Pick of the Day: You Had Me at New York 5/31

It’s more than obvious right now that we need a big change in many of our leaders, especially elected officials. The NYC chapter of the DSA is working hard to make that happen. They’re aiming to have four specific candidates to fill state level offices namely, Jabari Brisport, Phara Forrest, Marcela Mitayanes, and Zohran Mamdani.

To accomplish this, there will be a big telethon-ish variety benefit show called You Had Me at New York featuring a line-up that’s stacked on top of being stacked. Slated for this extravaganza are:

Jaboukie Young-White, Bowen Yang, Sarah Silverman, Julio Torres, Cynthia Nixon, Nina Turner, Philip Agnew, Patti Harrison, Jerry Paper, Larry Owens, Kate Berlant, John Early, Madison McFerrin, Aparna Nancherla, Nina Turner, Balún, Dynasty Handbag, Ruby McCollister, Cole Escola, Micheal Cavadias, Sarah Sherman, Chani Nicholas, Una Osato aka ExHOTic, Other, Jennifer Vanilla, Jeremy & Rajat, Tommy Pico, Joey De Jesus, Kiko Soiree, Simone Norman.

Subversive delights Lorelei Ramirez and Morgan Bassichis are presiding as hosts for the whole event and we can’t imagine that this night will be anything but unforgettable, mesmerizing, and, dare we say, transformative.

You Had Me at New York is set for Sun. May 31st at 3PM PT/6PM ET. Tickets start at $15 and you absolutely should go get tickets right here right now.

Jaboukie Young-White Will be The Daily Show’s Newest Correspondent

Jaboukie Young-White is having quite the October.

Last week, he killed it on The Tonight Show and now, he’ll be the (perhaps) Senior Millennial Correspondent(?) on The Daily Show.

Can’t wait to see what Jaboukie has up his sleeve for Trevor and co.

Behind the sweet face of Jaboukie Young-White is a clever, mischievous (yet, also still sweet) sense of humor. It’s the thing that has carried him to a big following online, TV writing gigs,  and this second set on the Tonight Show from last week.

For us, the closer on this set is stellar.

Watch and enjoy it here.

Well, NYC’s renowned Las Culturistas podcast, hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang,  is finally coming to LA to do a round of their beloved I Don’t Think So, Honey! next month.

For the uninitiated, 50 comedians (you can see above that they’ve assembled many of LA’s best) will get to fiercely rant for one minute on anything in culture kicked off by the eponymous phrase “I don’t think so honey”. Arguably, it raises sh*t-talking to an art form. Do yourself a favor and listen to the live episodes that they’ve done in the NYC in the Las Culturistas archives.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. We highly recommend to go get them here ASAP.

Hailing from NYC, the wondrous Patti Harrison and Catherine Cohen are bringing up a very stacked line-up to “give them lectures on guy stuff so that they can finally fit in.”

Sounds like the “perfect time” for such a thing (not to mention that the line-up is again, so damn stacked)

Tickets are $7 and you can and really should get them here.

It’s been more than awhile (and much longer than we prefer) since this show has been around, but, thankfully, We Still Like You is coming back.

All the comedians booked tell a story in which they are definitely not the hero. At the end of each story, the audience cheers “"We still like you!“ in act of forgiveness. Per usual, the line-up is great.

Tickets are $5 and you can get more info here.

If you’re in the NYC, LA, or Chicago comedy scene, you’ve might have caught wind of the name Jaboukie Young-White (especially after this Vulture list).

Well, here’s to more than just hearing his name at various comedy showcases as Jaboukie just landed his first televised stand-up set on The Tonight Show, which aired last night. Seeing him for ourselves, we won’t be surprised to see him making the rounds more regularly on TV next year.

A special edition of Drunk Ed. is going to talk about one of most pressing issues right now, toxic masculinity and its systemic abuse, with a great line-up of folks involved in and throughout comedy, entertainment, etc. (i.e. industries where sexual harassment is being purged most harshly right now).

Not only will be an important and cathartic evening, but proceeds will go towards RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network), the largest anti-sexual violence organization in the U.S.

Tickets are $5. Get them here.
