as he pleases. Also, you’ll get to bear witness to whole the thing for what is a hilarious evening of revelations.

This particular edition of Dynasty Confidential will go to benefit the amazing org Ktown For All that advocates for the unhoused population in and around LA.

So, plan for Tues. Feb. 2nd at 6PM PT/9PM ET to live-stream Dynasty Confidential after you go get your tickets here.

Pick of the Day: Wild Horses w/Naomi Ekperigin 1/16

January 15, 2021
News
dynasty typewriter, erin whitehead, improv comedy, lauren lapkus, mary holland, naomi ekperigin, stephanie allynne

Not only are Lauren Lapkus, Mary Holland, Erin Whitehead, and Stephanie Allynne are assembling virtually as one of the best improv groups that was ever formed in Wild Horses for their first live-stream of 2021, courtesy of Dynasty Typewriter, but they’re featuring one of our hands-down, all-time favorite comedians to watch, Naomi Ekperigin for this particular Jan. 2021 show.

For those unfamiliar (and we’re almost envious that you get to discover Wild Horses at this point), Lapkus, Holland, Whitehead, and Allynne check-in with each other in as good friends would at a bar or party along with their featured guest and then do their signature brilliant improv following that. Whether it be Largo, UCB, or wherever else they were playing, it was one of the improv shows we looked forward the most in the before times.

So, you best not miss your latest opportunity to catch them prance, gallop, etc. on Sat. Jan. 16th at 5PM PT/8PM ET for only $5. Get those tickets here.

#Pick of the Day: Mike Birbiglia: Working It Out LIVE 12/28 & 12/31

December 22, 2020
News
dynasty typewriter, jokes, mike birbiglia, nowhere comedy club, working it out

Mike Birbiglia has stood out during this trailblazing era of live-stream/virtual comedy. Not only has he come up with a very successful way to present his comedic stylings and develop new material at the same time, but he has raised so much money for comedy venues across the country via TipYourWaitstaff.

Thus, Birbiglia’s headlining virtual performances sell out pretty quick and has thusly had to up his bookings. A few nights of his latest run of Working It Out are already sold out, but there are tickets available for 12/28 (which will be a benefit for Dynasty Typewriter to boot) and the afternoon of NYE at 1:30PM PT/3:30PM ET & 3:30PM PT/6:30PM ET (it’ll be New Year’s in the UK for the late show, FYI).

Tickets are still going for $25 and you can and best go get them at NowhereComedyClub.com.

Pick of the Day: Cameron Esposito: Home for the All-The-Days Thanksgiving Special Edition 11/25

November 13, 2020
News
cameron esposito, dynasty typewriter, thanksgiving

Well, it looks as though Thanksgiving is going to be have to done, like almost everything else this year, remotely, if at all. Continuing to be in quarantine/lockdown, it’s very likely that you won’t be able to dig into turkey and fixings with your family or friends like you would in the before times.

Yet, there’s still hope for some Thanksgiving week as Cameron Esposito will be a Thanksgiving Dad to us all with a very special virtual stand-up show with some TBA special guests, presented by Dynasty Typewriter. Esposito’s candor and warmth are the perfect recipe to bring feelings of joy, mirth, and togetherness at a time when those are in short supply.

Cameron Esposito’s Home for the All-The-Days: Thanksgiving Edition is set to stream on Wed. Nov. 25th at 5:30PM PT/8:30PM ET. Tickets are only $10. Go make this Thanksgiving just a little better and get tickets here.

Well, October is here and it would only be appropriate if we hipped you to a spooky comedy event, especially since trick or treating and your traditional overcrowded Halloween party seems like a bad idea.

So, this coming Monday, Oct. 5th at 5PM PT/8PM ET, two of the most brilliant improvisers around, Lauren Lapkus and Paul F. Tompkins, will perform a set of long form improv as a duo that is taking on a bit of that said spooky theme for this evening is being coined as Lapkus and Tompkins of the Dead. The show will be a live-stream presented by the one and only Dynasty Typewriter and tickets for said show are only $5-$10.

You can and very much should snag them up here.

Pick of the Day: Steph Tolev’s I’ve Always Been F*cked 10/6

dynasty typewriter, solo show, steph tolev, storytelling

We had previously given you a heads up on the absolutely hysterical Steph Tolev putting on a live-stream performance of her solo show I’ve Always Been F*cked, but it had been moved to October just after we had posted about it.

So, we feel it our due diligence to highlight the show’s new date on Tues. Oct. 6th at 6PM PT/9PM ET via Dynasty Typewriter. Again, Tolev’s unflinching honesty and vulnerability and domineering presence on stage have made her into one of our favorite folks to watch on stage at any time and place and the prospect of her very own solo show is absolutely something we’re looking forward to,  even if it’s live-streamed.

Tickets are going for $1-$10 and can (and very much should) be snagged here.

Whether we like it or not, we are all in our feelings all the time in these days of COVID-19. Stuck at home, faced with the reality of the world literally and figuratively being on fire.

So, why not get in your feelings with some of the best musical improvisers out there in Every Place I Cry, a “fully improvised emo experience” that ought to satisfy your nostalgia as much as be cathartic for this truly absurd, but very real world we live in. Jess McKenna, Zach Reino, Nick Mandernach, and Ross Bryant are almost unrivaled in their improv and musical skills and form the fictional titular emo band, Every Place I Cry. Even as folks that don’t particularly care for emo, EPIC got to us.

They’ll be doing a live-stream via Dynasty Typewriter on Thurs. Sept. 24th at 6PM PT/9PM ET. Tickets start at $5 and you can (and should) get them here.

Pick of the Day: Cameron Esposito: Live From Home 7/30

Cameron Esposito is virtually headlining once more via Dynasty Typewriter. The sharp, clever, and caring comedy of Esposito is something to always be enjoyed, but should especially something to be comforting and inspiring in these unsure times. Also, all donations for this performance will go to Cameron and Dynasty Typewriter as, once again, the fate of live stages and live performers are just as unsure as they were at the start of lockdown and need all the support they can get as the pandemic persists.

Cameron Esposito: Live From Home is set for Thurs. Jul. 30th at 6PM PT/9PM ET.

No matter if it’s in a tiny black box or a theater like Dynasty Typewriter or virtually on Zoom, a live improv show featuring the uncanny talents of Paul F. Hosts Aisha, Wynter, and Sophia Zolan spend this uplifting hour shouting out their absolute favorites.

Since the departure of Harmontown, it has been quite a few minutes since Dynasty Typewriter had a big time weekly podcast recording within its wonderful walls.

However, that’s all about change with the one and only comedy/artist/producer/purveyor of wonderfully terrible things Rob Schrab (Channel 101, Monster House, Scud: The Disposable Assassin). A podcast called Schrab Home Video will take residence at Dynasty Typewriter at Hayworth Theater starting Mar. 15th and it’ll be “part clip-show, part talk show, and still more parts A/V installation and basement hang”. Of course, Schrab will talk to his vast, wide web of cool comedy, horror, animation folks that he is connected to and it should be a damn good time every Sunday early evening at 5PM.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 on the day of and you really ought to go get yours for the very first show here.
