TBS Wants in on Aubrey Plaza’s Nightmarish Visions and Orders Pilot of Her “Nightmare Time”

Someone who goes by @evilhag on Twitter is bound to have some really fun nightmares.

Horror comedy/horror comedy is on the rise as a genre hybrid with anything from Scream Queens to Ash vs. Evil Dead to the upcoming Stan Against Evil carving out their own niche in TV.

Since TBS went through their rebranding earlier this year, they are all in on the high concept for their scripted series. So, a horror comedy anthology series from Aubrey Plaza along with the help of writers Darcy Fowler, Kieran Valla, and Seth Kirschner sounds like a really good get for them.

Anyone else imagining Plaza narrating a scary, but absurd camp fire story?

We Still Like You is a special kind of storytelling show that has all their guests share tales that don’t paint them in the best light. That’s followed along with live illustration and makes for a wondrous, cathartic night capped off with the whole room shouting “We still like you!” after each story.

The Puterbaugh Sisters, Emily Maya Mills, Dan Sheehan, Keith Carey, Goodrich Gevaart, Alice Walton, and hosts Evan Wood and Andy Sell will all bare their souls, warts and all on Saturday October 15th at 9:30PM.

Oh, also, this is one of those cool house shows you might have heard about and this is definitely one of the ones you need to check out.

Fox Orders Two Specials of ‘Showtime At The Apollo’  with Steve Harvey as Host

Fox Orders Two Specials of ‘Showtime At The Apollo’  with Steve Harvey as Host

Get ready for a whole new subset memes of Steve Harvey’s facial expressions.

Showtime at The Apollo is just 18 years short of a centennial. As such, it has seen so many stars hit its stage at the beginning of their career only to go on to fame and fortune. Steve Harvey was actually one of those stars.

Given the popularity of talent variety competitions on television, it only makes common sense that Showtime At The Apollo would get televised nationally by some network, especially given its reputation for booing performers that don’t get the crowd on their side.

We’ll see how much of that Fox lets on the two special they’ve ordered, but whatever Steve Harvey’s face, a thing that people have become obsessed with his hosting of Family Feud, after someone gets booed off stage should be pretty priceless.

Look for the specials to premiere on December 5th and early next year.

Atlanta Had Some Fake Commercials That Really Blurred the Lines Between the Surreal and Real

Donald Glover said that he thought of his series Atlanta on FX as a sort of Twin Peaks with rappers.

Glover made good on the Twin Peaks part of that equation with these surreal, satirical, poignant fake ads that echo old Miss Cleo commercials and will haunt the rest of breakfast cereal commercials you watch from now on.

Chris Cubas Tries to See What the 1% Is Up to in “Chris Gets Money” Fusion Docu-Special

Fusion wants to explore the notion of how unbalanced income inequality in the U.S. is. Of course, they, like so many other investigatory and eductional docu-specials and docu-series these days, have gotten a funny person to frame the special around.

For exploring the lives of the 1%, Fusion got Austin’s Chris Cubas and gave him $30,000 to spend over 30 days (i.e. live like and “infiltrate” that 1%).

His findings were all shot and edited into a special that’s called Chris Gets Money that will premiere on Fusion on Friday, October 21st at 8PM.

The likelihood that this will instantly solve income inequality in this country is unlikely, but watching Cubas ball out of control will probably be pretty fun.

8 episodes are set to air in 2017.

From a monthly show at a black box theater to a TV special Josh Adam Meyers and The Comedy Jam Band have reached new heights by getting a series order from Comedy Central.

They had to drop the “Goddamn” from the name, but that shouldn’t hold back from how much of a raucous party that Meyers and company will throw. If getting Coolio to join Pete Davidson on stage for Gangsta’s Paradise was just the start, imagine what they’ll do next.

The Cooties are already great. Reggie Watts is also already great. They all definitely do not need to be made great again.

So, as a group of greats, they made a perfect, satirical Trump supporter song and accompanying music video, Trumpy Trump, that shows why one Donald Trump isn’t actually fit to make anything great at any time.

Nick Kroll and John Mulaney Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland got their latest late night appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. With not only a late night talk show at their disposal, but a theatre in our nation’s capitol as well, Gil and George opted to do one more round of their beloved prank/chat show Too Much Tuna.

Basically, they hijacked Meyers show and had Meyers as a guest and had the sort of fun that they do at their Oh, Hello show.

Also, they explained, in the actual televised interview where they were the guests, how their show pays “hompage” to Broadway.

We’re guessing that Mulaney and Kroll could do these characters on Broadway for as long as they desire.

Just a few weeks after new year, when hopefully the world is back on its way to some sort of normalcy, the 5th Annual Riot LA Comedy Festival will have its run and bring some much needed comedic relief to any and all in DTLA from Jan. 20th-22nd.

So far, the festival is looking to go bigger for 2017 as the venues will be bigger and they’re going to have a ferris wheel. That’s in addition to a screening of Blazing Saddles complete with Q&A with Mel Brooks, Ali Wong headlining, a brand new round of Dr. Katz Live!, and much more TBA soon.

Passes and tickets will go on sale at riotla.com this Friday, October 14th at 10AM PDT, but there’s a AMEX and Goldenvoice pre-sale on Thursday at 10AM PDT as well.

It’s a wonderful time of a year anytime that a new hour of stand-up comedy from Kyle Kinane is set to come out. Fortunately, his latest special, Loose in Chicago, is set for its premiere this Saturday at midnight on Comedy Central.

There is still the majority of the week to get through before then, so here are three whole preview clips, one video and two audio (via The Laugh Button) that will see you through until Saturday night. Bits on the whitest thing he’s ever said, gun control, and testing people’s morality are, as you might suspect, pretty damn great.

Seeso Orders a ‘Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson’ Behind The Scenes Series from Paul Reiser and David Steven Simon

Called “There’s Johnny!”, one will probably wonder how it stacks up next to The Larry Sanders Show.

Paul Reiser and David Steven Simon who worked together on Mad About You are teaming up again to write a show that focuses on what happened with the legendary Johnny Carson behind the scenes of his run at The Tonight Show.

David Gordon Green, who Reiser works with on Red Oaks, is set to produce with both Paul and Simon and might bring some very intriguing comedic flavor to this show.

We’ll find out what this ends up being on 2017 when it starts streaming on Seeso.

Jon Hamm and John Slattery Listed as Understudies for Nick Kroll and John Mulaney’s “Oh, Hello”

It looks like Kroll and Mulaney made sure to make every single square inch of their Broadway run funny.

In the programs for Oh, Hello on Broadway, both John Slattery and Jon Hamm are actually listed in the programs as the understudies for Gil Faizon and George St. Geegland played by Nick Kroll and John Mulaney respectively. Leave it to Kroll and Mulaney to find some “suitable” understudies.

Slattery and Hamm have yet to really step in for a night of Oh, Hello. Also, it’s hard to imagine anyone inhabiting the roles of Gil and George, but imagining Slattery and Hamm doing Too Much Tuna is pretty adorable.

Starz Renews Ash Vs. Evil Dead for a Third Season

If you were just looking for a sequel to Army of Darkness/Evil Dead, looks you got something way better.

Not that we’re surprised, but Starz seems to like having the horror-action-comedy Ash vs. Evil Dead around. Announced at NY Comic-Con this past weekend, a third season of the series has just been ordered up, which means that several hours of blood, guts, and Ash one-liners have been made and more are coming. A single sequel would only be two hours and change at best and who’s to say that a movie wouldn’t sprout of the newly revived franchise.
