Trevor Noah to Host The Daily Show Through 2022

Many late night hosts have their future secured up until 2020 and Comedy Central is more than doubling down on their current Daily Show host, Trevor Noah, who did win a Creative Arts Emmy.

No one else in late night is currently renewed that far in the future (Fallon is re-upped to 2021), which will see Trevor far past the next presidential election. It’s hard to say how exactly it’ll look, but we have no doubt that late night will have gone through many more changes by the time 2022 rolls around. Suffice it to say that Comedy Central has a whole lot of faith in Noah.

Jim Carrey to Reunite with Michel Gondry on Showtime’s Newest Comedy “Kidding” from Dave Holstein

Jim Carrey to Reunite with Michel Gondry on Showtime’s Newest Comedy “Kidding” from Dave Holstein

A series that has a Mr. Rogers type character at the precipice of a mental breakdown sounds like something that Jim Carrey and Michel Gondry together would be perfect for. If you can imagine the alternate universe that Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind operates in, this premise from series creator Dave Holstein (writer for Weeds and Raising Hope) would most certainly be another tale from such a place.

10 episodes have been ordered by Showtime already and, curiously enough, Carrey’s TV persona in the show is named Mr. Pickles. Though that, at this point, doesn’t seem to have any relation to the Adult Swim show of the same name, the name Mr. Pickles might just stop having such an innocent ring to it.

Also, take note that Carrey had a significant role in the making of Showtime’s freshly renewed I’m Dying Up Here and, pending how well this series does, we thusly wouldn’t be surprised at Showtime signing Carrey to some kind of overall deal.

Futurama Has New, Special Episode via Nerdist Podcast That’s All About the “Apocalyptic” Future of Podcasts with Chris Hardwick Voicing the Villain

Before you even ask–yes, original cast members and writers were responsible for this latest incarnation of the never-really-dead Futurama on the latest episode of The Nerdist Podcast.

There’s plenty to enjoy here as Chris Hardwick is a “podcast super villain”, an additional storyline about a classic show trying to live on in a podcast, and, of course, plenty of fake future ads.

TBS Renews Wrecked, People Of Earth, and The Guest Book

Wrecked and People of Earth are getting a third season and The Guest Book is being re-upped for a second.

This would be an opportune moment to note that TBS programming line-up currently includes all of those shows as well as Angie Tribeca, Search Party, The Detour, Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, and Conan.

It’s pretty solid now and, we bet, beacuse of this, you’d have a hard time remembering what TBS used to be like and when exactly they were the channel had many more multi cam sitcoms.

Abortion Is Illegal and Some Babies Live Forever in “Infinity Baby” Trailer

Earlier this week, you got the first look at Alexander Payne’s trippy sci-fi comedy Downsizing.

It turns out that this week is the week for trippy sci-fi comedies as the trailer for Bob Byington and Onur Tukel’s Infinity Baby just got released yesterday. As we said above, the movie is set in a world where abortion is illegal and, for some reason, some experimental babies live forever. That’s a premise ripe for some wry, absurdity comedy, no?

As you’ll notice in the trailer, the cast includes Kieran Culkin, Megan Mullally, Nick Offerman, Martin Starr, Kevin Corrigan, Noel Wells, and Stephen Root.

Infinity Baby starts playing in theaters this Friday, September 15th.

Co-writer/director Tyler MacIntyre and Co-writer Chris Lee Hill’s Tragedy Girls just might be the dark comedy to catch theaters around Halloween time.

Seeming to be plenty gruesome as well as a bit of a send-up of these social media obsessed times, Tragedy Girls seems, from the trailer, to nicely land somewhere between Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad, American Psycho, and a recent favorite of ours, Ingrid Goes West.

See for yourself here.

Tragedy Girls starts playing in theaters on Friday, October 20th.

Conan Lets a Clown Protesting “It” Speak

The latest adaptation of Stephen King’s It is a box office hit, which has many clowns upset for allegedly promoting the idea that clowns are scary.

On last night’s Conan, O’Brien “let” one such clown (that’s some sort of unholy cross between Tim Curry’s Pennywise and John Wayne Gacy’s Pogo The Clown) “speak” to this injustice.

We’ve said it for awhile and we’ll keep saying it, Conan still has the best sketches in late night and this (written by Todd Levin) is just one more piece of proof.

For those wondering, that’s Andrés du Bouchet under all that objectively scary clown make-up.

Looks Like James Franco Really Brings Tommy Wiseau and the Story Behind “The Room” with “The Disaster Artist” to Life

Tommy Wiseau’s The Room holds a special place in cinematic history much in the same way Florence Foster Jenkins once did for opera.

Just like Florence Foster Jenkins got a pretty good biopic about how her awful singing was celebrated, the story behind The Room, from which the best selling book The Disaster Artist was written by Greg Sestero, is similarly getting a movie of the same name directed by and starring James Franco.

From the looks of the first full trailer, Franco really gets into the whole world of Wiseau, both emphatically and honestly. Also, James’ brother playing Wiseau’s friend adds another fun layer to this whole thing.

The Disaster Artist will play in theaters on December 1st.

As they’ve already hinted at, Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg’s animated comedy Big Mouth, Netflix’s latest animated series geared towards adults, will revel in the surprising highs and the gross lows of puberty. In fact, there’s a bit of magical realism woven through that might just set this series apart from other coming-of-age animated series.

See for yourself in the full trailer here.

Big Mouth starts streaming on Netflix on Friday, September 29th.

Comedy Central Developing ‘Weird Uncles’ Starring Brendon Walsh & Randy Liedtke

While the branding of ‘uncles’ hasn’t been great over the last several years, a sitcom starring professional goofballs Brendon Walsh and Randy Liedtke will, at the very least, do a lot for fun uncles around the world (if this goes to series).

Seriously, Brendon and Randy do some damn silly stuff on stage, on television, and elsewhere and we’re excited that they very well could get top billing on their own show playing uncles.

Watch Trailer for Alexander Payne’s Futuristic Comedy “Downsizing”

The last time that Alexander Payne’s name made the headlines, he was the mind behind a movie that was set in Nebraska, done completely in black and white, and was as grounded in reality as you could get.

Now, Payne is doing, arguably, the exact opposite in imagining a futuristic world where shrinking yourself is not only possible, but sold as a better way of living life with his latest work, Downsizing.

The result (and the subsequent questions that arise from it) appears to be undeniably fascinating and filled with plenty of funny set pieces (like an adult dramedy version of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids?).

See for yourself in the trailer here.

Downsizing hits theaters this holiday season.

“There’s too much news to continue without him: @LastWeekTonight with @iamJohnOliver will return through 2020. https://t.co/xAUgMJ5hAS”

HBO has officially picked up Last Week Tonight with John Oliver through 2020.

As the next presidential election cycle will be in full effect then, we have a hard time imagining that Oliver and company won’t be re-upped again just so they can be around for the whole new mess of whoever is running and ends up winning.

Also, getting three more years offers, hopefully, leaves the room for Last Week Tonight to get back to breaking down topics like infrastructure or multi level marketing instead of spending so much time on Trump.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how much crazier Trump gets.

Zach Broussard Is Trying to Make a ‘Sorta Marathon’ So Everyone Can “Run a Marathon”

Zach Broussard has spent a good deal of time and resources for large scale silly projects, which always peaks our interest.

His latest endeavor is taking marathons down a peg or, more accurately, making them way shorter so anyone really can say that they ran a marathon.

What he has dubbed the “New York Sorta Marathon” will be a race, if it raises $8K by next Friday, that’s so short that most people on Earth could finish it without any training or even breaking a sweat.

See how short it is in this Kickstarter video. Also, take note of the great stretch goal of being able to pay a professional marathoner to finish last.
