Pick of the Day: MAKE THAT SANDWICH (in LA) 3/18

January 10, 2023
News
lindsay ames, los angeles comedy, make that sandwich, ucb franklin

True multi-hyphenate Lindsay Ames has come up with so many amazing things over the years between comedy, filmmaking, cooking, and more. One of the best things she has ever created is a game show, Make That Sandwich, that brings a lot of her passions all into one scrumptious and oh so very funny concoction.

Contestants, usually comprising some of the best comedy and comedy adjacent folks around (Nicole Byer, Randall Park, Sam Reich, Adam Conover, Milana Vayntraub, Reggie Watts, Moby, Tiny Chef, Carl Tart) take turns either adding an ingredient to a sandwich (that will actually be made for consumption) or calling for the sandwich to be created by yelling, “MAKE. THAT. SANDWICH.” The result is a one of a kind, unique sandwich and a hell of a fun evening.

So, the latest edition of MAKE THAT SANDWICH is set for Sat. Mar. 18th at 10PM at UCB Franklin. Get tickets now at $15 a pop here before it sells out (space in UCB Franklin is very limited)

Pick of the Day: It’s Make That Sandwich!!! 4/20 (on Clubhouse) 7/6

Make That Sandwich, the ingenious sandwich-building game show created by Lindsay Ames, was due for a tour before lockdown and, well… you know what happened after that.

That said, with that advent of the live drop-in audio app Clubhouse, Ames, every now and again, does a virtual version of Make That Sandwich that’s still so damn fun and absolutely worth going into Clubhouse for (or downloading it and signing up and all that jazz if you haven’t done so already).

For the uninitiated, contestants take turns adding ingredients to a sandwich until someone says MAKE! THAT! SANDWICH!, at which point, Lindsay would actually make that sandwich in real time. As it’s a virtual Clubhouse live-stream, she’ll make the sandwich still, but it’ll be a later time TBD (and then beautifully captured on IG @makethatsandwich).

So, the very next Make That Sandwich will be streaming this Tues. Jul. 6th at 4:20PM PT/7:20PM ET as a special 4/20 edition of the show. If you’re not on Clubhouse and would like to be, we do have a limited number of invites we might be able to help you out with. DM us @thecomedybureau or e-mail us at thecomedybureau@gmail.com.

Pick of the Day: The Frogtown Show 6/12

Way before the pandemic was even a shadow of a worry of a thought, there was a magical outdoor venue in LA, Spoke Bicycle Cafe, that had a magical comedy show, The Frogtown Show.

It was a bi-weekly stand-up show that happened in the open spaces within this part-cafe-part-bar-part-bicycle-repair-shop-part-playground that is flanked by the more scenic parts of the LA River. They always got fantastic line-ups and this Jun. 12th edition is no different. The amazing trio of Jared Goldstein, Emily Maya Mills, and Erin Lennox will lead off Chris Garcia, Naomi Ekperigin, Danielle Perez, Daniel Webb, and Lindsay Ames.

In case you forgot, that’s some of LA comedy’s best and brightest.

Tickets are going for $10 per table (tables are for 2) and upwards with a 2 drink min. Go get them here before they sell out fast.

Pick of the Day: Not National Public Radio (Creator First Clubhouse Pilot) 5/20

News
clubhouse, creators first, henry kaiser, lindsay ames, nnpr, npr parody

To be sure, there are plenty of experimental, niche, but oh so marvelous things on Clubhouse these days. Who knows what the addition of Android users will bring in the coming weeks?

One of the stand out weird and wonderful things is Not National Public Radio, a deft parody on the institution that is, of course, National Public Radio. Created by Henry Kaiser and Lindsay Ames, this alternate dimension version of NPR takes pitches for shows that would be the most ridiculous things on the station, but still very much in line with their brand and in all sorts of time slots.

Kaiser and Ames were selected as finalists for Clubhouse’s Creators First Pilot Season program and will be a doing special presentation of NNPR on Thurs. May 20th at 8PM PT/11PM ET. Please follow Henry and Lindsay and the NNPR club on the Clubhouse app to get notifications for this event. Tune in and enjoy and, hopefully, they’ll get a series order (or whatever Clubhouse wants to call it).

Pick of the Day: Sandwich Lovers Unite with Lindsay Ames (Saturdays on Clubhouse)

March 5, 2021
News
clubhouse, lindsay ames, sandwiches

Lindsay Ames wears so many hats and does so quite exquisitely. Comedy, storytelling, content creation, food, and specifically, making sandwiches.

With the advent of the latest social media platform/drop-in audio app, Clubhouse, Ames has combined lots of her hats in this weekly “room” where she celebrates one of mankind’s greatest innovations, the sandwich. Every Saturday night, Lindsay moderates a lovely room called Sandwich Lovers Unite that highlights people’s favorite sandwiches as well as figure out the perfect sandwich for very specific, often odd situations that may or may not be traditionally accompanied by a sandwich.

The passion for sandwiches ignites wonderful mutual appreciation, some heated controversy (for and against mayo specifically), and overall a great, hilarious evening for the sandwich community at large.

Follow Lindsay Ames on Clubhouse and hop in at 7PM PT/10PM ET every Saturday for Sandwich Lovers Unite.

Pick of the Day: My Diary 2/25

February 24, 2021
News
billie lee, diary, georgia hardstark, henry zebrowski, just blaze, leah lamarr, lindsay ames, storytelling

My Diary was one of the very best storytelling shows in LA. It was so expansive in all the sorts of vulnerability that it covered with all the folks who were up for sharing their diaries, journals, poetry, etc. etc. Creator Lindsay Ames made sure to have a wide range of great folks, in and out of comedy, making for a cathartic, hysterical, deeply personal night. In short, it was always unforgettable.

So, we’re pretty jazzed that Lindsay is doing a special edition of My Diary on the Clubhouse app along with co-host Leah Lamarr that will feature the likes of Georgia Hardstark of My Favorite Murder, Henry Zebrowski of Last Podcast on the Left, Billie Lee of She’s So Vegan, and comedian Tehran.

This special Clubhouse edition of My Diary will stream this Thurs. Feb. 25th at 7PM PT/10PM ET and is, as long you’re on Clubhouse, free to listen in. Follow @mydiaryshowla for more details/updates.

The endlessly creative and funny Lindsay Ames has been spending the better part of 2019 building the scrumptious web series Make That Sandwich where she makes some of the most delicious looking sandwiches that have ever been conceived.

To kick off 2020, Lindsay is not only doing some live sandwich making for a live edition of Make That Sandwich, but coupling it with live comedy by having comedians “help” her MAKE THAT SANDWICH. The line-up is pretty robust as you can see with Adam Conover from Adam Ruins Everything, Jade Catta-Preta, the new host of The Soup, the fantastic podcast Get Rick Nick, and wonderful comedian Jessimae Peluso.

Sounds pretty grand, no? For all of this, tickets are only $10 right now ($15 at door). Go snag some right now right here.

Tomorrow night, Lindsay Ames’ My Diary will gather some of the best people from every corner of comedy and has them share a part of a diary that they kept at some point in their life. This usually includes accompanying pictures that show just how “expressive” they were in writing in their most private correspondence.

John Early, who you probably just saw on The Tonight Show, the voice of one of the new Powerpuff Girls Natalie Palamides, and Baron Vaughn (both on late night and in Grace & Frankie) is just half of this fine line-up.

Tickets are $7 and you can (and should) get them here.

Watch The Most Insane Send Up of KCRW and NPR’s Elvis Mitchell Ever by DeMorge Brown

Esteemed film critic Elvis Mitchell has made a name for himself for years through his insights on cinema at NPR and KCRW. With that, his voice, look, and persona capture a certain spirit of dry, high brow film theory discussions.

For Channel 101, DeMorge Brown sent up Elvis Mitchell in a faux interview series called ScreenShots with Elvis Mitchell that is, well, what it’d be like you were watching an Elvis Mitchell interview while tripping on acid.

Even if you’re not familiar with Mitchell or Channel 101, you can agree that more one-on-one interviews should be as otherworldly as they are here.

Let Lindsay Ames show you what could happen when the world has gotten over Halloween the next morning and you exactly haven’t.
