Please Enjoy “I’m So Happy 4 U” from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 4 (That Will Also Likely Become an Anthem About Deflecting Your Anxiety)

One of the many great things Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was able to do over its four season run was to have a dialogue about mental health via musical numbers without seeming overwrought or preachy.

Even though “I’m So Happy 4 U” ultimately got cut from airing in season 4, it nails a very specific moment that so many of us have throughout our daily lives, but probably don’t talk about because we really wouldn’t want to bother anyone with how we feel, right?

Please enjoy Rachel Bloom, once more as Rebecca Bunch, “being completely fine” in I’m So Happy 4 U.

Oh yeah, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Season 4′s soundtrack is up for sale now too!

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Fourth and Final Season Premieres Tonight

In a not so distant past that seems oh so distant, Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna were set to do a dark rom com musical series over at Showtime.

A network change to CW and a handful of award wins later, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has redefined what a musical can be, what a romantic comedy can be, what a female led series can be, what the CW’s branding for comedy could be, and how to talk about a plethora of sensitive, timely topics in a nuanced and informed way AND still be funny and very clever while doing so.

For all what it has acheived, it might be worth your time to tune in tonight at 9PM for the fourth and final season premiere on the CW (or tomorrow on the CW app).

“Just turned on my wifi on our flight to Chicago and found out that #CrazyExGirlfriend has been renewed for a final season.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has always been a show that does everything, from top to bottom, on its terms, especially being a dark musical rom com done from a feminist perspective and getting acclaim from the get go and subsequently winning awards.

Something tells us that Bloom, Aline Brosh McKenna, and company are going to keep doing just that as they will bring Rebecca Bunch’s story to a close.

With revenge seeming to be the theme of this season of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (just look at the banner above), it seems like the series might take some of its darkest (but possibly most fun) twists and turns yet.

Remember, this was originally billed as as dark romantic comedy musical and what a perfect time to live up to that label.

By the way, you can get a taste of what’s to come as EW has an exclusive on the opening of season 3.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend Season 3 to Be a “Funny Fatal Attraction”

As has been the case since day 1 of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Rachel Bloom and Aline Brosh McKenna defy expectations at every turn and will do so yet again in the third season of their award winning CW series by focusing on Rebecca wanting to get revenge.

In fact, they’re going that direction to the point where they’re describing the season’s arc as the aforementioned “funny Fatal Attraction”. Maybe a Glenn Close cameo is on the horizon here?

We can’t wait to see what songs and dance numbers will compliment a darker edge to Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, especially if you know Bloom’s songs and music videos before she landed Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

When it comes to breaking down tenets of feminism and how different waves of feminism might clash with each other, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom is one of the few people on the planet that can package such a lesson into a very entertaining, uber clever song and accompanying music video.

We also have no doubt that Bloom just kicked up sales for Ruth Bader Ginsburg throw pillows.

The CW Renews Crazy-Ex Girlfriend for 3rd Season and Jane The Virgin for 4th

CW is staying the course with their two comedy series that have garnered them critical acclaim and kept them from just being a network of DC Comics adaptations. That makes sense to us.

These renewals have thankfully come early and have prompted this Rachel Bloom tweet that we love, “BEHOLD ME, FOR I AM IMMORTAL AND WILL NEVER DIE #CrazyExGirlfriend”.

This past week, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend kicked off its second season and hit the ground running with the form that has won them awards right out of the gate in season one.

They’ve got a music video for Love Kernels that takes some surrealist cues from Beyonce’s Lemonade and sends them up exquisitely. Along with that, Josh and Rebecca sing a song that goes to all those bouts of foreplay that seem to needlessly beat around the bush, pun intended.

If they keep this up, they can definitely count on being a perennial awards season nominee.

THR Interviews Kathryn Burns, The Emmy Nominated Choreographer of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

There are many special things about the musical numbers that they do on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. One of the biggest reasons is choreographer Kathryn Burns who has intersected the worlds of dance and comedy so wonderfully for so many years.

This weekend, the Television Critics’ Association handed out their annual round of awards for what they think the best and brightest in TV is. Below are the comedy winners for the 2016 TCA Awards:

-Individual Achievement in Comedy: Rachel Bloom (CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, The CW)
-Outstanding Achievement in News and Information: FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE (TBS)
-Outstanding Achievement in Comedy: BLACK-ISH (ABC)

Cable networks come up big versus networks yet again.

The Television Critics’ Association have just announced the nominees for the 2016 TCA Awards. For comedy, they are (*comedy nominees in italics):

“You’re The Worst” FXX

HERITAGE AWARD

“The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” CBS
“Seinfeld,” NBC

“Star Trek,” NBC
“Twin Peaks,” ABC

Outside of ABC scoring a nomination each for black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat and Seinfeld being up for a ‘Heritage Award’, cable networks dominated the TCA nominations for comedy with shows like You’re The Worst, Silicon Valley, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Veep. In fact, they even outperformed streaming services in comedy, which were lead solely by Master of None.

We’re glad to see Samantha Bee, who has hit the ground in a full-tilt sprint since her show Full Frontal premiered on TBS earlier this year, is getting a deserving nod here as well.

Given how expansive TV is, even from last year, we’re going to guess that this won’t be too much of barometer for what the rest of the awards season holds for TV comedies.

The rest of the nominees are listed here.

We guess a bunch of people might try signing up for Amazon Prime now?

Last night, The 2016 Golden Globes Awards were handed out and some of the winners in the comedy category definitely show how broad the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s definition of comedy is. It ranges from something that fits the ‘comedy or musical’ requirement perfectly like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to The Martian taking two Golden Globes as a comedy.

Here are the rest of the comedy Golden Globes winners:

Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy-“The Martian”
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy-Jennifer Lawrence, “Joy”
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy-Matt Damon, “The Martian”
Best Motion Picture-Animated-“Inside Out”

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy-Gael García Bernal, “Mozart in the Jungle”

Here’s the full list of winners.

Also, Rachel Bloom’s speech for her win for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is pretty swell.

Transparent, Veep, Anomalisa, and Master of None Get Golden Globe Comedy Nominations as Well as Joy and The Martian

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association continues to have a broader definition of comedy than anyone else during awards season.

There are your favorites as well as the favored upstarts in the field of this year’s Golden Globes nominees. The consistently praised Anomalisa and Master of None, heavy returning favorites Veep, Silicon Valley, and Transparent, comedy superstar Amy Schumer for Trainwreck, and brash newcomer Rachel Bloom for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend all got nominations from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. There were even some noms for work that should be getting more love from more awards, but, somehow, isn’t. This includes Lily Tomlin’s turn in Grandma, Melissa McCarthy for Spy, and Hulu’s Casual from Jason Reitman.

With all of that said, films and shows that are being considered in different lights, mainly dramatic rather than comedic, have found their way into the comedy nominees, like they usually do, at The Golden Globes such as Joy, The Martian, The Big Short, and Orange Is the New Black. Certainly, Joy, The Martian, and The Big Short weren’t touting themselves as comedies in trailers and promotion and Orange Is the New Black has shifted to dramatic consideration with other awards. We’re not exactly sure why the distinction for comedy is so noticeably different with HFPA, but it does possibly allow for some notoriety for work that wouldn’t really get recognized otherwise.

So, here are the comedy nominees for this year’s Golden Globes.

Best Motion Picture – Comedy Or Musical

Spy
