Pick of the Day: Brent Weinbach: Popular Culture Taping (in LA) 6/29

June 17, 2024
News
brent weinbach, stand up comedy, taping, ucb

Brent Weinbach has proven time and time again that he’s at the forefront of the art of comedy and he’s about to do so again at the end of this month.

The comedian who conjured up comedic brilliance by impersonating an audience member crying or coming up with Gangster Party Line or perfecting what very much seems like conducting a comedy laboratory on stage, but it all go exactly according to plan is recording his very next special. Weinbach will be taping Popular Culture at UCB Franklin on Saturday, June 29th at 7PM and 9:30PM. Tickets for the early show are already sold out, but you can still snag some late show tickets if you act fast and have $15 on you (which, for this, you should).

Go get ’em here.

Pick of the Day: Hannah Einbinder: El Rey Taping (in LA) 4/20 (RESCHEDULED from 3/17)

February 6, 2024
News
hannah einbinder, live taping, los angeles comedy, stand up comedy, sunset strip, taping, the roxy

Ever since we peeped Hannah Einbinder start forming the shape of her grand, conceptual comedic ideas on stage, we had a quite the hunch that she was on a path to something pretty damn great.

Did we know she would be an award winning prestige comedy playing opposite the renowned Jean Smart? Well, not exactly, but we can’t say that we’re entirely surprised that Hannah is rising to the occasion. Einbinder’s ornately offbeat sense of humor on stage, with all of its carefully arranged bells and whistles, is something to really behold. So, Hannah being on the precipice of taping her very first hour special is absolutely a happening that we thoroughly think you shouldn’t miss if you’re in and around LA on Mar. 17th. right at the heart of the billboard river that is The Sunset Strip at The Roxy. on 4/20 (because those damn atmospheric rivers have to cause a bunch of property damage) on The Miracle Mile for LA’s lauded, gorgeous El Rey Theatre (has one of the dreamiest marquees in the Greater LA Area).

There will be an early and late show at 7PM and 10PM respectively with tickets being $35 a pop. We have no doubt that this will sell out probably in a jif. So get your tix here.

Pick of the Day: Comedy Central Stand Up Featuring Taping (in NYC) 10/5

September 21, 2023
News
comedy central, nyc comedy, stand up comedy, taping

Comedy Central is doing its latest round of exclusive tapings for their digital stand-up showcases, which is the most consistent stand-up comedy endeavor from the comedy channel these days. Also, it has been nice to see that these recent tapings have seen comics getting to play fast and loose rather than stick strictly to a set list.

The 2023 NYC Comedy Central Stand-up Featuring will have two tapings at NYC’s beloved Cutting Room on Thurs. Oct. 5th. Per usual, tapings are free to attend so long as you RSVP (do so here).

Slated to perform are choice picks out of the NYC comedy scene:

6:30PM: Ayanna Dookie, Sam Morrison, Chinedu Unaka, Homles, Randall Otis, Lucas Zelnick & Kate Sisk

9PM: Tommy Brennan, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Usama Siddiquee, Mark Smalls, Mav Viola, Asha Ward, Ethan Simmons-Patterson, & Eagle Witt

Again, RSVP here before it fills up! FYI, there is an open bar an hour prior to the show!

Pick of the Day: Tig Notaro: Hello Again [Taping] (in NYC) 6/10

May 3, 2023
News
comedy special, nyc comedy, stand up comedy, taping, tig notaro

Tig Notaro is taping a new special, which should be the only copy that you’d need to promote the two shows that she’s taping live at Brooklyn’s very own Kings Theatre.

In case you need a bit more:

Notaro has been an astounding singular voice in comedy as well as an inspiration and generation defining artist just from her impromptu album, Tig Notaro Live. Also, she’s taken on quite the on-camera career spanning Star Trek, fighting zombies in Vegas, and hosting her own talk show where she has no idea who her very famous guests are. That’s just a quick crash course in how marvelous Tig is as a comedian and performer.

Oh yeah, she also has the best bit using the stool in all of stand-up comedy.

So, do not miss the taping of her latest special, Hello Again, set for Sat. Jun. 10th at 7PM ET & 10PM ET at Kings Theatre. Tickets start at $60 and you can (and very much should) get them here.

Pick of the Day: Nick Naney: Nessun Dorma [Special Taping] (in NYC) 12/8

November 28, 2022
News
brooklyn, nick naney, nyc comedy, special taping, stand up comedy, taping, union hall

Throughout the NYC comedy scene days, there are few performers as mastered at tomfoolery quite like one Nick Naney. Through stand-up, characters, and a myriad of next level shenanigans, Nick has become quite the staple, especially if there are certain bits that require commitment in the face of sheer, unfiltered silliness.

With that in mind, next week should be very exciting for any and all in the five boroughs as Naney will be taping his very comedy special. We have a sneaking suspicion that he’ll have plenty of hijinks up his sleeve to really bring back the “special” in ‘comedy special’.

Called Nessun Dorma, Nick has set the date for Thurs. Dec. 8th at Union Hall with both an early show (7:30PM) & late show (10PM). Tickets are $11.55 and you really ought to go get ’em here.

Pick of the Day: Matt Rogers Special Taping (in NYC) 8/27

News
have you heard of christmas, joe's pub, matt rogers, nyc comedy, taping

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Matt Rogers‘ taping for his musical comedy special Have You Heard of Christmas?, accompanied by musical comedy wizard Henry Koperski, at Joe’s Pub is sold out (that includes the rehearsal from this past weekend). Rogers’ repertoire of holiday music might be the most fun holiday comedy numbers we’ve ever heard (and one of the only things we look forward to during the holidays for years now).

That said, life happens and, sometimes, tickets get released and you still get a chance to catch this Saturday’s tapings, 7PM and 9:30PM, at the legendary NYC venue, Joe’s Pub, in person. You’ll just have to obsessively check this page or @mattrogerstho on IG to see when they’re released because seeing this live will likely best any present you actually get in December.

As an endlessly curious mind, David Huntsberger and his comedy really dig into and questioning the human experience, especially when it comes to the science of it all and the limits of what we know about the universe. So, you can only imagine that he’s going to do something really trippy in taping a comedy special (FYI, he’s going to do “something” really cool with “VR”).

You really ought to see what Huntsberger got cooking for the taping of his comedy special at Dynasty Typewriter this Sunday. Tickets are $15 in adv. and $20 day of.

However, we can get you in for free so long as you e-mail us at thecomedybureau@gmail.com about wanting to go to David Huntsberger’s stand-up comedy special taping.

Billy Wayne Davis is one of our favorite comedians working today with his sly comic sensibilities masked by his welcoming voice (as well as being one of the rare comedians to record an album at Jack White’s Third Man Records).

He’ll be taping his brand new special this Wednesday at an old chapel at Mountain View Mortuary & Cemetery in Altadena, CA.

That’s right, you’ll get to see Billy tape his hour at a funeral home’s chapel.

There are two tapings, 7:30PM and 10:30PM, and they aiming to start on time. Admission is free so long as you RSVP at BookingBWD@gmail.com. We’re going to say that this will be worth the trek to Altadena if you’re not close.

It’s about time this happened.

One of the many new, exciting things that are happening at NBC’s comedy streaming service, Seeso, is a thing called The Comedy Show Show, which will feature plenty of different formats of comedy shows that have grown over the last few years.

Bryan Cook’s Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction is a prime example of such a format with comedians writing erotic fiction of a pop culture subject of their choice or by random. Having toured the country and becoming a hit podcast, it’s only logical that it would get to be featured in a series at some point.

So, a taping for Seeso’s Comedy Show Show will take place at the Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction’s current home, The Virgil, on Sunday, April 17th at 8PM (doors are at 7:30PM).

The stellar line-up features past winners including such notable comedians as:

Moshe Kasher (Netflix special “Live in Oakland”)
Eliza Skinner (@Midnight, writer ‘The Late Late Show’)
Ben Roy (Star/Co-creator ‘Those Who Can’t’ on TruTv)
Dave Hill (Author, ‘Tasteful Nudes,’ Host ‘The God Damn Dave Hill Show’ on WFMU)
Ian Karmel (Conan, writer ‘The Late Late Show’)
Guy Branum (writer, ‘Another Period,’ ‘The Mindy Project’)
Andrés du Bouchet (Writer/performer on Conan)
Jackie Kashian (Conan, album ‘This Will Make An Excellent Horcrux’)
Solomon Georgio (Conan, Viceland)

The taping is free to attend, which should give you more incentive than you already have to go to this.

This is one save the date that you should be unequivocally excited for.

Quite some time, almost three years in fact, has passed since Paul F. Tompkins’ last hour special “Laboring Under Delusions”. In that time, Paul has done so much other great projects going including No, You Shut Up!, Dead Authors, Speakeasy, and, most recently, Spontaneanation.

It’s amazing that Paul can pull all of that amazing stuff off and get a new hour together to tape a special on top of that.

That’s why you should block out Jun. 6th on your calendar and plan on heading to the gorgeous Palace Theatre in Downtown LA to see the taping of Paul F. Tompkins’ Crying and Driving. As soon as tickets are available, we will let you know.
