SNL’s 38 Seasons Archive Going Live at Yahoo in September

Coinciding with the launch of their wave of web series, Yahoo is putting an entire catalog of Saturday Night Live that will both cater to those waxing nostalgic about some crazy guys, Wayne’s World as a sketch, Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri as cheerleaders, and more as well as introducing a whole new generation of SNL/comedy fans to the SNL of yesteryear.

Starting Sept. 9th the 38 seasons of Saturday Night Live will be available to watch at Yahoo, so get ready for plenty of hunting for Jack Handey, Christopher Walken, etc. hosting, and Andy Kaufman.

Tig Notaro Curating Bentzen Ball Comedy Festival in Oct.

Though you might have not heard from Tig Notaro as of late, trust that she’s been busy at work behind the scenes. Not only has she been working on her stand up quietly as well as her Showtime series doing shows at people’s houses, but she’s also curating a comedy festival for BrightestYoungThings.com called the Bentzen Ball Festival to be held in our nation’s capital Washington D.C Oct. 10th-13th.

So far, there will be Jon Dore, Doug Benson, Wyatt Cenac, Everything Is Terrible, and Ira Glass slated to perform much much more to be announced and there are limited tickets on sale.

You might not want to miss this if you’re anywhere along the Eastern seaboard.

For Some Reason, The FCC Bans an Episode of High School USA

Sure, there was probably some objectionable material that the FCC thought shouldn’t be allowed (and that most of us probably wouldn’t get that riled up about) on network television as Fox ADHD’s High School USA is shown at a broadcast network.

But, what effect does that really have these days other than building an interest in watching that particular censored material and, with the help of the Internet and, in this case, Hulu, really easy to find and watch?

For Louis C.K.’s Live at the Beacon Theater, Patrice O’Neal’s Unreleased, Patrice O’Neal’s Mr. P, Maria Bamford’s The Special Special Special, Tig Notaro’s Live, Hannibal Buress’ My Name Is Hannibal, and more, you can pay what you want and decide how much of that goes to the artist, charity, and the organizers of this fantastic phenomenon, Humble Bundle.

That’s the name of their game at Humble Bundle and they have made millions for, as said above, charity, the artists, and themselves doing this for video games and are now stepping into comedy and with awesome curator Steve Feinartz (director of The Bitter Buddha), it’s one hell of a package that you could even snag for $10.

Check out their announcement video to get the whole picture and then make sure you get in on this because the offer will only be good for two weeks.

What We Were Witness to at Everything Is Terrible & Cinefamily’s “Everything Is Festival”

Powerviolence throwing toilet paper at crowd during Fox ADHD Pizza Party

Last week, we got to attend a bit of Everything Is Terrible and Cinefamily’s Everything Is Festival bringing you comedy from the YouTube generation, had a wonderful time, and noticed these things in particular below/after the break:

1) There is a whole new subculture/division/category of comedy that we saw at Everything Is Festival with the supercut, Vine videos (there was an entire panel on Vine that was really great and a lot of people showed up to), video mash-ups, skateboarding-comedy troupe Powerviolence (throwing TP at crowd and doing a boy hunks of Instagram competition), vintage video games, an entire musical from Comedy Bang! Bang! and a general sense of appreciating things that were, at one time, considered awful now in a brand new context as something hilarious.

2) Sitting around watching weird YouTube videos has kind of grown up as people were cheering for a lot of specific clips during video mash ups as if they were a band’s classic singles leading us to the conclusion that the 1990s were a long time ago.

3) While some of you might want to write off a lot of this is as niche comedy or some hipster BS, the fans of everyone in this festival showed up in droves, lining themselves around the block down Fairfax and were pretty thrilled the whole way through sans any irony (i.e. if glowsticks were thrown in the crowd and they were, people grabbed them and started dancing).

4) Everything Is Festival could be described as a comedy festival of tomorrow for the new territory they delve into comedy wise, but we’d say use the term tomorrow in a much more literal sense than a few years away.

Aziz Ansari’s Latest Special “Buried Alive” To Be Released on Netflix

Netflix has been on a role lately with comedy specials getting to the latest hours from Mike Birbiglia and Doug Stanhope first.

Now, Aziz Ansari is poised to be the next comedian in line to distribute his comedy special through the site, which leaves us wondering who Netflix is going to next in expanding their branding in comedy.

Make a Film on Your Smartphone and Submit It to The Disposable Film Festival

The Disposable Film Festival is a film festival in its 7th year aimed at films that can be and are made with the cameras on everyday devices such as smart phones, flip cams, etc. They’re taking submissions right now until Oct. 1st, it costs only $5 to enter, and sounds like a really fun, inexpensive venture all around.

We’re guessing that comedy is going to play a big part of it, that is, if enough found footage film buffs don’t overrun the festival.

Paul Giamatti Starring in FX Dramedy Pilot

Based on the hardboiled detective novels of Charles Willeford in addition to being described as a comedic drama, it’s hard to tell whether this pilot at FX will end up in FX’s drama half or over at FXx.

Still, the idea that Paul Giamatti can be another character that could potentially have another Sideways-esque meltdown makes us hope that they will happen soon and often wherever the series could land.

‘Futurama’ Series Finale Will Have Pre- and Post-Show Shows Hosted by Chris Hardwick

As Futurama reaches its series finale after an improbably rise from the dead along with the incredibly loyal cult following that it has fostered, what other way would be more appropriate to end the series than with a companion commentary shows, before and after the finale next Wed., hosted by Chris Hardwick?

Not much outside of having a Shelbyville hyper loop reference could do much better.

Kathleen Madigan Will Also Release Latest Comedy Special Through Netflix

Seriously, we weren’t kidding when we’re saying that Netflix is stacking their deck when it comes to exclusively released comedy specials. Kathleen Madigan releasing her latest hour of stand up next month means that Mike Birbiglia, Doug Stanhope, Aziz Ansari, and her (and we’re guessing more to come very soon) all have/will have specials that you can only watch Netflix for the time being.

So, we guess you won’t have to leave Netflix on your computer even after you’re done watching Orange Is The New Black.

Often is the case that certain comedians/actors can steal a movie through their oddball supporting character that is just more wonderfully bizarre than everyone else in the film or are the main source of levity in otherwise tense film.

That’s why you should watch out for Jim Gaffigan just being cast in Lorne Michaels’ Staten Island Summer and Mike Birbiglia in The Fault in Our Stars. We’re sure that they will be one of the most quotable parts of either of those films.

The Moth Publishing Stories in Print

The cult phenomenon of The Moth Storytelling series is now putting several of their best tales from the hundreds that have been told under their banner into print. For the point of The Moth being stories that are told in person, it seems a little odd, but as they’re also well told stories, it’s a very natural move.  To be included are stories from such great and funny storytellers as Brian Finkelstein and the late Mike DeStefano.

“The Moth” is now on pre-order to be released on Sept. 3rd.

Andy Daly’s “Review” Coming to Comedy Central in 2014

There were a lot of really intriguing projects that were on this year’s development slate over at Comedy Central such as Andy Daly’s Review show where he’ll review kind of anything.

Don’t worry if you were thinking it wasn’t going to air; just know that you’ll have to wait until next year for that to happen (OK, stop making that face–if you can wait until 2014 for a new season of Louie, you can wait a few more months for this).
