adult swim festival, comedy show, dtla, festival

Starting tomorrow and going through the whole weekend, the maiden voyage of the Adult Swim Festival will kick off just East of DTLA.

As you can see above, the line-up is pretty damn stacked. RTJ and the Rick and Morty Musical Ricksperience is great enough reason alone to go to this even though the rest of the line-up makes one hell of a festival. You can still get festival passes here.

Few comedy shows party quite as hard as Late Late Breakfast with hosts Danny Maupin and Tyler Jackson and that’s why it’s special the few times that they come around to LA every year.

This Saturday, October 6th is one of those special days where uber-silly challenges meet stand-up during “late late breakfast” (that would make it “late brunch” hours too, we guess?).

Debra DiGiovanni, Kara Klenk, Jordan Doll, Phoebe Bottoms, Simon Gibson, Amy Silverberg, Langston Kerman, Will Miles, Sasheer Zamata, and Jackie Kashian will all be joining in the controlled chaos at 5PM (doors open at 4PM if you want to get a good seat) at Silverlake Lounge (2906 W Sunset Blvd).

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Get more details here.

This Friday, new films from the very, very talented, boundary pushing group (from all different scenes and even parts of the country-Lorelei Ramirez in town from NYC) above will be presented at Junior High LA thanks to Bobby McCoy and Ember Knight.

Come enjoy a night of weird/wonderful films, especially for the fact that it’s cheaper than almost every matinee ticket in LA. Get more details here.

Well, of the places that you can and have watched a comedy show, we’re going to bet that a tennis court hasn’t made your list (it hasn’t been checked off of our list either).

That can change next week when Match Point! Comedy debuts and will present the likes of Aparna Nancherla, Nick Vatterott, and Ben Brandfon and their comedy on a Silverlake tennis court along with hosts Gil, Isaac, and Luke.

If you have a bird watching approach to comedy show venues, you might want to get in on this. Get more details here.

In our lifetimes, few loves put on public display seem quite as picturesque, passionate, and downright fun as the one between Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally. That’s part of why they wrote a book about it humbly called The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.

So, join in and catch them live in conversation about the book with Lena Dunham at the Aratani Theatre in Little Tokyo in DTLA on Wed., Oct. 3rd at 7:30PM. Individual tickets to include a copy of The Greatest Love Story Ever Told at $35 and you can (and should) get them here.

It’s not often that Chris Gethard swings by LA, so you really ought not to pass up a chance to see him.

Also, a live taping of his amazing podcast Beautiful Anonymous is another thing that you should make plans for whenever it happens.

On top of all of that, Chris is out promoting his upcoming life advice book, Lose Well, and, at this point, you’re probably going to want to check that out too. It comes out on Oct. 16th, but if you pre-order right now, “Chris will send you a video message, an audio file you can use as your outgoing voicemail message, or he’ll call you directly for a two-minute chat!”

Luckily, you can do all three on Wed., Oct. 24th at Dynasty Typewriter. Tickets are $40, which will include a copy of Lose Well. Get a ticket here ASAP (we have a feeling it might sell out.

Last year, Amy Dresner’s as-honest-you-can-get, but still very, darkly funny memoir, My Fair Junkie was released. Amy’s story and voice are enthralling and, consequently, we told you to go get the book.

It is even easier to get now as My Fair Junkie is out on paperback. To commemorate the occasion, Amy will be doing a live reading with another celebrated author on addiction, Jerry Stahl at Stories Books & Cafe in Echo Park on Fri, Sept. 28th at 8PM. As far as live readings go, this is one that you’re not going to want to miss.
