Tenacious D to Start Festival Supreme, A Comedy Rock Festival
Not very many details yet, but the fact they want to get the likes of Tim Minchin and more to play at a festival with them dedicated to comedy rock sounds pretty great.
Also, it may happen in LA, so keep your fingers crossed
On yet another wonderful edition of Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s Star Talk Radio on Nerdist’s YouTube Channel, Eugene Mirman, Sarah Silverman, and Jim Gaffigan really try to figure out what Tyson and astrobiologist David Grinspoon are talking about when discussing Mars.
Take out 30 min. or so of your Friday to enjoy this right now.
Whether you break the key prop to a sketch during a live show or not, the show, as they say, must go on. That’s exactly what UCB NYC house sketch team Beige did when they performed an entire sketch centered around a vase that broke while setting up.
Even if you think this is planned, this is pretty f’n great. Give it a watch now.
NBC Greenlights Pilots From Greg Daniels and Will Ferrell & Adam McKay
It will be interesting, and hopefully great, to see projects from Greg Daniels and Gary Sanchez Productions be the idea of “broad” that NBC is shooting for.
Along with the upcoming Nikki & Sara LIVE coming next week to MTV, the pop culture cable giant is seemingly bringing in a new vein of comedy with another series, Failosophy hosted by one of our favorite comedians out of LA, Hasan Minhaj.
It’s a clip show where they take a look at the phenomenon as the “epic fail” in whatever iterations they pop up (i.e. tweets, pics, FB posts, etc.) even doing reenactments directed by incredibly sharp Payman Benz (he directs a lot of great Midnight Show videos). It’s not reinventing the wheel of the clip show, but Minhaj along with the guest panel make this show really work (trust us, we were at a great taping) such as Gabe Liedman, Brooke Van Poppelen, Nikki Glaser, Sara Schaefer, and more.
Give the trailer a watch now and set a reminder for the premiere on Feb. 14th (Valentine’s Day) for 10:30PM.

VH1’s pop culture review show Best Week Ever is officially reborn tonight at 10PM. Catch the likes of Nick Turner, Michelle Buteau, Michael Che, Ali Wong, Jared Logan, and more bring the show all back to its former glory at 10PM.
Don’t believe us? Check out Nick Turner doing local weather in order to promote it.

YouTube’s Official Comedy Has Made a Stand Up Channel
Official Comedy has dedicated an entire URL branching from their channel to stand-up comedy. They’ll upload clips in the coming weeks of your favorite comedians from the past and present, perhaps, even the future.
Starting off they already have Andy Kindler and Joe DeRosa.
Yes, Jerry Seinfeld, as you can see in this video, is collaborating with hip hop artist Wale to make the #nothing album. Already, there’s a Mixtape About Nothing from Wale, so with a few mutual friends between the two including Seinfeld’s wife, we’ll all now be waiting for #nothing to drop.
Our best guess is that it’s going to be some really nice beats over Jerry doing bits, which is something we’d definitely be into.
Conan writer Brian Kiley does quite well for himself on this latest late night appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman.
Watch his set then appropriately give him a nice round of applause even if no one else is around.

There’s a whole series of “How To Bond With Your Co-Host” for the upcoming late night talk show, Nikki & Sara LIVE on MTV, that simultaneously tides us over until its premiere on Tues. Jan. 29th 11PM while also makes us desperate for more.

Jesse Ventura (James Adomian) Makes Guest Appearance on The Chris Gethard Show
We love James Adomian and Chris Gethard and that Adomian’s Jesse Ventura was on Gethard’s MNN show is really great.
What’s even greater is the fact that Jesse Ventura, former wrestling superstar and Minnesota governor, makes a guest appearance on the night where The Chris Gethard Show celebrates being a loser.
This is a sound clip of the very funny Matt Champagne expertly dealing with a heckler, but also, in a greater sense, giving us a sort of PSA on why you shouldn’t heckle.
This is a video clip of the also very funny Nick Turner trying to deal with what appears to be a drugged up heckler that nearly turns into a brawl.
In both situations, the audience becomes tense and the comedian becomes burdened with trying to ease the unforeseen tension in the room for the person who lives in whatever time period they thought talking during a live comedy show was OK. The fact that it happened and had to deal with it and got laughs really means they were derailed from doing something that was probably going to be much better and, more importantly, planned.
Heckling is not OK. It’s never OK in case you’ve been reading a certain article that’s floating around recently that says it might be OK if the comedian handles it expertly when “shit got real” that we won’t link to here.
The reason that live comedy is best enjoyed in a cramped darkened room with a small stage is that jokes require a level attention devoid of every single distraction. That’s why comedians complain about how the tables and seats are arranged, what color of bulb they’re using for the light to signal to get off stage, how high the ceilings are, the check-drop, where the bar is in relation to the stage, etc. etc. Comedy is so nuanced that every aspect of it has to be highlighted and attention to anything else has to be non-existent.
Unless there’s a show called the audience participation show or it’s boldly stated in the show’s description that you are encouraged to talk during the show, then don’t do it. FYI, we saw a show like that a few years ago where everyone in attendance was encouraged to talk and it was one of the worst fucking shit shows in the history of shit shows.
If you want to talk during someone’s set, yell at your computer at home when you’re watching YouTube clips of their stand-up. If that sounds ridiculous, that’s because it is, no matter where you are.

Adult Swim Set to Air Controversial Unaired Episode of Dexter’s Laboratory
Dexter’s Laboratory is one of the few cartoons that has held up as we’ve grown into adulthood and this elusive bigfoot of an episode (elusive only because of its supposed rampant cursing) might just finally make it to the light of day (i.e. outside live interviews/chats with creator Genndy Tartakovsky).
Yahoo’s got another great sketch as part of their weekly SketchY series from the hysterical Megan Amram pinpointing the big aspects of commercials targeting women on TV, including the extensive diversity. Also, notch another funny video for director Payman Benz.

Comedy Central To Start SiriusXM Radio Channel
If you’ve been wondering how to hear sets from Premium Blend again, wonder no more. Comedy Central is expanding its brand once more to include a radio channel featuring stand-up clips from gigantic archive over the last 20 years and comedian guest hosts.
If you have Sirius XM, you might want to make room for a preset.
This is exactly what we’re suggesting it is. Dratch goes through a Nickelodeon Guts style obstacle course that is a bunch of metaphors for the film career of actress Julia Roberts. Basically, Billy on the Street just keeps getting more amazing.
Watch the hilarious madness here.

Tom Shillue is marching on forward with his astounding album-a-month pace with his latest storytelling offering, Lateral Thinking Puzzlers, and the 1-hr special Mandroid (available on CD and DVD) from the Nerdist himself, Chris Hardwick, just got released today.
