Funny or Die Launches “Funny or Die News Flash” App

Uncategorized

Are you the type of person that tends to just read news headlines rather than the whole story and likes one joke to go with it AND wants to be able to post it to your social media feeds with incredible ease?

Well, Funny or Die has got something for you as you’re probably a millennial.

Rather than following AP’s Twitter feed, you can get the Funny or Die News Flash app that gives you all of today’s news in an quick and easy format that also includes their award winning brand of sarcasm.

They show a headline as well as a late night monologue style joke, then link to the whole actual story. It’s a pretty great way to catch up today’s top stories without piecing together what random thing people are tweeting about while you’re waiting in line and avoiding making eye contact with strangers.

Find out more here and download the Funny or Die News Flash App from iTunes here.

John Hodgman Reveals His Deranged Billionaire Plan To Go To Mars on “The Daily Show”

Stewart’s leaving to see his family, but Hodgman’s apparently got something much more devilishly grandiose planned for when he leaves.

John Hodgman makes another fantastic Daily Show appearance as his deranged billionaire character and reveals that we non-deranged-billionaire folks are indeed going to be stranded on Earth a la that movie that a few people saw, Elysium.

James Corden Plays Matchmaker For Complete Strangers

Corden really played his genuine card as a late night host really well here.

The latest venture of James Corden the new Late Late Show is trying to make a love connection between two complete strangers. It’s a simple enough concept, but Corden’s curiosity, charm, and sincerity make this segment more than just an episode of Blind Date.

Watch how he pairs the two, then sets up the date, and ties a lovely bow on the whole remote.

MTV Trying a Late Night Talk Show Again with “Middle of the Night Show”

April 25, 2015
Uncategorized
big breakfast productions, brian murphy, college humor, late night talk show, mtv

College Humor’s Big Breakfast is developing MTV’s latest late night talk show that will trade a sound stage and audience for a bedroom.

The Middle of the Night Show makes its twist on the late night talk show format by getting rid of desk, couches, sound stage, audience, etc. and, instead, goes to the bedroom of guests while they are sleeping and waking them up to have them host a show from their home.

It seems like some sort of cross between this Rihanna prank on Jimmy Kimmel and The Late Late Show episode where Corden did an entire episode in someone’s house and Matt Oswalt’s Pre Dawn Show.

College Humor’s Brian Murphy will co-host as they’re trying to catch celebrities in the middle of their REM cycles and need someone to guide the show along.

Supposedly, the celebrity host that will be woken up to do the show will have no prior warning as to exactly when the crew will come in. If that’s true, we’d imagine that there would be a few episodes where the crew and Brian will set off an alarm.

Jerry Seinfeld and David Letterman Trade Places on “The Late Show”

April 25, 2015
Uncategorized
david letterman, jerry seinfeld, late show

Apparently, David Letterman has never been a guest on The Late Show with David Letterman.

Jerry Seinfeld makes the most of what will likely be his final appearance on The Late Show by turning the table, or rather, the desk, on David Letterman and interviewed him.

Of course, Letterman is still the same as he’s been for all these decades whether on the couch or behind a desk.

For curiosity’s sake, Jerry also gets a one-on-one lesson on how David impressively sprints out on to the show.

We have a feeling that if there’s some sort final episode tribute, Jerry will probably be there once more.

Campaigns For “Super Troopers 2″ and “Con Man” Crowdfund Impressive Millions

April 25, 2015

$3.156 million and $4.42. million to be more precise.

As of yesterday, the Indiegogo campaign for the Super Troopers sequel finished with $4.42 million raised. That’s more than double than what they were initially going for.

In fact, going by how fast they raised the initial amount, they had made stretch goals that went all the way up to if $10 million were raised. They just stopped short of the $4.5 million goal of having live bears in the movie.

Earlier in the month, Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man series raised an also very impressive $3.156 million after also racing to $2 million in record time.

Though it’s not the start of big projects raising millions via crowdfunding, this is certainly going to encourage way more of it.

Barack Obama Cemented His Legacy as Our Funniest President Ever with His Anger Translator Luther and Cecily Strong Spared No One at Last Night’s White House Correspondents Dinner

April 26, 2015

What was being called “Nerd Prom” turned out to be a pretty great roast.

Last night’s Annual White House Correspondents Dinner will be a night to remember whether you were in attendance, watching it on YouTube, or actually tuning into C-SPAN.

President Obama delivered another great performance and even brought along Keegan Michael-Key as his “Anger Translator” Luther. It’s pretty undeniable that he’s the funniest president in American history.

Host Cecily Strong really cut deep with a lot of her jokes when she took the stage and dished it out throughout the whole room including President Obama himself and even Hillary Clinton who she favors. In fact, some jokes probably hit too close to home for some in the room and play way better to those watching it on screen.

Even though HBO has picked a showrunner to fill in after Armando Iannucci leaves Veep, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see Barack involved in the show after his leaves the White House.

So Here Are Some Clips of That “Roast Battle” That Everyone Keeps Talking About

April 26, 2015
Uncategorized

If you haven’t been able to cram yourself into The Comedy Store’s Belly Room on late Tuesday nights, you have been missing out.

Brian Moses and Rell Battle have made one of LA’s truly hottest shows (just check LA Weekly and Vulture),  by pitting comics together a la a rap battle and have switched bars for roast jokes.

Roast Battle is probably one of the best things The Comedy Store has had in a long time and it’s only a matter of time before it gets even more notoriety. Roastmaster General Jeff Ross has become a regular fixture on the show as a judge.

So, as many folks can’t get out to the Sunset Strip by midnight on a Tues., here are choice clips of some memorable past Roast Battles including:

Candice Thompson vs. Virginia Collins

Jamar Neighbors vs. Jesus Trejo

Sarah Tiana vs. Pete C

So far, they keep making “to watch” lists and have been to SXSW, Riot LA, and will go to the NY Comedy Fest.

“Adventure Time” Will Also Be Getting a Peabody Award

All of TV would do well to take note who is taking home Peabody Awards this year.

In addition to Last Week Tonight, Inside Amy Schumer, and Jane The Virgin, Cartoon Network’s hit series that has been enjoyed by pretty much all ages, Adventure Time, will also be receiving a Peabody Award in the Children’s Programming category.

Those four programs represent a really great line-up of not only comedy, but entertainment that’s so damn refreshing. Hopefully, more TV network line-ups will look more like those shows in the not so distant future.

Ari Graynor and Jenny Slate are set to co-star in FX’s newest comedy pilot, co-created by Robespierre and Holm, that follows them on a road trip across the country. If you’ve seen Obvious Child, you know that there’s probably way more bubbling under the surface than just that broad premise and we’re excited to potentially see what that is.

SAG-AFTRA Puts “Comedians of L.A.” and “Living With Funny” on ‘Do Not Work’ List

Another couple of comedy reality series, like Last Comic Standing on NBC and Laughs on Fox,  are clashing with unions yet again.

SAG-AFTRA has found that upcoming series Esquire Network’s Comedians of L.A. and Oxygen’s Living With Funny are not up to meet SAG-AFTRA’s minimum basic agreement and thus have barred SAG-AFTRA members from working on either show.

Why this is a recurring problem with comedy reality series might have something to do with some production companies trying to pinch every penny possible when making these types of shows. While comedy can certainly be done on the cheap, in many situations, putting more into the budget could go a long way for series that’s already entering the crowded fields of comedy and reality.

Hopefully, a resolution can come soon and this won’t continue as a trend.

Nashville’s East Room Breaks World Record For Longest Continuous Comedy Show

They clocked in at 184 hours and 16 min.

Running longer than a calendar week without interruption, Nashville’s East Room hosted a stand up comedy show from Nashville StandUp that will now officially hold The Guinness World Record for “Longest Stand-Up Comedy Show-Multiple Comedians”.

Previously, the Hollywood Laugh Factory held that distinction for the last few years, but thanks to several local comedians as well as Rory Scovel, Hannibal Buress, and Nate Bargatze, Nashville StandUp accomplished what they deemed “The Greatest Dumbest Thing We’ve Ever Done: The Broken Record Show”.

Though usually only going for 12 hours, we’d like to see Jimmy Pardo’s Pardcast-a-Thon get in on this action.

This time, we’re going to get more than just great random weather reports and non-sequiturs.

IFC’s latest series will be Gigi’s Bucket List in which Krumholtz’s “Gigi”, whom he plays himself, will live out whatever the hell type of dreams she wants to live out as she inherits a huge fortune after her husband passes away.

If you’ve ever seen WeatherFrom.com, you know this could be really good.

Expect to see this at IFC later this year.

The era of parody police procedurals has seem to come to an end at Channel 101. However, there’s still plenty of absurdly great stuff like another episode of Kill The Baby.

Channel 101 was, until recently, dominated by such shows as Car Jumper, Fishbowls Are Definitely My Thing, and Skateboard Cop. Now, a new crop of shows which range from a new version of Toy Story to “self-ending” to making fun of all those millennials who do first person advice videos fill up the primetime line-up at Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab’s Channel 101.

Catch up/get acquainted/watch it all here.
