Just a few weeks after new year, when hopefully the world is back on its way to some sort of normalcy, the 5th Annual Riot LA Comedy Festival will have its run and bring some much needed comedic relief to any and all in DTLA from Jan. 20th-22nd.

So far, the festival is looking to go bigger for 2017 as the venues will be bigger and they’re going to have a ferris wheel. That’s in addition to a screening of Blazing Saddles complete with Q&A with Mel Brooks, Ali Wong headlining, a brand new round of Dr. Katz Live!, and much more TBA soon.

Passes and tickets will go on sale at riotla.com this Friday, October 14th at 10AM PDT, but there’s a AMEX and Goldenvoice pre-sale on Thursday at 10AM PDT as well.

Watch The Most Insane Send Up of KCRW and NPR’s Elvis Mitchell Ever by DeMorge Brown

Esteemed film critic Elvis Mitchell has made a name for himself for years through his insights on cinema at NPR and KCRW. With that, his voice, look, and persona capture a certain spirit of dry, high brow film theory discussions.

For Channel 101, DeMorge Brown sent up Elvis Mitchell in a faux interview series called ScreenShots with Elvis Mitchell that is, well, what it’d be like you were watching an Elvis Mitchell interview while tripping on acid.

Even if you’re not familiar with Mitchell or Channel 101, you can agree that more one-on-one interviews should be as otherworldly as they are here.

Riot LA Comedy Festival Returning Jan. 2015

One of our favorite hometown festivals, every year, is the fantastic Riot LA Comedy Festival presented by KCRW and we’re happy to hear that it’s coming back for a third year come Jan. 2015.

Specifically, Jan. 16-18th, 2015, we’ll all have a ball here in LA with some of the best comedy around the city and the world. Without it, honestly, we wouldn’t want to imagine what we’d have to do just like The Sklar Brothers, Paul F. Tompkins, Fred Willard, Paula Poundstone, Sean Patton, Ron Funches and more would be doing things that probably rather not be doing instead of comedy (as shown in this Riot LA “Vignette”).

Normally We Hate Cruises, But The Atlantic Ocean Comedy & Music Festival Sounds Delightful

Setting sail at the tail end of Summer thanks to MaximumFun.org, Splitsider, and KCRW, The Atlantic Comedy & Music Festival will feature three nights of of Maria Bamford, John Hodgman, Marc Maron, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal & Kurt Braunohler, and much more. Yes, it’ll cost a pretty penny or many more than that, but definitely would be our cruise trip of choice if we we’re going to spend for being on a boat.

Hopefully, this will redefine the stereotypes of being a cruise ship comedian.

1) WTF! w/Marc Maron IS GOING TO BE ON THE TERRESTRIAL AIRWAVES!!! KCRW 89.9FM THIS SUNDAY 11AM!!! (Yes, we are indeed shouting this bit of news)

2) On the small screen tonight, there’s of course Louie on FX 10:30PM, but there’s also, of course, the Green Room w/Paul Provenza on Showtime 11PM, and Nate Bargatze on Conan on TBS 11PM, but let’s not forget the PREMIERE of NTSF:SD:SUV on Adult Swim 12:15AM (which is technically tomorrow morning, but who really buys into that)

3) Ron Babcock is awesome at making people laugh.  When it comes to birdhouses… well, it got him into this reality competition, which you should really vote for him (just give the video a thumbs up)

4) The Ballad of Louis C.K. and Sarah Palin-an excerpt from the August issue of GQ

5) Yesterday’s best hashtag game on Twitter was possible names for a Chris Brown inspired romantic comedy: #chrisbrownromcom

“@dubouchet-Shut The Fuck Up Bitch! Met Sally”-Andrés Du Bouchet
“@kevingchristy-Don’t Say Anything”-Kevin Christy
“@shanenickerson-He’s Just Not That Into Punching You. Just Kidding, He Is.”-Shane Nickerson

9) People believe in comedy-even if the show’s double booked and you have to get chairs from business in the immediate area and do it on the roof, people believe in it and here’s photographic proof from Ahm Mingus when weekly live comedy show Holy Fuck had to do exactly that..

10) The Compatish and Chubby Bunny-Grown men, stuffing marshmallows in their mouth, and trying to say Chubby Bunny (just in case you were wondering…)
