Pick of the Day: Anna Seregina: A Tour of Anna (in NYC) 11/11

November 1, 2023
News
anna seregina, new york comedy, new york comedy festival, nycf, union hall

One of the marvels of Anna Seregina and her comedy is that it is simultaneously ethereal and lofty, but undeniably farcical at the same very moment in spacetime. Seregina freely floats in between meta layers of bits and even of herself, but the silliness she embodies keeps the fun accessible to those who might initially seek out comedy at its fringes.

It’s this notion that should lead you to Seregina performing her “tour” of herself, A Tour of Anna directed by the splendid Mitra Jouhari more specfically, at the New York Comedy Festival next Sat. Nov. 11th at 5PM at Union Hall with beloved NYC comedy raconteur Dave Hill opening.

“Tour” tickets are only $15.64 and you really ought to go get them here right now.

Pick of the Day: Anna Seregina: Tour of Anna (in NYC) 6/17

May 24, 2023
News
anna seregina, nyc comedy, solo show

While LA is treated to the comedic marvel that is one Anna Seregina, NYC hasn’t been so fortunate to see what a perfect blend of clowning and stand-up can be. So, it behooves us here at TCB to notify all of you in and around the five boroughs when Anna is in town, especially if she’s doing a very special solo evening at one of NYC’s hippest, most underground (even though it’s upstairs) venues.

Yep, Anna Seregina is coming to NYC next month to put on a Tour of Anna at Life World in Brooklyn on Sat. Jun. 17 at 8:30PM. Tickets are only $10 and the address is sent to you upon purchase of tickets (since this show is such the place to be that Saturday night). Go get your tickets right now right here.

Pick of the Day: Loose [Returns Again] (in LA) 5/8

May 2, 2023
News
alison stevenson, anna seregina, loose, los angeles comedy, megan koester, stand up comedy

The meeting of the comedic minds of Megan Koester, Alison Stevenson, and Anna Seregina as Loose was a favorite Monday night staple of ours. The contrast of Koester and Stevenson’s spicy, sarcastic banter and Seregina’s unfiltered silliness was a true panacea to Mondays being Mondays. Unfortunately, the desire to be a chic sports bar in Echo Park was too much for Little Joy, their original home, was too much for them to resist and, consequently, Loose @ Little Joy had come to an end.

Thankfully, after months of wandering around the scene and occasionally popping up together at a fun underground show, Megan, Alison, and Anna are returning to their Monday night comedy duty to be Loose at their new home of Eagle Rock’s Western Station Beer & Wine (just a couple blocks West of Eagle Rock Blvd. x Colorado Blvd.). They’re starting it back up on Mondays at 8PM next week on 5/8. Per usual, admission is free, but donations are happily accepted.

The first line-up is unsurprisingly a doozy with Jon Daly, Rachel Kaly, Jordan Temple, Clare O’Kane, and Tamara Shevon. Keep up with all things Loose @loosecomedyla on IG.

Pick of the Day: Anna Seregina: WORK IN PROG II (in LA) Various Dates in Nov.

October 28, 2022
News
anna seregina, elysian, los angeles comedy, solo show

For all the years that we’ve seen Anna Seregina, we’ve seen as true an artist as you can be as a comedian. Seregina has pushed, evolved, experimented, and grown all while being so damn funny as a stand-up, clown, actor, writer, and more. Whether it’s doing an impression of her doing stand-up or getting into post-modern comedic hijinks with her key comedic accomplice Kyle Mizono, we’re always thrilled to see what Seregina has up her sleeve.

So, Anna doing a work-in-progress show is something that absolutely not be missed. Lucky for Angelenos, Anna is mounting WORK IN PROG II at The Elysian next month. There will be three free rehearsals on 11/5, 11/8, 11/12, all at 6PM, leading to a final show on Tues. Nov. 15th at 7:30PM (tickets are $16 for that one).

Don’t miss one of the LA comedy scene’s truly brilliant voices and see her in this latest run. Get all details here.

Please Enjoy Sara June’s Short “Bathroom Time”

April 7, 2022
News
anna seregina, bri pruett, christine medrano, sara june, short film, sketch comedy, steph tolev

It’s unfortunate that the scarcity mentality that so many of us live under extend to every bit of our lives. We center our lives on how much money or power or water we have left. We especially anxiously ration time to go the bathroom while at work. That’s a very powerful stressor in an economy of scarcity.

Thus, comedian/filmmaker Sara June made a hilariously morbid short film, Bathroom Time, that captures this ever present feeling many of us have with pitch perfect performances from Anna Seregina, Christine Medrano, Steph Tolev, and Bri Pruett.

It recently got to be a Vimeo Staff Pick and we fully co-sign their pick. Enjoy June’s timely short satire here.

Pick of the Day: Stand up and Clown (in LA) 2/7

News
ahamed weinberg, anna seregina, babs gray, christina catherine martinez, clown, elysian theater, ify nwadiwe, jessy morner ritt, kyle mizono, los angeles comedy, morgan jay, stand up comedy

It is our firm belief that when the different disciplines of comedy get cross-pollinated that some of the best, most boundary pushing comedy gets made. We also believe that Chad Damiani “live directing” (or ruthlessly roasting) people attempting clown is some of the funniest things we’ve ever seen.

Stand Up and Clown will combine all of that comedy goodness into a crucible of glorious failure and celebratory stupidity. Basically, Damiani, a veteran of the clowning and improv world will do his “live directing” of great stand-up comedians trying their hand at clown.

This first edition has a bunch of wondrous LA comedians that we can’t wait to see under Chad’s gun including:

  • Babs Gray
  • Morgan Jay
  • Christina Catherine Martinez
  • Kyle Mizono
  • Jessy Morner-Ritt
  • Ify Nwadiwe
  • Anna Seregina
  • Ahamed Weinberg

This inaugural Stand Up and Clown will happen at The Elysian on Mon. Feb. 7th at 9:30PM PT. Tickets are $12 right now and you really ought to get your tickets ASAP here.

Pick of the Day: Goopy [w/Anna Seregina & Kyle Mizono] (in LA) 12/17

December 14, 2021
News
anna seregina, elysian, goopy, kyle mizono

2019 was a time where we got to see the groundbreaking duo that is Anna Seregina and Kyle Mizono go up at stages all around LA and dazzle audiences doing whatever the hell they wanted. Usually, that would involve one of them interrupting (or coming out of nowhere to help) the other and do some of the most beautifully absurd comedy we’ve seen in our tenure at TCB.

Fast forward to now, on this side of the pandemic and Anna and Kyle are starting to pick back up from where they left off and do sublimely ridiculous bits on more and more shows. In fact, they got their very own date for their very own show, Goopy, the show where Anna and Kyle do the aforementioned whatever-the-hell-they-want, at the still bright and shiny new Elysian Theater on Fri. Dec. 17th at 8PM PT.

Tickets are $12 and it would be a really great holiday gift to yourself or anyone who needs a hearty laugh for the insane times we live in. Get them here.

Pick of the Day: Blam! Blam! Blam! (in LA) 12/14

Yet another touchstone LA comedy show returns on this side of the pandemic. Truly, we just had no idea who or what was going to survive when March 2020 came to pass. There was a point at which we, and so many others, legitimately thought that perhaps none of it would come back. We continue to thankful for the instances where some of our favorite things in comedy have survived and are making a big, big comeback.

One such thing is another one of the LA comedy scene’s longest running comedy shows, Blam! Blam! Blam!, the monthly institution at K-Town’s super cool R-Bar is making its first official show since lockdown happen right at the end of 2021. For years, we loved spending a late night on Tuesdays at 3331 W. 8th St. with Paul Danke at the helm and a beautiful mix, curated by DeMorge Brown, of stand-ups, characters, and the always mind-bending surprise from Davey Johnson.

This return of Blam! Blam! Blam! has all of its favorites including:

James Adomian
Lizzy Cooperman
James Fritz
Nana the Cat Lady
Kimberly Clark
Anna Seregina
Jamel Johnson
Daniel Webb
Tom Waits

Don’t miss out this Tues. Dec. 14th. Get there at 9PM PT if you want street parking to be slightly less difficult.

Pick of the Day: LOOSE (on Mondays) (in LA) Starting 10/11

September 30, 2021
News
alison stevenson, anna seregina, chris estrada, chris garcia, little joy, lizzy cooperman, los angeles comedy, megan koester
As live, in-person, indoors comedy has slowly come back in LA, one might notice that the amount of shows on Mondays is a little on the lighter side. The rest of the week has filled up pretty nicely with more and more options between not only stand-up, but all sorts of comedy. That dynamic is going to change in the coming weeks, thank goodness.
The weekly Monday comedy show at Little Joy in Echo Park is coming back! Once, it was called The Business and it was at 9PM, but now, it’ll be called LOOSE (and stay true to the title for having performers get really, really, truly, deeply loose with what they want to do) and start an hour earlier at 8PM PT. The stewards of LOOSE will be a crew of LA favorites including Chris Garcia, Megan Koester, Anna Seregina, and Alison Stevenson.
Their first “reboot” show on Mon. Oct. 11th will have even more LA favorites including Lizzy Cooperman and Chris Estrada as well as the newly transplanted POSTMEN (Anthony Oberbeck + Matt Barats + Carmen Christopher). Like in the old times, the show will be FREE (donations encouraged though to pay comedians).
Proof of vaccination will be required and it will be 21+. Get more info on the inaugural LOOSE here.

Pick of the Day: Sauce Comedy (in LA) 9/28

News
anna seregina, babs gray, brodie reed, erin lampart, james fritz, katrina davis, kyle mizono, la comedy, sauce, silverlake, stand up comedy, steve hernandez

Slowly, but surely (as much as the pandemic will allow), some of our favorite shows from the before times are coming back in LA.

Many Friday nights, you could have found us at the back of a private room at Desano Pizza in East Hollywood for the fantastic weekly comedy show known as Sauce. It was nice, neatly packed show that had some of the best stand-ups in LA and some out-of-left-field bits that were the perfect cherry on top for that slice of the evening.

Thankfully, it’s back with most of its original crew, Babs Gray, Erin Lampart, and Brodie Reed and they’ve relocated to both Silverlake Lounge and a Tuesday night. Their first show back since lockdown is set for Tues. Sept. 28th at 9PM PT and admission is free (proof of vaccination required). Per usual, they have a killer line-up  for this edition of Sauce with Katrina Davis, James Fritz, Kyle Mizono & Anna Seregina, and Steve Hernandez.

If you’re in or around Silverlake in LA (or even if you’re not), make this your Tuesday night for this coming week.

Pick of the Day: Helltrap Nightmare x Nolympics x LA Tenants Union: Food Not Rent Fundraiser 11/13

November 10, 2020
News
anna seregina, brad evans, Claywoman, comedy show, Drac and the Swamp Rats, everything is terrible, food not rent, fundraiser, helltrap nightmare, Ian Sweet, Jeremy Levick, john early, julio torres, kate berlant, la tenants union, Liz Franczak, lou wilson, Mister Wallace, Naomidrome, nick ciarelli, Rajat Suresh, Seth Bogart, True Anon's Bruce Belden

Famed horror comedy troupe Helltrap Nightmare did so much leading up to this most recent election in support of local candidates and organizations. Thankfully, their work is continuing on with intersecting affecting change on a local level and putting on extravaganzas of live-stream comedy fundraisers.

This Friday, Nov. 13th, Helltrap Nightmare is partnering with LA local orgs NOLYMPICS and LA Tenants Union to support the Food Not Rent fund for their latest show. Rental assistance for Angelenos has simply not been enough during this pandemic, especially with the end of it continuing to be uncertain and this is great way to give relief to many vulnerable folks at this time.

Slated to perform for this Food Not Rent live-stream are: John Early, Kate Berlant, Everything Is Terrible!, Julio Torres, True Anon’s Bruce Belden, Liz Franczak, Seth Bogart, Jeremy Levick, Rajat Suresh,  Nick Ciarelli, Brad Evans, Claywoman, Ian Sweet, Naomidrome, Lou Wilson, Thu Tran, Anna Seregina, Mister Wallace, Drac and the Swamp Rats, and more with hosts Meg Stalter and Sarah Squirm!

You can get access to the live-stream with a donation of anywhere from $5-$420 or more to the Food Not Rent fund. Do so here and make your Friday that much better.

We’re not exactly sure what’s going to happen here, but, then again, that is the magic and wonder that is the absurdist experimental comedy offered up humbly by Kyle Mizono and Anna Seregina.

There will be some holiday surprises, guests, but, apparently, you’ve got to stand at the door? Again, it’s a little vague as to what that will be, but we trust in Kyle and Anna to make the best immersive holiday comedy experience with whatever secret plans they have in store for us all.

The mystery of Come Home for the Holidays with Kyle and Anna but Please Stand at the Door at Lyric Hyperion next weekend will probably rival the mystery of opening up any holiday gift.

So, go get your tickets already.

As we’ve only gotten to be enthralled by the brilliant Anna Seregina 10-15 min. at a time for the past few years (we put her on our album from a couple of years ago), we can’t wait to see her very own solo show. Her combo of silliness, vulnerability, self-reflexivity, and command of the stage is something not to be missed.

That just so happens to be coming soon in the form of Woman Factory at the Lyric Hyperion next month and we love it being described as “an evening of romance and intrigue”.

So, please, without further adieu, get your tickets, $8 in advance and $10 at the door, here.

The Comedy Bureau, an LA comedy institution that has served the art form of comedy and Los Angeles since 2010, has handpicked “secret” recordings of their “comedians of interest” and release them to the public on an album through the venerable AST Records. More specifically, these 6 acts contained within this record are comedians that TCB believes have not gotten nearly enough of the attention they deserve. They are hysterical, original, innovative, and should be watched be very close by all. Knowing this, commit their names to memory: Anna Seregina, James Austin Johnson, Ahmed Bharoocha, Candice Thompson, The Walsh Brothers, and Eric Dadourian.

-Jake Kroeger, Director of The Comedy Bureau

You can (and really, really should) get Comedians of Interest Vol. 1. It comes out on Friday, October 20th, but is available for pre-order now here.
