Behind the sweet face of Jaboukie Young-White is a clever, mischievous (yet, also still sweet) sense of humor. It’s the thing that has carried him to a big following online, TV writing gigs,  and this second set on the Tonight Show from last week.

For us, the closer on this set is stellar.

Watch and enjoy it here.

A24 Is Screening Eighth Grade at 100 Schools for Free This Month

Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade may be not only one of the best movies this year, but also a pointedly important one giving a glimpse into what it’s like to be a teenager in 2018 as well as growing up in general.

Sure it’s a commercial success for A24 and Burnham, but following the promotional tagline of “If you’ve been through eighth grade, then Eighth Grade is for you,” 100 schools (picked from submissions that are open right now) will get the chance for a free screening of the movie on the week of 10/22.

It’s a great chance for kids whom the movie is about to see it without worrying about the rating (or to see it again).

The deadline is 10/14. Get more details and submit here.

Adam Conover, probably best known as the host that “ruins” it all (i.e. enlightens with information where most of us just took things for granted) is going on tour throughout this Winter.

Called Mind Parasites Live!, we’re sure (well, pretty sure) there won’t be any actual brain-eating insects (though the inside of Adam’s brain in the poster looks pretty damn metal) and rather, a bevy of edutainment offered by one of the best in the game.

So far there are 24 cities and you can get your tickets right now. Do so here.

Tig Notaro Might Have Another Show Over at ABC with Pilot Production Commitment Set for “Thicker Than Water”

Tig Notaro along with her co-EP on this project Cara DiPaolo are aiming for a dramedy exploring the American experience centered on the center of the U.S.

From the premise of meeting half-siblings for the first time at a funeral, Thicker Than Water almost seems like a natural progression from Tig’s last show One Mississippi.

Right now, it has a commitment for a pilot at ABC, but if it goes to series, maybe it could end up being ABC’s answer to This Is Us (in dramedy form).

Please Get and Enjoy Nicolette Daskalakis’ Satirical Love Poems in “Portrait of Your Ex Assembling Furniture”

The idea of poetry about love usually conjures up some sort of Shakespearean declaration diced up in iambic pentameter.

Nicolette Daskalakis’ latest collection of poems in Portrait of Your Ex Assembling Furniture takes a much, much more modern and nuanced approach that captures the anxiety, frustration, ennui, etc. that make up love’s potential side effects (and, consequently, make it the more great when you end up actually finding love, or so we hope).

Her poems break far from traditional form and have a refreshing bit of sass and verve that are akin to the age of the Internet, but not in any sort of way that’s exhausting or alienating (you know, like the Internet mostly is). You can take a gander at a few of them over at Amazon.

So, please go and get some poetry for once with Portrait of Your Ex Assembling Furniture by Nicolette Daskalakis here.

Looks Like That Heathers TV Series Will Go on Air After All

Though it’ll be airing as a “5 night binge event” and is being touted as highly “controversial” (apparently, it will also have major edits and combined the penultimate episode and season finale into one ep.), the Heathers reboot/TV adaptation is going on TV after all on The Paramount Network.

It’ll start airing on October 25th. If there is another major school shooting between now and the end of their “binge event” (which, very sadly, could happen), we’ll be curious to see what Paramount does this time around.

Here’s an announcement from an OG Heather and a new trailer.

Or, you could call this your first look at government surveillance watching Hasan do his upcoming weekly Netflix show.

In any case, if the (slightly?) fictionalized watching of Hasan Minhaj doing his topical comedy series is a new angle, which might play well in the arena occupied by Trevor Noah, John Oliver, and Samantha Bee.

We’ll be excited to see what Hasan has cooked up and if Netflix will have finally figured out how they want to do a weekly comedy show where they can’t release all the episodes at once.

Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj starts streaming Oct. 28, then releases new episodes every Sunday after that.

Few comedy shows party quite as hard as Late Late Breakfast with hosts Danny Maupin and Tyler Jackson and that’s why it’s special the few times that they come around to LA every year.

This Saturday, October 6th is one of those special days where uber-silly challenges meet stand-up during “late late breakfast” (that would make it “late brunch” hours too, we guess?).

Debra DiGiovanni, Kara Klenk, Jordan Doll, Phoebe Bottoms, Simon Gibson, Amy Silverberg, Langston Kerman, Will Miles, Sasheer Zamata, and Jackie Kashian will all be joining in the controlled chaos at 5PM (doors open at 4PM if you want to get a good seat) at Silverlake Lounge (2906 W Sunset Blvd).

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Get more details here.

The President Show Is Coming Back with a Mockumentary with the Very Hopeful Title “The Fall of Donald Trump”

Sure, Trump humor can be well beyond exhausted in 2018. That being said, Anthony Atamanuik’s Trump is so good that it supersedes any sort of fatigue we may have gotten from political humor over the last three years.

So, naturally, we’re excited for the folks at The President Show at Comedy Central to make a mockumentary that goes behind an imagined (or maybe what will end up being a not so imagined) dismantling of the Trump Administration (often self-inflicted by Trump and his cronies).

Here’s a taste of it with a “leaked tape”.

Look forward to A President Show Documentary: The Fall of Donald Trump premieres on Monday, October 22nd at 11PM and hopefully a turning of the tides in the midterm elections a couple of weeks later.

HBO Orders Televangelist Comedy ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ From Danny McBride to Series

Amateur baseball. High school administration. And now, televised ministry.

If you can imagine it, it’s three points in an ever expanding Danny McBride-HBO universe (including Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals) that paints an always entertaining, but razor sharp satirical portrait of America.

Danny McBride’s latest project The Righteous Gemstones just got a series order at the premium cable network and will feature him squaring off against John Goodman within a family of a televangelists. Of course, they wheel and deal in greed as much as they do with “the good book”.

We’ll be looking forward to when this premieres, we’re guessing sometime later next year.

Now, we can’t help but wonder if there ever will be any crossing over between McBride’s shows (even if it’s only some one-off sketch released online).
