Full Frontal, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Black-ish Win at 2016 TCA Awards
This weekend, the Television Critics’ Association handed out their annual round of awards for what they think the best and brightest in TV is. We’re not sure how much influence this will have on the Emmys (the same goes for any other TV awards for that matter), but we do hope this bodes well for the trailblazing Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
Below are the comedy winners for the 2016 TCA Awards:
-Individual Achievement in Comedy: Rachel Bloom (CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, The CW)
-Outstanding Achievement in News and Information: FULL FRONTAL WITH SAMANTHA BEE (TBS)
-Outstanding Achievement in Comedy: BLACK-ISH (ABC)
-Career Achievement Award: Lily Tomlin
-Heritage Award: THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW (CBS)
“Grace and Frankie” Season 2 Gets a Trailer
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin are about to return as improbably friends Grace and Frankie for their second season.
From the looks of this trailer, they’ll be getting into even more trouble than they did season 1.
Look for episodes to start streaming on Friday, May 6th.
“Grace and Frankie” Renewed for Season 3 at Netflix
As the recent announcement of awards nominations show, streaming services like Netflix are faring quite well amongst traditional broadcast, cable, and even premium cable networks. Their formula for programming is working and thus Netflix and the like are going to stay the course (that includes expanding their programming) and a renewal for a third season of Grace and Frankie is a part of that plan.
Along with the accolades for her turn in Grandma, Lily Tomlin is having a really good year.
Watch Lily Tomlin as a No Nonsense Matriarch in Trailer For “Grandma”
Lily Tomlin continues this latest exciting leg in her career that includes Grace and Frankie and now indie comedy Grandma. Tomlin plays the titular grandmother that shepherds her granddaughter through the ordeal of unplanned pregnancy and will absolutely not put up with anyone’s BS whether it be from boys or her own daughter/the granddaughter’s mother.
Watch the trailer here and you’ll see exactly what we’re talking about.
Then mark your calendars for an Aug. 21st release.
Netflix Orders Season 2 of “Grace and Frankie”
While you’re probably still suspicious of Netflix’s reviving Full House, they are doing well to also focus on their own homegrown original comedy series.
If they continue the path they’re on now, Netflix will probably have a much bigger original comedy slate by the time this next season of Grace and Frankie comes out.
Here’s The First Trailer For Netflix’s “Grace and Frankie”
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin play “frenemies” that come together over their husbands, played by Sam Waterston and Martin Sheen, revealing that they are gay and in love with each other. You in?
Given the premise, Grace & Frankie very easily could have been a multi cam sitcom, but it’s not and we think it will be all the better for it.
All the episodes will be released on Netflix on May 8th.
Netflix Announces Premiere Dates For “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Grace and Frankie”
With 2015 just under way, Netflix already has their line-up for their latest series releases featuring two high profile comedies, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which they bought from NBC and ordered a second season on top of that, and Grace and Frankie with Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda as former rivals that bond over each of their husbands leaving them so they can marry each other.
The 13 episodes of the first season of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is set to release Mar. 6th and Grace and Frankie is set for release on May 8th.
So, that gives you some time to watch binge watch whatever other series you were watching before you get into these.
June Diane Raphael & Baron Vaughn Join Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin Netflix Comedy “Grace & Frankie”
Netflix’s latest comedy series slated for production is Grace & Frankie starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin featuring the two as arch rivals that become friends over the fact that their husbands want to marry each other. If that wasn’t intriguing enough, Sam Waterston is playing one of the husbands.
If that somehow not enough to draw your interest, perhaps the you’ll pay attention to June Diane Raphael and Baron Vaughn being cast as respective daughter and son on either side of this new family dynamic.
It’s announcements like these that make us glad Netflix releases all the episodes at once, so we can indeed binge watch.
