Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part 2 Gets Trailer Part 2

February 6, 2023
News
history of the world part 2, hulu, mel brooks

Decades of percolating ideas in comedy legend’s Mel Brooks‘ head are about to hit Hulu in the follow-up to Brooks’ History of the World Part 1, the aptly named History of the World Part 2. It’s going to be as chock full of as many cameos from the funniest and most famous folks as the show can possibly fit in as you saw in the recently released “teaser”.

In fact, the teaser clocks in at almost 2 minutes, which, in most cases, counts as a full trailer making the so-called “History of the World Part 2 Trailer” more akin to a sequel, especially since it gives an even greater scope of the high flying, somewhat historically accurate (maybe?) antics that Brooks along with Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz dive into with utter abandon including Shakespeare’s Writers’ Room to Sigmund Freud’s Masterclass.

Take a gander for yourself here, then look for the premiere of History of the World Part 2 on Hulu on Mon. Mar. 6th.

Get Your Very First Look at Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part 2

Over two scores ago, Mel Brooks unveiled History of the World Part 1 on the silver screen and broke new ground on how silly and absurd you could get when satirizing historical events. So much more history has happened since the film’s release in 1981 (including how Tinseltown works) and, perhaps, it’ll be worth the wait to see Brooks, still sharp at his advanced age, and his take on things these days.

Also, Part 2 is kind of a sequel as it’s an 8 part series to be released on Hulu, though it seems like it’s a much bigger production with a main cast of Mel Brooks, Wanda Sykes, Nick Kroll, and Ike Barinholtz and several cornucopias of cameos including:

Pamela Adlon, Tim Baltz, Zazie Beetz, Jillian Bell, Quinta Brunson, Dove Cameron, D’Arcy Carden , Ronny Chieng, Rob Corddry, Danny DeVito, David Duchovny, Hannah Einbinder, Jay Ellis, Josh Gad, Kimiko Glenn, Brandon Kyle Goodman, Jake Johnson, Richard Kind, Johnny Knoxville, Lauren Lapkus, Jenifer Lewis, Poppy Liu, Joe Lo Truglio, Jason Mantzoukas, Ken Marino, Jack McBrayer, Zahn McClarnon, Charles Melton, Kumail Nanjiani, Brock O’Hurn, Andrew Rannells, Emily Ratajkowski, Sam Richardson, Nick Robinson, Seth Rogen, Sarah Silverman, Timothy Simons, J.B. Smoove, David Wain, Taika Waititi, Reggie Watts, and Tyler James Williams.

Could this end up being Hulu’s own I Think You Should Leave? Maybe it will and we certainly hope so (and the teaser is promising). Go see for yourself here, then look towards the premiere on Mar. 6th on Hulu with episodes being release throughout that very week.

There is so much happening with comedians that are trans that has nothing to do with Dave Chappelle. This week’s guest, the splendid Jeena Bloom, is proof positive that there is much to be celebrated and enjoyed with the comedic stylings of many trans men and women just like comedians of any other background. That includes stand-up, TV, movies, podcasts, etc. as well as thorough discussion of local neighborhoods in LA and NYC (neighborhood maps per the podcast conversation linked below). Also, “hot” takes on Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part 2, Tarantino thinking about doing a comedy, and, oh yeah, that Chappelle mess over at Netflix (NOTE: this podcast was recorded on 10/19/21, the day before the #NetflixWalkout).

For reference, as promised, here are neighborhood maps of LA (Frogtown is denoted as Elysian Valley for some reason) and NYC

Mel Brooks Will Finally Get to Make History of the World Part 2 (as a Series on Hulu)

October 18, 2021
News
history of the world pt 1, history of the world pt 2, hulu, ike barinholtz, mel brooks, nick kroll, wanda sykes

Almost more unbelievable than 1981 being 40 years ago, Mel Brooks is going to finally have the follow up to his History Part of the World Part 1 and it’s going to be a series on Hulu.

Says Mel Brooks, “I can’t wait to once more tell the real truth about all the phony baloney stories the world has been conned into believing are History!” We wonder how he’ll cover the rise of disinformation in the 2010s.

We’ll be throughly curious to see what Brooks’ sense of humor, which is so thankfully intact at his advanced age of 95, will be like in 2022. The first movie got mixed reviews, but, perhaps, something as ponderous as the history of the world, even in parody form, will be better presented as a series. Also, the mix of creatives involved should prove for a fascinating blend of generations of comedy. Including on the producing/writing team are such comedy luminaries as Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz to name a few and, with that in mind, we wonder if the series can go even bluer than the original movie.

We’ll just have to wait until later in 2022 as production starts in spring next year.

In case you are unfamiliar with Brooks’ History of the World Part 1, here’s the trailer.

Mel Brooks Is Heading Up a Live Musical Adaptation of ‘Young Frankenstein’ at ABC

To be honest, we were kind of wary of this headline because network television’s new obsession over live televised stage musicals isn’t always a sure bet, in our opinion, and, also, we didn’t get a hint of Mel’s involvement in it.

Now that we know Mel Brooks is thoroughly involved with the process of bringing his comedy classic Young Frankenstein up to be a live musical, we’re actually excited to see how crazy and meta Brooks will get and what hijinks he’ll try to pull off, especially because it’s live.

Details for this live Young Frankenstein musical telecast or any other details for that matter have yet to be announced (but we’ll let you know once we find out).

For decades, a BBC interviewer by the name of Alan Yentob has been interviewing/playing along with the masterful shenanigans of the brilliant, truly legendary Mel Brooks.

This mockumentary comedy special spans generations all the way up to present day Mel Brooks who still seems just as sharp as ever (no matter what your age is when taking in his work).

We can’t wait to see what Brooks and Yentob had hidden up their collective sleeves for all these years (must be pretty big sleeves, right?)  with Mel Brooks: Unwrapped coming to HBO next Friday, Dec. 13th.

Enjoy a delicious taste of what’s to come with this trailer.

“Blazing Samurai”, an Animated Homage to “Blazing Saddles” with Talking Animals, Set For 2017 Summer Release

Mel Brooks is not only on board for this movie, but he also is part of the voice cast.

August 2017 is the target date for Blazing Samurai, a movie sounds as unbelievable as Blazing Saddles, its source of inspiration, did when it was first being conceived.

Lion King director Rob Minkoff has brought on the likes of Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, George Takei, Gabriel Iglesias, and more as well as the aforementioned Brooks for a movie that seemingly takes the plot of Blazing Saddles, makes all the characters anthropomorphic animals, and sets it in feudal Japan. Like we said, it sounds pretty out there, but so was the meta, absurd comedy of Brooks all those decades ago.

Brooks being heavily involved is definitely more reassuring that this might be a highlight of 2017 summer fare.

This awards ceremony will get to air on TBS so we can only hope that there’s an elaborate bit being planned between Brooks and Martin.

For the almost mythologically large career that Steve Martin has had, The American Film Institute is honoring him with a Life Achievement Award. Previous AFI Life Achievement Award winner and fellow comedy legend Mel Brooks will be presenting Martin with the award, which we’ll all get to see on Jun. 13th on TBS.

As of now, Steve has ¾ of an EGOT as well as a Mark Twain Prize and will now be receiving this award. So, he has an EGOMTAFI?

This spring, FX will see a whole hour block of series focused on the lives of comedians.

The series premiere of The Comedians with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal playing two comedians bridging generational gaps in comedy and the premiere of the fifth season of Louie will kick off Apr. 9th at 10PM.

Note that, Louie will only have 8 episodes for this latest season, which seems like the season order of a freshman show. However, The Comedians will have Mel Brooks, Jimmy Kimmel, and Rob Reiner as guest stars in their first season (via Variety).

This still makes us curious how comedies are split between FX and FXx.
