See Taika Waititi as an Imaginary Hitler in First Teaser for “JoJo Rabbit”

July 23, 2019
Uncategorized
jojo rabbit, taika waititi, teaser

Taika Waititi has built up such a lovely resume with everything from What We Do In the Shadows to Hunt for the Wilderpeople to Thor: Ragnarok that he can really swing big, which is what he seems to be doing with his latest, JoJo Rabbit.

JoJo Rabbit follows a timid young child in Nazi Germany that ends up having an imaginary friend in the visage of Adolf Hitler, albeit a goofy one played by Taika. The premise has the titular JoJo reckon with himself as he finds his mother is hiding a Jewish girl. Billed as an “anti-hate satire” (perhaps the first time that’s ever been a phrase?), Waititi continues to have our interest peaked here. The tone and satirical walking-the-line seems like anything else we’ve seen before just from this teaser (we can only imagine what lies ahead with a full trailer).

See for yourself here with the just released teaser, then look for JoJo Rabbit in theaters on Oct. 18th.

Tuca and Bertie Releases Its First Teaser (and Shouts Out Equal Pay Day)

equal pay day, netflix, teaser, tuca and bertie

For so long, we’ve been so curious as to how Tuca and Bertie, the anthropomorphic animal Odd-Couple-ish dramedy from Lisa Hanawalt starring two birds voiced by Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong, was going to be.

Well, wonder no more as the first teaser was just released today and cut specifically for Equal Pay Day (you know, the day pushing for gender equality in pay across the board).

There are definite BoJack Horseman elements to that can be seen here, but it seems as though Tuca and Bertie will be a little more hopeful (and a little stranger) than BoJack (where Hanawalt headed up Production Design and was an EP).

See for yourself here and mark down Friday, May 3rd for all episodes to stream on Netflix.

This Barry Season 2 Teaser Is Pretty Damn Enticing

Without spoiling anything, the critically acclaimed first season of Barry left on a pretty big cliffhanger. The teaser for season 2 manages you to leave you hooked with more questions than that cliffhanger (like a good teaser/trailer should).

So, without saying anything further, see for yourself in the teaser for what’s probably your current favorite hitman dramedy here. Look for season 2 to premiere sometime this Spring on HBO.

Sure, Halloween doesn’t traditionally come with gifts, but we’d like to thank FX, Taiki Waititi, Jemaine Clement, and co. for the fun Halloween present of the very first look of the TV series version of one of cinema’s best horror comedies What We Do In The Shadows.

Please enjoy them here and here and then look for the series to premiere in the Spring of 2019 on FX.

As a comedy horror series, Stan Against Evil is already at certain level of funhouse chaos, especially having had two seasons under its belt.

From the looks of this season 3 teaser unveiled at Comic-Con, they’re raising their own bar on how bonkers they want to get including sentient puppets and their own version of Mulder and Scully. We’re on board for all of that and more.

See for yourself here, then look for the season premiere on Halloween on IFC.

Sacha Baron Cohen Teases His New Undercover Interview Show “Who Is America?” Coming to Showtime

Uncategorized
sacha baron cohen, showtime, teaser, who is america

Well, it turns out that Sacha Baron Cohen had gone deep into character yet again over the last year to shoot his latest show, but done so in a way that is being touted as “undercover”.

We’re guessing that being undercover is the only way he’d get to talk to Dick Cheney as shown in this teaser and tweet (in which Cheney apparently signs a “waterboard kit”). You’ll notice that Cohen has donned yet another voice, though we’re not quite sure what ridiculous get up he’s in this time and what satirical angle he’s playing.

What we do know is that the show is called Who Is America? and is going for a rather short season and it will actually be premiering on Showtime this Sunday, July 15th at 10PM. We’re guessing there will be some satire of Trump, though we’re curious to see if Cohen will bring something else that we haven’t seen yet from the mountains of content that has been made parodying the Trump Administration.

We’ll all have to wait and see this weekend.

Animals’ Season 3 Teaser Promises Anthropomorphized Critters Running Even More Amok

HBO’s animated series Animals will be returning for its 3rd season and it sure looks like, according to this teaser, the animals are even less domesticated than you might have seen in previous seasons. Even though they’re rats, cats, horses, lizards, etc., it still seems pretty with the zeitgeist.

Also, you might enjoy knowing that the voices of Aisha Tyler, Cheri Oteri, Edie Falco, Demi Moore, Tracy Morgan, John Leguizamo will be taking part in this new season.

Season 3 of Animals premieres Friday, August 3 at 11:30PM on HBO.

This Sunday, May 27th, Michelle Wolf will kick off her weekly late night series The Break with Michelle Wolf on Netflix complete with monologue, remote segments, bits, and an ultra fancy desk (in fact, it’s nicer than most late night talk talk show desks).

Of course, this is the second phase of Michelle Wolf dominating 2018 as she is just coming off of her spot on roast at the White House Correspondents Dinner. Also, we have a feeling that is the start of Netflix figuring out late night as they also have a weekly Hasan Minhaj show on deck too. We will all have to wait and see how true that notion is.

In the meantime, you can watch a teaser trailer for The Break with Michelle Wolf here.

Coming to Showtime on Sunday, February 11th at 8PM to Showtime will be the series premiere of Our Cartoon President, an entire animated series born out of the recurring cartoon Trump segments from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

It should be noted that this will be the second televised comedy series entirely dedicated to satirizing Trump as President and, as it’s animated, it seems much less terrifying than the reality that it’s making fun of.

The original dark cult comedy Heathers hit theaters nearly 30 years ago in 1988.

TV Land has rebooted and adapted Heathers for the small screen and given it a very current day update to the look and feel (the original is very much a product of the 80s FYI). That being said, the tone of dark humor and salty language seems to be quite intact.

See for yourself in the teaser.

Heathers comes to TV Land next year.

This is a very small teaser that mostly uses very high praise of the cast (which includes Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, and Emma Thompson) of Noah Baumbach’s latest film, The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected).

Still, this is worth paying attention to as Baumbach is one of the handful of film auteurs left (and does so in his particular brand of dramedy) and this does like that shooting star of movie where Adam Sandler takes everyone by surprise (Punch Drunk Love, Reign Over Me, Men Women & Children).

Look for The Meyerowitz Stories to start streaming on Netflix on Friday, October 13th.
